UC 60, St. John's 43 - final

A late flurry brought St. John's up to 25.5 percent and 12 field goals on the night. The West Virginia standard remains for this season. Williamson had a double-double of 25 points and 11 rebounds. Vaughn had a career low 3 points but it didn't matter. The Bearcats now have more wins than they had all of last season.

Isn't it great? The Bearcats are .500 and we're elated!!

Yes we're .500 and elated. And if you're not, just close ya mouth and let us be happy.

Not elated with .500, but the progress continues to be pleasant. Given the pre-season expectations, I think that 7-5 in the Big East is a powerfule statement from the team. I'm pleased with the effort and while I admit that 11-11 is a far cry from 19-3, given Micks starting point any intelligent fan has to be pleased...What about Williamson? He keeps this up we're a different team!

Eat it, haters

Nay Sayers....Why the nasty negativity? I mean if you're not a fan I understand your immature and pathetic missives. I don't get why you're here (other than obsessing over UC), but oh well...For the UC fans that are negative, why? What were your expectations for Mick and the team this year? If we are underachieving so badly (in your eyes) please tell us why you thought we'd be so much better... I don't get how anyone could be disappointed with this team.

It seems that now it is either Williamson or Vaughn. What we need is for it to be BOTH Williamson and Vaughn. That would open things up for everyone else, except for Adam H., who couldn't make a shot if he was on the court by himself. But if Williamson and Vaughn are both on, this would become a very tough team to beat.

Dave,

I fail to see how they're a “different” team with Williamson keeping this up.

They've averaged 58 points in regulation in these past two games when Williamson “kept it up.”

Willy gives us an inside scoring threat - Vaughn hasn't done much, and he's not going to be shut down. You now have to game plan for another viable option. That little left hand jump hook is sweet if he can keep the confidence in it...

We score at least 10 more than 60 tonight if we don't take the air out of the ball the last 3-5 minutes.

I don't care how many we score as long as it is more than what the other team scores.

ewad: except that strategy won't consistently work against the better teams.

This team has won at Louisville and West Virginia as well as beating Syracuse, Villanova and Pitt at home, and they should have beaten UConn.

Whats the concern with playing better teams?

at 10:45 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

So scoring more points than the other team doesn't work if the other team is better? Huh, you learn something new every day.

at 11:02 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yeah, I thought scoring more than the other team at the final buzzer meant you won the game, no matter how good the other team is...crazy to think that's not true. Hmmmm...

Anyway, painful first half but way to put their foot on the gas in the second. The people here that are negative about being .500 and 7-5 in the league at this point in the season are just clueless. They have to be not to see the progress and be satisfied. Maybe not elated, but certainly pleased and satisfied with where we sit and the potential of where this team can be, and that is 15-15 at the end of the year with a 10-8 Big East record, maybe even better...and quite possibly an NIT bid. This from a coach in his second year with all 1 and 2 year players (and by 2 year I mean in this league, with this team, with this coach.) St. Johns is a poor team so the win may not elude the more positive outlook that some of us seem to have from the naysayers. Nonetheless, a "W" is a "W" and I'll take this one as well. Nice to have a week off to rest Vaughn. Sorry to point out that AK (still love the guy) is 3-6 in a poor SEC and after starting 15-0, has gone 1-6 since. OUCH.

No,the strategy of "not caring" about the number of points scored won't work against the better teams on a CONSISTENT basis. UC found that out in the NCAA Tourney many times under Huggins.

HuggieBears sure are quiet. Mick can win with 1 1/2 Players; wait till he gets 5, 6 or 7!

Good to see the 'Cats grind out another win to tie Marquette for 6th in the Big East.
The name of the game for this team is to pick up a win whenever and wherever they can. We really need to take care of business against South Florida and get a cushion for the rough schedule afterwards.
Great to see Davis making some nice athletic plays along with Williamson to take the pressure off Vaughn.
As to the naysayers, they'll be back after a 'Cats loss -- not to discuss basketball, but simply to insult others. No need to respond to that level. They are simply irrelevant.

Everybody listen up. monclova steve has spoken. Now don't question anything and just follow his orders!

Not one to say I told you so. But this was exactly what I predicted a Bearcat blowout. Never question Saint CSA.

Yes, you predicted a blowout by 25. I must tip my cap.

"Mick can win with 1 1/2 Players; wait till he gets 5, 6 or 7!"

How insulting to the young men on the team who are giving it their all. It takes a team to win - not 1 1/2 players. And who is the half pint? Are you insulting Mick too?

What an idiotic post - no clue as to how a team is needed to win.

Really is upsetting to say the others on the squad aren't worth squat and don't contribute. Totally moronic.
