UC today received an oral commitment from Strongsville (Ohio) High School wide receiver D.J. Woods, who picked the Bearcats over Michigan.
“They said I could make an impact right away,” Woods said. “That’s what I want to do.”
Woods originally committed to Nebraska but changed his mind after head coach Bill Callahan was fired. He then committed to West Virginia, but reconsidered after Rich Rodriguez left for Michigan.
Rodriguez continued to recruit Woods for Michigan, which Woods visited this past weekend, but he chose UC instead.
“I wanted to be a Bearcat more than a Wolverine,” Woods said.
Woods, 6-feet, 166 pounds, is rated the 57th best wide receiver in the country by Rivals.com. He reportedly runs a 4.36 40.
He caught 38 passes last season for 748 yards and five touchdowns and averaged 19.7 yards per catch, even though he played in only five games.
His season was cut short when he had surgery to remove a blood clot near his spine. He said he has made a full recovery from the surgery.
Offensive tackle Khalil El-Amin has been reinstated to UC football team after felonious assault charges were dismissed last week.
“He went through the process,” UC coach Brian Kelly said. “I said we would not make a decision until everything had been adjudicated. His case was dismissed from the courts. Given all the information, I reinstated him Friday. He’s back in full standing with the program.”

D.J. Woods is a BIG TIME blue chip recruit that will help UC to its first BCS bowl game. Kelly has taken on the top of college football recruiting and has come away a winner.
Great day for the Bearcat program!
Congrats to the Cats
Great stuff, go Bearcats!
Wow! This is a huge commit for Coach Kelly and the crew!
Bill, I read on-line that charges against El-Amin were dismissed last Thursday, and Brian Kelly reinstated him on Friday. Why haven't we heard a thing from you?

Its in the post he just posted...

That's an easy question to answer for you. There was no reason to report it, because it didn't involve any alleged sensational athlete-involved group sex activity...
Thanks for asking,
Billy Boy
Isn't 166lbs a little light, even for a lightening quick WR? Can we honestly expect him to play significant minutes as a true Freshman?
UC will begin next season in the top 25 for the first time ever. The program is moving up.
Bill - nice piece today about Bishop.
Ah, a blue chip recruit!! YES
The El-Amin info is in the above posting that you just read....or didn't read. DUH. Thats right, I said "duh".
Ah, its nice to hear we were chosen over a school like UM. Read the posting above and you'll see the El-Amin info. DUH....that's right, I said "duh".
this is a huge day for UC football. maybe next year will be the year that a top prospect will turn down an offer from O$U to stay home and play for the Cats.
as for his size, i agree that he'll need to bulk up but he can still contribute in spot duty as a true freshman. look at what noel devine did at the RB spot this year.
Welcome DJ! Congrats UC!
I believe Marucs Barnett is only about 170 lbs. He worked out just fine for us last season.

It'd be great if he could return punts next year as a true freshman. Nakamura was steady, but it'd be nice to break a couple long returns now and again.
I'm glad DJ passed on MU for UC.
I hope we get some RBs signed late with some speed. I love the pass and spread but we need to run once and awhile too.
It should also be pointed out that DJ had an offer from O$U but didn't have interest in them. Apparently O$U wanted him as a CB. Even so, DJ turned down an offer from UM and O$U to come to UC.
Also, Scout has UC's class rated 3rd in the BE behind Pitt and RU (barely).
Hold on tight because... here come the Cats!
I would be aware of Pitt next year. Good thing we have them at home. They have had the top (or nearly the top) recruiting class in the BE for the past four years. Sooner or later, these guys are going to start winning. They did knock West Virginia out of the national game.
"It should also be pointed out that DJ had an offer from O$U but didn't have interest in them. Apparently O$U wanted him as a CB. Even so, DJ turned down an offer from UM and O$U to come to UC. "
Not true. OSU offered DJ right before he committed to Nebraska. Then he decommitted from Nebraska, asked the OSU coaches if the offer was still good and they told him no. The only time DJ turned down an offer from OSU was when he chose to commit to Nebraska. He never had the opportunity to choose UC over "O$U" or vice versa.
I think Woods made a great choice in going to UC. He put up some pretty decent numbers at Strongsville before he had the operation. He reminds me of a little of Gonzales. Great utility man. Maybe its time kids in Ohio started thinking about Cincy. Lord knows we have losing most of the great ones to all the other Big Ten teams. At least he's staying in state and not going to Michigan or WVU.
