Darnell Burton

On a sad note, one of our news reporters learned today that former UC basketball player Darnell Burton was sentenced in Lexington on Jan. 11 to seven years in prison for first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, five years for trafficking in a controlled substance within 1,000 yards of a school, and 12 months for use/possession of drug paraphernalia. The sentences are to run concurrently for a total of five years in prison. Burton, who played at UC from 1993-1997, ranks 10th on UC's career scoring list with 1,227 points. He holds the school record for 3-pointers made in a career (306) and 3-pointers attempted (777).

This is very sad to hear - hopefully Darnell can learn from this and come out with a different perspective on life. As a kid I attended the Huggins camps all the time and Burton was always one of the players that would come to camp and hang out with us. On multiple occasions he would challenge kids in a 3-point shooting contest. Very sad, he is in my thoughts and prayers.

Very sad. Hope he can overcome this. As a kid growing up when he was playing, he is in my top 5 for all time favorite bearcat basketball players.

Darnell was a special player during his days at UC. Left me with a lot of great memories, and this coming from an X fan. I wish him the best and hope that uses this to truly change the direction in his life.

I will also keep him in my thoughts and prayers.

Hey, nothing fails like prayer anyway. What a waste of time.

4:29, I'm praying for you.

4:29 - How do you know prayer fails? Have you tried it.

It is sad. You don't have to approve of what he did but you can have compassion for him and yes certainly pray that he can turn around his life. People do change.

Some good football recruiting news as well. Some key locals offered letters by UC.

As for Darnell, yes, pray for the guy. You are also judged by your actions.

earcattom - actually I was referring to the person that said prayer is a waste of time.

Obviously I worded it wrong.

The farther you get from the orignal MASH episodes, the hokier they look when you see one now...

Andy Griffifth Show never gets hokey. Perhpas because it always was, but in a good, funny kind of way. Sure, the later colored episodes after Floyd had a stroke, and when Warren was the deputy and Andy hung out with Howard Sprague are crappy, but they were crappy to begin with. I still laugh at the ones like when Barney got his car, or when Gomer was looking for a job and others. Today, when I see a MASH episode, and see lame one liners from BJ in a pink shirt, and Hot Lips it's just that. Lame.

Some of the earlier ones with Frank Burns are still OK.

DB was one of the few recruits of BH that actually could shoot.

Anon 4:11 -

I sure hope you never make a mistake in life - look at someone like Josh Hamilton and tell me prayer can't change someone. I have never experienced it, but the life of a dealer and addict is something that is hard to let go. My wife deals with individuals who have major drug problems all the time - they will tell you that people who care and people that pray make a difference (especially when you are recovering). To come out and not have any compassion for someone says a lot about your character - like I said at the beginning, you better hope you never find yourself in a position where you need the help of others -based on your posting you're an absolute jerk.

Brings back memories of the Bob Huggins era.

Mick Cronin would never recruit a thug like this in the first place.

UC = UNLV East

...Or maybe not - UNLV has cleaned up its act, has a winning record, & has made the NCAA tourney last year.
