I've never seen him so calm durring a whoopin.... its kind of wierd. somewhere Nancy is looking at Huggins balls she tacked up on her wall and is having a good laugh.
Hey 9:03, isn't it possible to still appreciate what Huggins did for UC basketball after Yates and Badger took it to the gutter? Almost as low as the BOT and Nancy took it. As a decades long non-Bandwagon fan, I love the Bearcats, but I still can root for Huggins when he is NOT playing vs. UC. GO BEARCATS!!!!
I hope this will shut up the Mick haters on this blog who were predicting a WVU blowout.
I still love Huggs and respect him for what he did for the program for so long but it really is time to move on. Huggs is happy in WVU and we have a very good coach in Mick.
ok you can still love huggins, but the negative comments made on this board about nancy z and huggins are getting old and annoying. I appreciate the things Huggs did, however his time was up. Everyone needs to move on..... Its been a few years. Mick is the future of the team. Go Cats
Still a Huggins fan when he's not playing UC. Me and a couple chums are going down to see him Feb 15. We probably won't see the gold suit against Seton Hall or ever again.
Mick is Big East Coach of the Year.
What a night for Warren, a near triple-double and his D on Ruoff.
AMEN 9:23! Huggins was great when he was here for UC BBall, but he is gone. REAL UC fans need to get over this if they haven't already! No other school or city has this big of an issue of getting over a coach.
Respect him and what he did yes...but still complain about Nancy and still want Huggs here...NO!
The hating, bashing and even mentioning of Nancy Z. will never end until one of two things happen: 1) Huggins is given his just due for returning UC BB to respectability and national prominence; or 2) Nancy Z. is no longer the president of the U. of C. Regardless of how you or I may personally feel about her, that's the way it's been and will remain.
P.S. It's great to see ewad has come out of hibernation!
I for one am greatful for Huggs bringing UC back. I am also one who had hoped that he would have taken the WVU job a few years back. I thought that he had taken UC as far as he could. I am not upset that he is not here and am glad that he is not now. However, what I am mad about and I believe many UC fans are mad is how the BOT and Nancy handled this. Not only did they have to pay $3M to buy Huggs out, they lost sponsors, attendance, and recruits. They KILLED the program. Many people will not return until )as Paul D said)when UC posts a recognition of Huggs or NZ is fired.
Nancy needs to tuck her bag away and take it on the chin.
9:39, it's not often that I completely agree with Paul D., but I think he really nailed it on this issue. And until this happens the wounds are never going to close for some fans, yes, for even some longtime and sincere fans.
Huggs looks like a tired coach to me. But I thought he looked that way during his last few years at UC, too. I think all that hard living has taken a toll, and maybe he doesn't know how to find true happiness. I hope being back at his alma mater gives it to him to some degree.
As far as what goes on on the court, though, I wouldn't trade Mick for too many other coaches right now. He's getting a ton out of a team that has a lot of limitations.
EVERYONE - QUIT WHINING ABOUT ALL THE CRAP FROM THE PAST!!!! HUGGS IS GONE!!! Now, for tonight...what a HUGE win. Mick and the coaching staff did a great job and the players did a great job of doing what they were asked. Think about it, just a week ago we were wanting to see this team get a killer instinct and make a 12 point lead 20 - they did that tonight (two games later). I am the biggest Huggins supporter there is, but I am a UC fan and I am glad that Mike Thomas brought in someone like Mick. LET'S BE POSITIVE and celebrate this great night for the team!!!
I do give Mick & Mike Thomas credit for bringing the program back from the abyss that NaZi & the BOT left it in. We would have been here sooner and would be better now if NaZi hadn't handled the situation so poorly. Fire a coach in August and don't name a successor with the responsibility to recruit for another season, how many recruiting years and team members did that brilliant strategy cost us? Those of us who love the program and its history will always hold NaZi accountable for her actions, poor management skills and three year demise of the program.
The victory by Mick and the Bearcats on the road tonight is great and the future does not better, but we still have a ways to go to be a consistent top ten program again.
You all realize that Cronin has now beaten Pitino, Boeheim and Huggins this season, and would have beaten Calhoun if not for lousy free-throw shooting.
Now that's amazing, especially with the talent on this Bearcats team.
Who cares about this banter about Nancy --- the real question is what about Bob's suit? That thing was hideous. just plain awful -- like his team tonight.
10:18, that's really the gist of it. I'm glad that UC BB is apparently on the upswing. However, the bombing of the program by the BOT and Nancy Z. is inexcusable and has caused inmeasurable problems with recruiting and alienated many a longtime fan. Hopefully, BB will continue to improve and be a force again on the national scene.
Force on the national scene?? Was UC a force on the national scene from about 03-05 except for bad headlines and disappointing endings in CUSA and tourney? Loved Huggs but he was losing it already at that time. Can anyone even seriously imagine him here now?? Mick-stock way up. Huggs(albeit HOF Huggs)-slowly turning into Bob Knight.
Agree that the whole departure was a mess but seems to me, Nancy Z didn't want a pucking drunk as a face of our university. We paid dearly to ship Huggie out but I'm betting 2 years from now, it'll look like a great move.
I loved every second of that game, great team defense tonight combined with WVU being ice cold made for great entertainment. I was impressed with Belton's 1 on 1 defense on the switch, he has nice footwork and has a real edge about himself on the boards.
Just food for thought, give me 5 points over the last week and we are 7-2 in the Big East with Marquette here Saturday who we should compete with, and then 3 winnable games in a row (No guarantees). Wow. I hate to be the what if guy... but WHAT IF?
Congrats to UC and especially Mick and his dedicated players. As a grad that could not stand Huggins, I was disenchanted with UC, this game intrigued me and I found myself watching this game. Great job Mick. Bring UC back to National prominence along with the style that represents what UC is!
Despite the conventional wisdom you hear from all your internet buddies, the facts are there were two sides that pushed us into that "death penalty" timing of Bob's departure.
Huggs and his agent played a game of chicken with Zimpher and the BOT, accepting no contract extension in May, but then coming back in the middle of summer -- the worst possible time to try and make a move, and they knew it -- and trying for a power play. She had little choice at that point, and cut bait. They should have offered him a poison pill contract extension -- roll over the contract, but it would automatically be voided when the next serious criminal offense or academic casualty took place. Huggs would have had to been the party calling the media for the going-away party at that point, because he would have known he couldn't deliver that kind of program.
Why can't many of you just enjoy this result and how much progress this team has made and the intriguing finish ahead instead of constantly-constantly-constantly harping on the past?
Why?
You simply can't enjoy the present because you're so consumed with regurgitating something from 3-4-5 years ago that is never going to be changed. It's done. It's over with.
Well said, RickNMD. Get over the past, losers. Nancy Zimpher has our UNIVERSITY - remember, there are academics here - more highly respected than ever. She's a fantastic president. And, from the looks of things, she made a great hire in Thomas, who followed with Kelly and Mick. UC is enjoying unprecedented football success, a young and rapidly improving basketball program, and we're doing it without athletes getting in trouble. Woohoo!!!
Good game plan to counter WVU's offense and solid ball movement and execution on offense, though they still probably should have scored more points. The positioning for rebounds was excellent.
Hopefully they can beat Marquette at home on Saturday after winning this emotional game.
Am I the only one who noticed when they showed Sippin' Mick and Huggins at the beginning of the game that Huggins looked VERY tense and scared. I felt more confident immediately because he doesn't seem to look like that often.
What makes you think that you should tell the rest of us what to do and think? Most of us who feel strongly about the BB destruction feel that way because we love the university and UC BB and football. Maybe, it is difficult for us to get over it when the BOT and Nancy Z. did what they did with impunity.
As for Anon 11:43, you are well qualified to determine who is a loser.
Cronin is slowly, but surely convincing me that he can really coach at this level. I have to admit that I was one who had some serious doubts earlier this year. Hopefully, in a year or two, we'll all be super glad that he's the coach here. GO BEARCATS!!!!
Could it be that Huggins made his team practice full speed for three hours per day since the GT loss? And they couldn't make more than 20% FGA because they were tired? Just guessing.
No excuses for WVU - UC beat them and had a lot to do with it.
UC is bigger, faster, and certainly stronger.
How do you think UC felt coming into the game having suffered 2 straight very close losses that came down to the last shot, and then having to deal with the hype about how Huggins was going to "Stick it" to UC?
Hey 6:52, shrinks make $150 an hour helping people get over their past. My advice is free: Move on.
If you can't tell the difference between advice and telling you what to do, that'll cost you $40 an hour at the Sylvan Learning Center, however.
Life is full of screw-yous. Your dog is stolen, your wife cheats, your boss is a jerk, your sports team doesn't win every game of every year.
You adjust, you move on. The dog has a new home, the wife re-marries, you get fired, and your sports teams really ain't all that important in the big picture. Wallowing and complaining and harping doesn't change anything.
It just makes you pathetic. Enjoy the present. Look forward to the future. Worry about things you can control.
9:29Am. Just the opposite. Huggs said he had a couple of kids dinged and sick and he eased up on them in practice. Said it was his fault, he should have worked them harder.
That's the problem he has right now. Those are Belien's players and they lack the toughness Bob likes to have. He has some good players, but they are soft and it showed last night.
11:05...i'm a huggs fan but your comment is weak. While at UC his first year, huggs inherited a group that played tough. He can/should be able to do the same at UWV.
Terrific win. Great to see players and team developing. Good thing WVU couldn't make a shot last night because UC continues to do things that will get them killed. Fouling three point shooter on multiple occasions, some really bad turnovers, sloppy possessions, and missing bunnies near the goal. Some players have to learn to go to the ball if the ball handler is getting in trouble.
12:32, you said it yourself. This team and the players are developing. Would any of us have thought they would win last night by 23? At the beginning of the season, they might have lost by 43. What a fantastic improvement in a matter of 4 to 6 weeks. The Cats are clawing their way back! Hey, anybody else notice the recent absence of the x and osu trolls?
I wonder whatever happened to the guys on the team earlier in the year that Cronin said were not BE material?Did UC pick up some free agents that I didn't hear about? And before any more of you bash Huggins about getting out-coached,you should be lauding him for having WVU AT 15-6.All their losses until last night were gut twisters against some top teams. He has three good players and two of them were terrible last night.Start watching some ball before making stupid comments. You people bitch and moan about Adam H.How about Smalligan as your starting center? "anonforever"
2:14, get back to your burning couch in Morgantown and stay away from this board if you are just going to make excuses for huggins.
All we heard on espn2 last night was 'poor Bob' (and, about that suit...) But Mick Cronin got little credit for all he's done. He came into a much MUCH worse situation at UC than huggins did at WVU. Can you possibly compare a guy who coaches with decent vets and recruits, versus a guy who had almost a pick-up-game-type group from NO RECRUITING for two years, yet still managed to get them playing well in a light-speed sort of way this year? No you cannot. Congrats to him and to those terrific Bearcats who hung in there and are making us proud - win OR lose, btw.

WVU has more airballs than they do field goals.
Bob will not be fun to be with at practice tomorrow.
I think we're gonna win...
Great game from Sikes.
I've never seen him so calm durring a whoopin.... its kind of wierd.
somewhere Nancy is looking at Huggins balls she tacked up on her wall and is having a good laugh.
Maybe this will shut up the Huggins Lovers on this board. Mick Forever....Huggins never...
Warren had a heck of a game. 9 rebounds for the little guy. Near tripple double, low turnovers, great defense and picked up the loose balls.
Wait a minute. I love Huggins. But I'm a UC guy. There is no reason you can't be both.
If any of you say you saw this result coming you are a filthy liar. And you know it! :)
Unreal.

I thought the 15pt spread was crap, but I sure didn't expect this.

Yeah, that's it. Give Nancy credit. She's great. If only she'd been here sooner, we might still have Yates!

10:32...recruiting is just fine. 6 very good frosh and at least 2 very talented kids coming next year. Mick can coach. Mick can recruit.
Haven't felt this satisfied with a Bearcat win in a long time.
Agree that the whole departure was a mess but seems to me, Nancy Z didn't want a pucking drunk as a face of our university. We paid dearly to ship Huggie out but I'm betting 2 years from now, it'll look like a great move.

Sweet.
Proud to be a Bearcat

Come back when you master phonetics.
12:01, thanks so much. I suppose if you cannot master something yourself, it's almost always best to pass it on!
That's the best you got? Am-not, am-too? If-I-am-you-are-too?
Must be nice to be a teenager again. But then, you live perpetually in the past. What a shock.
Anon 12:06, why do you want to engage in brain battles with these clowns? Haven't you been trained not to engage in mental combat with unarmed people?
