Urban Meyer visit

Many UC fans wanted Urban Meyer to be the Bearcats' after Rick Minter was fired in 2003, but Meyer, who played at UC in 1984, wasn't interesrted.

Of course, he went on to become the head coach at Florida and led the Gators to the national championship in 2006.

He's expected to be at his old school tomorrow morning paying a visit to Brian Kelly and the Bearcats during their morning practice after presiding over Florida's spring game Saturday in front of 61,000 fans.

This may be wrong, but I thought that Urban Meyer was an assistant coach for one year at UC. Didn't think that he ever actually played for the Cats.

Anyhow, it's interesting that he would even visit. Word is that he sort of had his nose in the air in the past regarding UC.

Just wonder why he would visit. Doesn't appear to be any obvious explanations. Any thoughts?

kind of curious. why is Urban visiting with BK? Is Florida's spring season practice over? Seems odd an active coach visiting another active coach's practice?

What's "the rest of the story"? Urban just dropping in to see Kelly or ... an old sorority GF???
We need some dirt on this guy.

Wow. Good for him. I'm glad.

I understand Urban's hard feelings about the "bad old days", but they were bad for everybody.

I would hope that he sees that this is a good thing (a GREAT thing) and that UC is stepping on to the national stage where it should have been all along.

Urban was a DB from 83-86, then coached at high school level (St X I think).

Anyway, once a Bearcat, always a Bearcat (at least in heart). I welcome him back and hope BK is not considering an O-coordinator like position.

My best guess, BK is lobeying to get Mauk a coaching job since all of his GA jobs are filled.

It always amazes me how the Cincy media will take jab at UC at absolutely any opportunity. Thanks Bill for pointing out that Florida had 61,000 at their spring game which has absolutely nothing to do with UC or why Urban Meyer is visiting. Funny how you just slipped that in there.

Urban Meyer was a Defensive Back for the Bearcats. He's from Ohio and met his wife at UC. He said (in an article, not to me) that he always had good feelings for UC. I don't blame him for going after a top 10 job instead of UC. Notre Dame and Florida were the two publically after him. I love my alma mater but can't blame the guy for taking the Gators job.
It would not surprise me if he is in town (or the vicinity)for recruiting purposes and figured he'd drop in on his alma mater and it's new coach, who runs a similar scheme to him. He's no slime ball like many are insunuating. If an alum or, moreso, a member of the Bearcat family, is in the area (regardless of their current job), the University and Athletic Department will welcome them with open arms. That is how you build a program and a feeling of ownership in the University.

Urban WAS a Bearcat...graduated from UC and did play football. I think he still has some family up this way, so he's just stopping by to check out his alma mater. Cool if you ask me.

It is an oddity in college football coaches from other schools (outside their league) often visit other campuses gathering and sharing ideas.
I think this is a good thing.
It would be nice to see a prominant alum "come home" so to speak.

It amazes me, how people will try and blame the media for anything.
I don't know how the Florida attendance at a scrimmage, is a slam against UC. Ok..so, Florida gets 61,000. In years past, UC was lucky to get 61. Nothing new there. Hopefully more people get interested and show up for scrimmages, or more importantly..games.
But, don't go slamming "the media" for something Bill wrote on his blog.
