What's wrong with Vaughn?
John Williamson's 22 points vs. Rutgers and 25 vs. St. John's couldn't have come at a better timem because Deonta Vaughn has clearly hit a wall. Mick Cronin thinks Vaughn is just plain tired from shouldering so much of UC's scoring burden this year.
“I think he’s tired,” Cronin said. “We don’t play for a week. I’m going to make sure I get him more rest than the other guys. I think he’s definitely worn down a little bit. I can tell in practice. When Jamual was hurt, he was logging a lot of minutes back in November in those five or six games. It’s carried over to him shouldering the scoring burden for this team. It’s been a long year.”
Williamson's double-double was his third of the season and the eighth of his career.

Sounds like an excuse from Mick.
I think it's more a combo of him performing poorly and Mick's sudden shift in offensively philosophy, which has seemed to work just as poorly if not worse than the previous strategy.
Nice run-on.
10:21...
Of course. No other great players EVER have a couple of off nights...
lol
The guy is the focus of the defense every night, and he isnt someone that is really capable of creating much off the dribble.
It will lead to some inconsistency, but it certainly isnt something to worry about.
Whatever offensive philosophy isnt working has the Bearcats 2-0 in their last 2 games since the switch to focusing on Williamson more. The fact is this team needs more of an inside presence. Its nice to see him step up.
The Big O must have been the most worn out guy in the universe during his time at UC.
So, no wonder the good die young.
RIP, Pistol Pete.
Wish they'd had the 3 and you at the same time.
Vaughn will be fine. He had two off nights. Who wouldn't if the opposing defense keys on you every time you step on the court. If more people keep stepping up like Williamson, then it will open up more opportunities for Vaughn.
GO CATS!!!!!
the last 2 games the opposition seems to have the attitude that they must stop Vaughn, no matter what, even if it costs them the game and it has.
Mick is pushing Williamson to do more - seems like it's working. And pretty sure Vaughn's good with it - he's a teamer.
Go UC!
hey, everyone, did you all turn your TVs off during overtime the other night???
pretty sure that Vaughn only had 1 off night. he was the one that won the game for the cats in OT. if 13 points in a 5 minute overtime period is an off night i'll take it
Deonta played within himself and the game plan last night. Only took 7 shots but had 4 assits, 4 rebounds and showed a leadership presence. He is a team player.
Vaughn is a team player and will do what it takes to win. If there is a hot player, he will keep getting that player the ball. I am glad to see a couple other people step up.
But did any body notice that Adam H could not hold onto anything last night. Whenever the ball bounced into him, he would fumble it away. I thought that Adam was supposed to have great hands and footwork.
That second half run was great. The first half was down right ugly.
Win our home games and we end up in the top third of the BE. No body would have ever believed it before the season.
Something is wrong here. Our friend from Cheviot was not the first poster.
without vaughn, this team goes nowhere fast.
8:11 I'm shocked, too. There is plenty of room for pompousness and negativity. Must be celebrating another resume-building win for his Muskies.
8:10, where would this team be without Adam H.? Remember, last year when we heard, "if only Adam H. were eligible, we'd be a different team." Well, in a way, it's hard to argue with that. He's really not a BB player, just a tall guy in a uniform running up and down the floor. Anyway, the Cats are winning in site of that!
Correction: The Cats are winnng in spite of that!
8:31 - Good call captain obvious...Take away the superstar off of any roster and you have a different team. Of course last night demonstrated that if you have a second option who steps up when option 1 has a bad night you can still win. That's 2 in a row for Williamson...Maybe the light has clicked on?
If that is the case, then Vaughn needs to do better off season conditioning. For Vuaghn's sake, you don't want to use this excuse too much, NBA scouts don't want to hear about a player who can't make it through 20 games w/o getting tired.
Mick should just tell the truth, Vaughn had a couple off nights and will be just fine.
Mick doesn't make excuses. Who is the dumb a$$ that posted that? What are you complaining about anyway? They blew out another Big East powerhouse last night.
St. CSA
Once again he CATS prevail. Everyday is a great day to be a Bearcat
How does a 19 year old basketball player get 'tired' playing 1 or 2 games a week for 3 months? Vaughn is a good player, the only good player and the other teams know it. He is not Oscar. Sometimes he will be shut down. I doubt that he is is 'tired'. What is 'tired' are the excuses constantly blurted from Mick Cronin's mouth. What is he going to do when tourney starts and he has to play a couple of days in a row?
St. CSA
The guy is just tired. Lets not forget that he did end the rutgers game with 19 points. The did come in OT but its hardly an offnight
I don't know, could have something to do with the additional 18 hours of full-speed practices each week?
Wow! I wish I could be nineteen and "tired" again! Mick has had monikers placed on him before, but he is quickly earning the "All Excuses Mick" one. Next year it'll be, "I don't know Chuck, but there's just not Adam H. around to provide senior leadership."
Well, I sincerely hope you losers will be back with your lovely anti-UC anti-everything takes. It's very refreshing.
So, no one else practices those 18 hours? Brilliant comment!
That comment, troll, was in response to this question:
How does a 19 year old basketball player get 'tired' playing 1 or 2 games a week for 3 months?
He's NOT just playing 1 or 2 games per week, he also practices 3 hours a day. He also leads the team in minutes played.
Tell you what troll, when YOU practice full-on 18 hours a week for 3 months, win a couple of conference POW honors, lead a Big East team in minutes played, and scoring, you can come on back and tell us if you're tired or not.
OK OK. Vaughn is tired because Sippin Mick said so. If Sippin told you dog poop tastes good, you would eat it.
Why would Mick lie about something as simple as that? What could he possibly be trying cover up?
"Deonta's just not really any good and he's just been lucky up until this point."
If the coach, who sees him and works with him every day says he's tired, then he's tired.
What other reason would he possibly have for saying something like that?
I swear if Mick said the basketball is round, some of you idiots would say it's square.
Give Mick some credit for motivating Williamson. A good coach helps his players develop.
Don't worry about Vaughn, its a lot about the matchups and what the defense centers on.
It's a team game and we need to win, it doesn't matter it the #1 star is not the # 1 scorer every night.
"I swear if Mick said the basketball is round, some of you idiots would say it's square."
Absolutely correct & it will never change but I suspect it's really only 1 or 2 posters repeating themselves.
Huggie's gone & he ain't coming back & Nancy'll leave when she's good & ready.
100 dumb posts here aren't going to change any of that.
What do opposing team's fans thik of Sippin' Mick? Here is one perspective from a UK fan on a prominent message board discussing Bama possibly hiring a new coach:
"Mick Cronin is a whiner who blames his players everytime they lose. I really hope bama can do better."
Anyone else have any other perspectives to sip on?
Well, from my perspective, you're a sniveling attention whore whose act has grown tiresome.

Thanks for the personal attack. Anyone with any real counters that include other fans' perspectives on Mick?
Nancy is a problem and will remain so. She needs to leave so the university can finally heal.
Regarding the "sippin" post. The oral fixation represented by the unimaginative moniker might indicate the author suffers from a latent Oedipal complex. The constant negative attacks he posts represent an inferiority complex as well. Low self esteem concurrent with not being "good enough for mommy" ,while still wanting to suckle excuses "sippin" poster in my book. I forgive and understand you.
Regarding basketball my opinion of Cronin has not changed a bit all season, I think he has done a very solid job recruiting and at least above average job coaching. He gets a blended score of B with more homework yet to turn in.

Give me a break, you're the provocateur here. In a blog posting about the team's top player, you unsuccessfully attempt to hijack it by making derogatory reference to the team's head coach and seeking further negative input from fans of other teams. Again, you're a petty annoyance and it's grown tiresome.
I see no one has any real counters to the negative view other fans have of Mick. Maybe everyone thinking the team at .500 is in such a great place is a bit biased.
You have posted one comment from a blog...and that is supposed to be "the view" of fans of other teams?
Correction, that's one "alleged" comment. He didn't even bother posting a link to it.
vaughn is the key to the team - any moron can see that.
Here's a perspective from The Enquirer, Jan. 29:
"I think he's done a heck of a job", Huggins said. "To get it turned around the way he's got it turned around this year is harder than people realize."
You asked, I provided. Look it up.
Look up the comment. catspause.com - Mick Cronin - Google - and you will find it.
And opinions of coaches trying to pump each other up aren't what I'm talking about. I'm talking about fans.
I know the WVU boards had lots of negative comments about Mick before and after our game with them. And I just illustrated what at least one UK fan thinks.
Anyone have other perspectives from other areas?
Yes, it's quite important that we all know how fans of the competition view our coach.
I lie awake at night worrying about the opinions of the toothless racists in Morgantown.
Why should anyone care what opposing fans think about Mick Cronin?
This is a useless topic.
I'm done with this.
Gee, thanks for suggestion. Here's the post from catspause that prompted the fan's negative comment:
"Another name that might not be on anyones list yet, but will be in a year or two is Mick Cronin at Cincinnati. He is bringing in some big recruits and is a solid x and o guy."
6:32 said all that needs to be said about the 'sippin' poster - doubt that sippin'll understand it though.
