The power of TV
During some casual viewing of college basketball over the weekend I noticed the national commentators talking occasionally about what UC has done so far in the Big East. That can only be good news for UC and Mick Cronin when it comes to recruiting. Cronin is a hard-working recruiter, but remember he's competing against national coaching luminaries like Rick Pitino, Jim Calhoun, Jim Boeheim and Bob Huggins, to name a few. Compared to coaches like that, the name 'Mick Cronin' does not yet make a big impact on recruits when it comes time to close the deal. That's why it helps UC every time the Bearcats - and Cronin - are mentioned on national TV.

Wins (especially high profile ones) make folks sit up and take notice. Cronin was a no name (except with those who know basketball).
Good stuff. Like a chia pet. watching the growth is half the fun!
bill I agree completely. I noticed the same thing this weekend.
Wins at UC will promote the Cronin name with recruits.
All top rated recruits want to win and start ASAP
Cronin already has some great recruits coming in, I think that says more than ESPN can ever say. As far as Huggins, good grief, I imagine players are just won over with the beer gut and poor attitude! Go Cats!
yeah i heard them talking about UC during the Florida, UK game this wkd. good deal!!
yeah i heard Jay Bilas talking about our win during the UK, Florida game on Sat. Night.
A. J. Price (point quard for UConn) was quoted by the AP that UConn could finish in the top four in the Big East (first round bye in the conference tournament). UConn is 3-3 in the conference and has to play the Bearcats twice. It seems to me that if the Bearcats can beat the Huskies on Wed and on March 8 in Hartford, then the Bearcats might finish in the top four. Maybe I'm dreaming.
Go Bearcats.
Since were on the topic of recruiting, what is the news on Scotty Hopson? Rivals.com has UC as his highest interest for school. Any word/ truth behind that?
Did anyone else see the cats listed as #37 in the AP top 25? They got 5 votes.
Being mentioned is good. Would be even better if they were allowed to be shown on national tv more than they are. But the time should come soon.
The general comments in the past couple years from the National TV folks have been sympathetic. But after the last couple upset wins at home, the comments are definitely more positive. It will be interesting to see how the team handles this tiny bit of success. Looking forward to the UCONN game.
In the coming SUCCESSFUL years, one of the things I think that will make Cronin even more of a hot commodity with recruits, is his past connection with UC and the likelihood that this is his dream job and final stop for the next 20 or more years. Continuity and knowing a coach will be there, are a huge factor for a recruit to consider. Look at what Devan Downey is going through.
Cronin would leave Huggins in the dust on the recruiting trail these days. He's made it clear he's a better game coach, offensive coach and role model.
