Signing day
For years, I've heard UC football coaches tell reporters how talented their recruiting classes are only to have them consistently ranked in the 90s, but this year it appears the Bearcats have really made some progress. I just talked to Jeremy Crabtree from Rivals.com and although UC's class is currently ranked No. 75, he believes it should be higher.
"I really like the Cincinnati class," Crabtree said. "For some reason which I don’t understand, I think their class shold be ranked much higher than it is inn our rankings. They went out and did a nice job fillling some needs with some quality kids. It won't crack the Top 50 but this class was a step forward."
The UC class can get closer to the Top 50 if things pan out today. Kelly is still waiting for a decision from RB Isaiah Pead and CB Ed Imeokparia. DE Patrick Omameh, who originally committed to UC, now says he's going to Michigan, but according to Crabtree, that decision might not yet be final.
Having said all that, you have to question what these rankings mean anyway. Kelly told me earlier this week that when he was at Central Michigan, he recruited several players who were 3-star recruits until they signed with CMU. Then they were downgraded to 2-star recruits.
UC has scheduled a 3 p.m. news conference to announce its class.

Keep the updates coming Bill! When is the last time UC recruiting has been news? The excitement is here. I can't wait to find out about Pead and Imeokparia. Rivals is covering Pead's decision at 4:00.
So far so good. Absolutely right about rating the recruiting classes. Nothing but somebodies guess.
did i just read a post from CSA that implies he is pleased with something UC is accomplishing in the present??!!??
I am very pleased with the football program and Brian Kelly. I give credit were credit is due.
I love the coverage on www.gobearcats.com too. UC is doing all it can to make today seem like a special day for UC so the local talent still in high school can feel like they're attending a big time school. Keep the updates coming Bill.
um, scout has uc class ranked 49th.
anyway, uc showed that you dont need top 25 classes to be in the top 25. football is harder to guage than basketball at predicting success. very few impact players as freshman then you just have to see how the rest develop.
what did rivals have byrd as? a one star. mickens was a two star. mickens will be a nfl first day pick next year barring injury.
id sure take marcus barnett over some of the four star kids who you will never hear from.
i dont get the st. x kids and louisville. this aint petrino's louisville and there wont be a brohm throwing the ball.
i dont get why some kids here dont consider uc more. i mean i understand picking OSU or Michigan or ND or USC. But louisville, or minnesota or some schools like that, i will never understand.
Many times it is just a matter of the kids wanting to get away on their own.
2:27- I think that some local kids feel that the college experience is leaving home. Going somewhere new. I think UC will start having more success with local talent, but their will always be those who will leave their home town regardless of how well UC does.
The problem is that UC has a class made up of 2 and 3 star players so it is really difficult to differentiate between their class and the others in the neighborhood.
Can't understand why UC doesn't recruit the D.C. area. There's a ton of talent here and Illinois, Boston College and Virginia Tech have made their programs on this area.
I also totally agree about kids wanting to get away from home to go to college. Should never hold it against a kid who wants to experience college life on his own terms.
That is, unless mom and dad are paying for it!
CSA, At least we know that some of them are actually paying attention now. It's a start. - Your Buddy
Do we have any information on Pead or Imeokparia yet?
no word on ed yet. i understand that pead is going to announce at 4 at a press conference.
Imeokparia is headed to FSU.
The ones that change their minds, especially the ones who take back a verbal, we probably don't want anyway. They likely would never become a true CAT at heart. GO BEARCATS!!
Rumor from Columbus is that Pead signed with the Bearcats. I'll be more comfortable when I hear it officially from UC.
looks like pead to UC - all sites indicate that.
If Pead's to the CATS, that's another big boost. Let's keep hoping to something's official!
Sounds like Kelly is doing a nice job recruiting along with his great coaching.
On another note: Bill, can you ask Mick whether he's concerned about the team's offense for next year and whether fans concerned about his ability to find offense have valid concerns?
Would appreicate if you could ask him that and let us know what he says about the team's offense going forward. Thanks.
I'm curious why do you always site the Rivals ranking which has them around 75th. When the Scout rankings have them floating between 48-52?
because rivals is a much more credible source than scout.
That is simply not true. Rivals totaly bases their rankings on how many subscriptions each school has.
UC's Rivals site has practicaly no subscribers so they get no bounce and actualy get penalized because of that in the so called rankings.
