2008 football opener on Thursday, Aug. 28
UC announced today that it will open its 2008 football season on a Thursday night for third time in the last four years on Aug. 28 against Eastern Kentucky. UC last played EKU in 2006, posting a 31-0 win in the season opener.

UC hurts its BCS prospects even with an excellent Win/loss record when they play the east/west affiliates.
Come on BK. Step up your game and play national powers to match your rhetoric.
Good, I'm glad to see that UC is going to screw all their fans who live outside the (513, 859) area codes.
Can we please lose the filter, it slows down the bloging process. Its like killing the conversation that goes on on-line.
If someone puts something obnoxious up just take it down.
some of the anonymous posters on here add absolutely nothing to this board.
tons of bcs teams play a couple of cupcakes. uc is playing oklahoma next year. what does that say about their bcs chances?
besides, if you want to make a bcs game, you should win your conference. otherwise its out of your control. ask missouri...
Anon. 6:42 did BK schedule the game while he was at Central Michigan? No, so what's your point.
Do NOT kill the filter. Just check it more frequently!
6:42...you mean a national power like....Oklahoma? Tool.
Anon 7:42 what silliness. Are you arguing that UC enters the BCS bidding on equal footing with OSU, Florida, Michigan, USC, etc.
What nonsense to compare their one powder puff opponent with UC's 1-2 powder puffs.
UC does not have a FB reputation and must exceed the standards set for football powers. Duh!
Please don't wast future posting space.
Just eliminate anonymous posting. If people want to chat enough, they'll register. Look at Trent's old Reds board.
Diz - ALL the teams play a cupcake or two...You're right about what some of these people add to the forum. Take them for what they are. Attention whores. "Look at me, I'm a moron!" they say. "I might be the only person who thinks I'm funny, but so what, as long as I garner attention, who cares?"
yawn.
Message boards and chat rooms are for online "conversation". Blogs are supposed to be for adding something of value to some subject started by the blog host.
When you only have eight teams in your conference, it becomes more difficult to schedule all top-notch teams like, say, Appalachian State, so we had to settle for Oklahoma and EKU. And, if we had the Big 12 North on our OOC schedule, the same people would complain that we'll never get anywhere playing that schedule.
You play a Thursday night game so that you have more time to prepare for the next game against Oklahoma.
I just returned from New Zealand...how'd O$U do in their latest bowl game against an SEC opponent?
the other reason to play on thursday night is because you will get national exposure as the game will most likely be on espn...
Just as an f.y.i. ESPN and the Big East are very likely driving the train here. Just enjoy having Thursday nights for UC to be in the spotlight.
As Dizzylo said, LOTS of teams tune up with cupcakes (witness Michigan, Penn State, etc.) But over-scheduling of such is what got UConn last year and caught up to them: when they weren't at home they were pretty much exposed.
Having Oregon State as a second game last year wasn't exactly a walk, seeing as they were a preseason top 25 consideration.
Is it inconvenient for those in the 513/859 to give up a Thursday night. Oh my yes!
But for those of us NOT in the aforementioned area codes, we give up sometimes whole days to travel to and from Cincinnati to be at the games.
So how about you poor put-out 'fans' doing some manning up and stopping the whining? Give life a chance instead of being afraid. It's really starting to get very boring. It just ain't worth the time to read your bilge.
Ahhh. I travel to almost all home games and some road games. I come from outside the surrounding area codes.
It ticks me off that UC plays games on Thursday nights especialy when they have a choice.
It screws folks like me.
I hate the fact that I'll probably now miss the home opener again.
The athletic department is already making a stupid move having more road games than home games.
Now they piss away a Saturday game oprotunity.
Don't give me the crap about not being a good fan because I already have plans to be in Norman the next weekend.
I donate and buy tickets, but this does tick me off.
