Cronin on Bishop
This from Mick Cronin on this morning's Big East coaches conference call on why Rashad Bishop has been the most consistent of UC's freshmen and why he has managed to crack the starting lineup.
"The reason he has played so much for us is he doesn’t force things and doesn’t make mistakes. You don’t have to worry about him trying to make great plays, breaking your offense and taking crazy shots. He won’t try to do things he doesn’t feel he’s ready to do.
"Rashad has probably been our most consistent freshman. He has a great feel for the game. As his perimeter shooting improves as he becomes more aggressive and learns to use his body and athleticism more consistently he’s only going to get better. I’d like to see him improve his ballhandling where he attacks the basket more on the dribble. As he gets older, with his size and strength, he’s a guy that could really do some damage breaking people down off the dribble. But he has to improve his ballhandling to do that."

It's great to see Bishop making strides. Hopefully, the other freshmen will follow his lead and follow suit. They are this team's future. As they continue to improve, this team will be competitive in the Beast. I'd really like to see the frosh play more and more. I hope I'm wrong, but I really don't expect a lot from this team this year. Next year, I think they're going to be a real force to contend with. I just think it would be better to prepare more for this team's future. Any which way it goes, GO BEARCATS!!!!
Bishop came on campus with a rep as gamer and he is. in hschool he would take a game over and eventually he will do that here. one of the best examples of Cronins ability to spot talent and recruit same. even if the refs allow another player to flat push him away with both hands from a incoming pass from Sikes as was shown several times on ESPN as an indication of what was going on in the second half, he will win a lot of games for UC.
Agree to a degree. Lets work in the freshmen but lets also reward the seniors with a trip to the Big East tourney along with a possible NIT bid.
to 2:01, i think you have seen at least flashes from bishop, mitchell, mcclain, davis and even belton. there is obviously talent there, its just a matter of the kids developing and getting a better feel for the college game.
like mick said, bishop has been the most consistent freshman, but i think there is a lot to like about them all.
i will say i havent seen much of wilks and dont know what is going on with him...
Reward the seniors? For what?
They got a dream opportunity because they were the only ones left unsigned.
UC should reward success for winning, not for showing up to play. Are you a Soccer Mom?
I have no idea why Wilkes wasn't red shirted if he's never, ever going to play or contribute.
I thought that was a big reason why he came here.
Dunno. I know he's 17 and skinny, but geez it's not as if this team is going to the NCAA tourney.
No reason Gentry or Sykes can share some more minutes with them.
