UConn 47, UC 15 - Halftime

Here are the ugly numbers: UC is 5-32 from the field. Vaughn and Warren each have three fouls. UC has 10 turnovers. UConn has blocked seven UC shots. You'll excuse me, I hope, if I don' t conitnue with blow-by-blow description the rest of the way. You get the idea.

Fire Cronin. NOW!!!!!

Can you believe your eyes and ears? A 30-0 run!!! That was the absolute worst half of basketball that I have witnessed in my entire life. At ANY level and at ANY time. And I have been watching basketball for decades. What a team! What a coach!

They are worsening exponentially. When is all of this bleeding ever going to stop? Does anyone want to explain to me now about what a great coach Mick Cronin is???

Shame... sad... pathetic.
Any other adjectives available?

This team is a joke.

Thankfully the JUCO 5 only have 1 more game after this. Vaughn can't do anything because everyone else knows the rest of the team is useless.

Bill, I hope you brought along the "barf" bag from the plane.

The only silver lining I can see in this debacle (the end of season meltdown) is that I may finally get seats in the lower section (I'm intentionally avoiding using the term the "lower bowl") of the Shoe next year.

Reduced from a perennially ranked and respected team to the gutter. At least we should make all the highlight reels, as the laughingstock of the nation. Who has ever seen a 30-0 in their lifetime? Aren't we glad that we have the right coach to get UC basketball turned around? NCAA Bubble team?? What a difference two weeks can make. After this game, it's five in a row and counting. Somebody is licking their chops in the first round of the Big East tournament when the streak ends at six games. But that’s only because the season will be over.

Now everything's out there for all of you to see. Therefore, I'll have no further comment tonight as your President. The coaching performance and the game speak all for themselves.

Sincerely,

President of the 'We Love Mick No Matter What' Fan Club

Thanks Nancy!

At least we have comedy on the weekends...

I feel sorry for Vaughn...

Funny thing is that Cronin has this job as long as Nancy is President! Can we take this performance thru 2012 and beyond?

up 50 with 5 min to go. Starters still in game. Pathetic on both ends.

at 7:13 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

This was the worst display that I have ever watched on TV. It is all about coaching or the lack thereof. Cronin is not the coach that is going to turn things around. Thanks Mike Thomas for the excellent job you did recruiting a new bball coach. Next time take a few weeks to look around. What a mess.

Sure will be glad when the Jucos are gone. UC does not deserve to play at Madison Square.

at 7:20 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Thanks nancy, if we never met you we would have Bill Walker and OJ mayo to watch this year.

Terrible... somewhere in the didstance I can hear Zimpher cackling.

Bill, forget the "barf" bag from the plane. I hope you had a blindfold. At least I could switch to QVC.

Mick Cronin can't put the ball in the basket. The players do. Luckily, five of those players that are leaving next year are good enough for a rebuilding team, but not good enough for a powerhouse. You can't just fire a coach who is basically building a program from scratch after two years, especially after a year in which we were competitive in one of the most powerful leagues in the NCAA with much lesser talent. You guys are pretty short-sighted on here for the most part. Not to mention the fact that these guys have been through travelling hell the past few days. I doubt they were able to get proper conditioning for the game.

Oh, thank goodness for your comments, Chris. I was so concerned that all of the Mick Defenders would go into seclusion after this UConn fiasco. But sure enough one is actually brave enough to step up to the plate and defend our illustrious coach. I've been saying since the beginning and will continue to say that he is a mid-major coach. I agree that the talent was limited, but so are Mick's motivational and coaching skills. These last five games are starting to make this very obvious. This isn't going to end until we have a coach who can both recruit for himself and coach. Right now both abilities are quite questionable in Mick's case.

"I doubt they were able to get proper conditioning for the game."

That is easily, the funniest comment on the board this entire season Chris. Take off your UC hat, t-shirt, lounge pants, slippers, and boxers and realize this. You care about a team and school that cares NOTHING about what you think. NOTHING about the fact that you live and die by this program. NOTHING about the fact that THEY put this thing in the toilet. I used to love UC. LOVE THEM. The 14 shirts that sit idle in my closet would prove that. I ditched them, when they ditched the future. And now, I know root for Huggs, wherever we goes. I still have no passion for college basketball like the way Van Exel, Durden, Burton, K-Mart, Levitt, Forston, Logan and even that limp wristed Meeker gave to me. THEY took it away.

Root for someone else. Someone who cares if you do.

Yes Mick can't actualy put the ball in the hoop. But he can coach them on how to do it. He can demand they take care of the ball. He can fight so his players know not to quit. God I miss Bob and the guts his teams played with.

at 8:53 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

At this point, probably both Mick and I wish the same thing. That he was still the head coach ----- at Murray State.

Oh, that's right. This is his dream job.

The question: Is Mick our dream coach?

at 9:06 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yeah, Right CHRIS, Blame the loss on the weather. That's about the most lame excuse I've ever heard.

What kind of traveling hell could the team possibly have gone through by riding on a chartered flight. You act as if they got to U Conn by dog sled.

Good riddance DG and all you other bandwagoners. Go root for Huggins and AK, you guys have no loyalty or guts. I will give Mick a couple of years before I demand his firing. The reason is when he became UC's coach he had 2 bad scholarship players and he had to recruit leftover Jucos to field a partial team. UC should make the NIT next year and the NCAA's the next, if that does not occur then MIck needs to go. Mick did beat his mentors on the road with inferior teams. Our program has been in decline since 2002. In 2003 we barely made the Tourney. In 2004 we lose to Illinois by 24 in the Tourney and beat nobody of consequence during the season. IN 2005 Huggs loses to UL and Depaul by more than 25 points and we are a 7 seed.

It's not likely, but it would be interesting to see the Bearcats upset Pitt, then reel off 1 more to cruise into the semis of the Big East tourney. Interesting only because I'd be curious to see what Sippin' Mick and the rest of lonely, lifeless Cronin haters would say. I haven't asked for much in this lifetime, but that would be sweet.

Do you think Sippin' Mick, etc. are actual UC fans who will just change their signature and start being positive? Or maybe they're Kentucky fans. Maybe X fans? Either way, the masquerade is annoying, and really sad. Good luck Bearcats.

Anon 8:25-

So you're choosing to simply look at the last five games of the season and ignore all of the competitive games with other Big East foes like Louisville, Villanova, Pitt, Xavier, West Virginia (and the sacred Bob Huggins in a golden Leprechaun pimp suit), and the other Big East teams? Games in which we weren't expected to be competitive, at least not this year? Why would a top high-school athlete go to a school where all of the top talent left the program years ago over Louisville or other Big East schools? I guess Cashmere Wright (#25 PG) and Yancy Gates (#23 PF) are bad recruits, as well as this past year's top 25 recruit class. Until his recruited talent matures, we can't claim to know what kind of coach he is.

dg -

Do you think Bob Huggins and West Virginia cares if you root for the Mountaineers or not? Am I supposed to be amazed by the commitment that Bob Huggins displays in his job performance and general conduct? Nothing says "I care" like a severely-low athlete graduation rate, driving through local communities in a drunk stupor and falling asleep at the wheel, and spending one year at KSU and abandoning it immediately following the season. I don't pledge allegiance to a coach, or a president, or an athlete, or an athletic director - I pledge my support to a team and a university because I am a part of it or feel like I'm a part of it. The best part about being a fan is I don't care who cares if I'm a fan or not. I'm a fan because I want to be.

Anon 8:49 -

You can't polish dirt. While these guys are all athletes, the seniors for the most part just aren't Big East material. If you could teach anyone how to dribble, take care of the ball, and shoot accurately, I wouldn't be sitting here chatting with you guys. And obviously these guys can score, but in a competitive league like this it takes a lot more. Anyone can score points in a backyard game of basketball but this is elite competition in the Big East. And Bob? His teams had enough guts to consistently make it past the first or second round in the NCAA tourney - some of his players were recruited by the current UC coach.

Wow, that must have been the worst-coached game EVER. Seriously.

What an absolute sham. Mick's coaching has been beyond words wretched lately, and it seemed to coincide with Mitchell's suspension.

Can Mick coach OR recruit? Or will he turn out to be one of the worst coaches imaginable? Does he know anything about the game?

Absolutely NO defense and NO offense and NO effort and NO anything positive.

What a sham.

How about will the Big East tourney loss be? Not much different record than last year.

But Mick's the "Coach of the Year??"

He just sits there and sips and sips away at his water bottle without any answers.

Nope. I'm sure Huggins could care less if he still has fans in Cincy. But, the recruiting at WVU hasn't stopped for two years because of someone bent on destroying it. Everyone is one the same page, caring about the program. That's all a fan can ask.

And, Huggs would have never gotten that DUI if he had the proper conditioning to handle the alcohol. I am completely sure that every UC player since 1989 would have graduated if it never snowed in Cincinnati.

Joseph, my fellow fan:

Did you even watch a portion of the game last night? This team would be hard pressed to be a Pittsburgh area high school team with the zero effort they put forth. A person does not need to be a Cronin hater to question what on earth is happening on that team. It's honestly reached the embarrassment level. For Mick, for the players(?), and unfortunately for us fans.

if you are not a UC fan anymore, then why did you come to this blog after the game?
simple question...
