Rashad Bishop on The Foul
Bishop: "I was guarding him and I was holding my arm out and he broke for the ball and he kind of grabbed my arm to his body and made it look like I was holding him. The game plan was to just let him inbound it and slow him up but I looked over at the sideline and saw Coach telling me to go up, so I just went up with him. He did a veteran play. He just caught me."

Bad call.See the same thing in football with receivers holding DB's.But the game was lost before that.

Wow - Uconn guy made it look like Bishop fouled him.
No doubt committed a foul just a dumb freshman mistake. Not the only reason for the loss but the biggest reason.
Sorry excuse rookie. You mugged the guy after being caught out of position. When he started to slip away and break open to receive the inbounds pass you grabbed him. Plain and simple. It was probably the easiest call for the ref to make all game. Admit it and stop blaming other people for your mistakes.
even mick is making excuses for him.
never seen a bigger whiner and baby on the sideline than mick.
thankfully my kids weren't as good as i was in reading his lips from the sideline immediatley before getting t'd up.
Then you must not have seen Jim Calhoun lastnight.
Wow. I didn't see the game but all reporting and Homer Machuck on radio called it a stupid foul by Bishop. There was no hint of it not being a fair call. Nor "He made me foul him".
This freshman needs to grow up and take responsibility for his actions. Does anyone question whether it was a legit call by the ref to whistle the foul on Bishop?
If Chuck Machock calls it a foul on UC, you can take it to the bank that it was a foul on UC. Machock is a true UC fan and "homer".
Bill, its your blog. You’re allowed to self promote. Please hyperlink reference when you post a new online article about UC. Thanks.
I’ll help to link this one:
Tough UC loss to take by Bill Koch
Even though Bishop made a mistake, the Bearcats still had an open look at the basket for a chance to win in the last second. 3-1 in league games that have gone down to the wire is a lot better than I expected after the non-conference play. Hopefully they can win on the road at Seton Hall.
I wish I had a tape of the play. It looked wierd. I said to myself why did he (Bishop) do that. Today, Bishop says UConn grabbed him. I believe our guy. Whose side are you on? I think some of these Anons must be UConn fans.
I think a lot of these anons are all the same person, with the same axe to grind.
You could be right Anon 5:31.
Next on my mind is the no-call on Vaughn's last shot. The rule of thumb is that if shooter's arms (Vaughn) go up and ball goes down, then the defender hit the ball. If the ball goes up and the arms stay down, then the defender hit the arms.
The ball went up. And Vaughn says he was fouled.
Just pointing that out. They should have been ahead by 10 points so that a couple calls don't make the difference.
Mr koch, following up on anon 5:19pm post. Why don't you post a new thread based on each significant online article you publish? Then, we could blog focused on your article. I'm sure most will be good feedback but some unflattering comments will be expected too. What do you think?
Anon 6:15, If youre on this blog then you must be on the cincinnati.com site so you can easily go to the sports page and check out all the uc articles, 95 percent of which are by bill. no need to add to his work load as he does not get paid any extra to do this blog, which trust me is rather time consuming.
Or they could just go over to Josh's blog. Over there you have subscribe if you want to post, but it is free to read if you just register.
PS. I'm not sure it whether it is inapropriate to plug his site or not.
Thanks for now allowing us to post without moderation
Ah Chris, i assume you meant 6:19pm post. which is me.
The point is to create a thread that is focused on Mr. Koch's latest published article. Then, that thread's reply comments would be focused on mr. Koch's work. I think it's up to Mr. koch, if he wants that type of immediate and focused feedback.
But I think bloggers would like to go back and forth about Mr. Koch's opinion and articles on a common thread.
My recommendation has little to do with saving blogger's time or adding to mr. Kochs' work load. But that is for him to decide if he wants to invest 1 minute, to start a thread with link to his latest online article. But thanks for your reply anyway.
Bishops explanation was obviously true even in real time, that was a veteran play probably actually called by Calhoun.
4:05, are you serious? Pretty sure you can't say the game was "lost before that" when we were up 1 at the time....And people should really stop bashing bishop, maybe he fouled him maybe he was held on to. But regardless, he has stepped up huge for us this season and has played very "heady" every game up to this point, especially for a freshman. Have some class and get behind your college player as a fan.
some of you oldtimers need bigger computer screens or reading glasses. Are you guessing what you are reading?
So in other words, Sippin's lack of experience put his player in a bad possition.
Com on Little Mickey go back to the OVC and keep learning.

Sippin' said OK, as long as you go back to the 'x' blog. Oh, that's right. There isn't one...LOL
So in other words, Sippin's lack of experience put his player in a bad possition.

Exactly! And Chuggin' Huggins lack of sobriety caused Charles Williams to dribble the ball of of his foot, Miles Simon to hit a 70-foot bank shot, and Kenyon Martin's leg to snap like a twig.
Still, I bet Bob and Mick both could manage to spell the word "position" if asked.
11:49, it might depend what time of night that you would ask Chuggins' to spell it. We could give 10:16 a break on his spelling of "position." After all, he is an 'x' grad!
Let the kid have his flippin' ticket.
Or let him just go to the NBA right now...today...immediately!
Bishop said: "...He did a veteran play. He just caught me."
That last part, Bill, makes me think the kid is telling the truth. It's one thing to claim he had his arm grabbed to make it look like he fouled. It's another thing to give the guy credit for being a smart veteran. I think Bishop is pretty sure about this one.
The bad news is that it seems to have impressed Bishop.
Too bad, because what Price did is called cheating.
2:07pm have you ever played a game of physical sport before?
so banging bodies is called cheating? Are fouls acts of cheating?
A bearcat fan wrote this at BearcatNews, "Sitting three rows back under the basket in 113 with Bishop coming right at me on the inbounds play, it was pretty clear the UConn player had every bit as much of Bishop as Bishop had of him. I saw Bishop's jersey pulled and wondered for a split second if the foul was going to be on UConn."
A. J. Price pulled Bishop's jersey. It wasn't cheating, but it was "dirty." Banging isn't dirty. Depending on how the refs are calling the game, contact is allowable.
I saw Williamson push off once when he did not have the ball. I wasn't at the game and the screen at the Sports bar in Altanta plus my aging eyeballs didn't let allow me to see details such as grabbing, but the way John pushed, looked as though somebody was grabbing him close to the waist by the arm (or jersey) and he pushed to break it off.
We have to go back a few years to actually say "cheating." The punch that Tony Bobbitt took in the nads was cheating.
Dumb Freshman mistake but if anyone can comeback from something like this i think it's Bishop.....the kid has made some amazing clutch plays early in his young career AKA the three against Nova, the block against Pitt, and the floater in the lane against UCONN right before his foul. He's not afraid to take chances ina big-time situation i like him
