Mauk's assessment of the other quarterbacks

While Ben Mauk has been waiting for an NCAA ruling on his status for next year he has been at practice working with the other quarterbacks.

Here’s Mauk’s assessment of the five quarterbacks in spring practice:

“They’re progressing. I think Demetrius (Jones) has a long way to go, but he’s at the right place. I think Chazz (Anderson) has a lot more confidence now. One of the guys I really like is Zach Collaros. He’s real athletic. He kind of plays how I like to play. He could be the man down the road for a long time.

“Tony Pike has come a long way. He changed his grip on the football and he looks real good. And of course you have Dustin Grutza with his experience. He can come in and win a game. All these guys have the tools to do it.”

Just a quick observation. It seems that since "moderation" has begun on this blog that the number of comments has steadily decreased. In fact, to the point that there are now very few of them. Granted, there's not a bunch happening right now, but the other sports blogs are still receiving quite a number of comments. Also, it seems to take an inordinate amount of time for the comments that are made to even appear. Sometimes a day, and occasionally even two days. Is only one person now doing all of the "moderating" at this point? And with so few comments, it would seem that "moderating" now would be a cakewalk.

Just wondering...

Well, if you want to test the time-delay, then you can time-stamp your comment.

Interesting comments from Mauk - especially about Collaros. Zach appears to be on the bubble according to other thoughts and views I've seen.

It'd be nice if the NCAA would make a decision on Ben's appeal, but I bet they don't do it until next Monday. The jerks.

Bill - what is up with Ward? Mick cannot comment so we probably have to wait to see who mails in their scholarship papers. I agree with others that it would have been a good idea to leave a scholarship open so Mick can at least recruit 2 for the next class. Playing time is going to be hard to get next season so my guess is that 1 or 2 guys that don't play much this year will be encouraged to transfer. Then Mick will get another guy or two next Spring. It will be nice when the classes get balanced and it's 3 or 4 freshmen in each year. I hope there is some coverage of the summer league.

Lucky for you you are still able to get your opinion of Cronin in with your blog name.

Now - on to the actual topic. I'd like to hear more about how Collaros is progressing as well. I was impressed with the video I had seen of his play in high school.

I know it seems to scare the writers sometimes, but the fun part of the blog are the instant back and forth discussions that can occour. Open it up and let the thoughts flow. If someone posts something inapropriate just remove it asap.
Interesting thoughts on what Ben has been seeing. Z.C. is an interesting issue... I keep thinking he'll be the guy that switches possition but Ben's eye on the situation gives me a little different thought.

ucbearcatfan,

Just keep on drinking the BB koolaid and remember to 'Love Mick No Matter What' at all times.

Meanwhile, I'll enjoy the fact that we have a GOOD football team with a GOOD coach.

By the way, what's your favorite flavor?
