Marquette 75, UC 60 - Final

UC was simply outhustled and played terrible interior defense. Final points in the paint, 40-18 in favor of Marquette. Vaughn can't do it all by himself.

And Mick wonders why this team doesn't get any respect nationally??? They are 10-12 after this game and 5-5 in the conference. That's despite their "great" Big East performance this year.

You aren't great when you give St. John's their only win (easily) and lose to a team that can't win on the road. They are .500 in the conference and dropping fast.

Still a long way to go. Mick has to get a couple great shooters and I don't see them on the horizon yet.

Also need more consistent defensive coaching but I'm not sure Mick will ever get it done. He seems to always have letdowns.

Why can't Kennedy still be at UC? His teams at least made EFFORT in every game. This team has not even played hard here and they did the same at St. John's.

The myopia with respect to the future of this team is mind-numbing at times. 5 JUCOs plus 6 freshmen playing in one of the preeminent basketball conferences in the nation. Patience.

I am so sick of Adam Hrycaniuk. He doesn't know what he is doing when he gets in the game. During practice, he needs to attempt a thousand lay-ups. UC would have been a heck of a lot closer at the end of the game even if he made half of his put backs. Am I the only one who thinks he should be sitting on the bench after every missed shot?

at 2:21 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Got beat by a much better team. Plain and simple. No sidebars.

at 2:24 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hey 2:13 No. 1:

Where are the pure shooters coming from next year? This team needs at least a couple and I haven't seen any added to the roster yet. Mick doesn't seem to value offense very much (sounds a little like Huggins).

Kennedy got great shooters to come to Ole Miss by his second season. To come to OLE MISS by his SECOND season.

And 2:13 No. 2 - H should remain on the bench but we know Mick will let him play more minutes than hardly anyone else, while complaining how mean fans are to him (in between his saying team hasn't gotten enough respect for its continued great performance, LOL).

Timing a bit bad for you about now after that comment, Mick?

Inside sources are reporting that Adam H. attempted to throw his jersey into the hamper in the locker room and missed.

Solution:
Move to Missisippi.

Quit Crying.

at 3:23 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

quit posting about kennedy. He is not our coach, bob huggins is not our coach. Get over it already. Quit being so negative. It is getting very old. Go post on the Ole Miss board....

at 3:28 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hey 2:13, why have Adam H. shoot 1,000 layups in practice? He would miss at least 998 of them!

at 3:31 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Wow! It's 3:30 and the We'll Defend Mick Blindly Supporters haven't shown up yet. There was NO real effort shown today and we were at home! Very disturbing.

at 3:32 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

2:24
if Kennedy has such great shooters why 3-3 in the Sec and 6th place?

at 3:35 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Kennedy doesn't coach here, and never again will. There's no use discussing what would have been if he had been hired.

The truth about the team this year is that they are mediocre. They'll surprise us, yes, with wins like WVU and Pitt, but more often than not they'll pack it in some games.

Just watch the game and be happy we're able to at least compete with these powerhouse teams this year.

at 3:38 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Only takes one game post WVU to get everyone back to reality.

at 3:43 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Anyone else as happy as I am that Adam H. wasn't eligible to play last year? Biggie would be playing more I'm sure if he didn't have the bone spur on his foot. Play anybody but H.!!

at 3:52 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Adam H. will never be benched, although IMHO he should be watching the games. The fact is opposing coaches and players LOVE him too much to allow his benching to ever happen.

3:32-

I don't know. I guess the same reason Ole Miss is 16-3 and in the Top 25. NCAA Tourney with a good seed appears likely in Kennedy's second year. Mick's team would be lucky to make the NIT at this point and well might not even do that. Maybe next year.

at 4:12 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Anyone here agree that Mick's coaching was poor today? If so, say "I."

I

at 4:13 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

4:12, what coaching?

at 4:15 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

@4:12, 4:13

Get a life and stop talking to yourself

at 4:18 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

back to FB:'
After looking at a couple of different programs and turning down some scholarship offers from lower division programs, Mark Nelson will become a Bearcat.

at 4:21 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

4:15, you're probably as right about that as most things. And you were not right.

at 4:35 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

That's right the Cheviot Sports Authority doesn't know what he's talking about. UC is playing great basketball and should be getting National attention. Mick Cronin is doing a marvelous job and should be coach of the year. Cincinnati will be back in the NCAA tournament before Kentucky gets back. By season's end the Bearcats will be the best basketball team in the area and Hillary Clinton will make a wonderful president. Have a nice weekend.
CSA

at 4:39 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

There you go again, CSA! You really should know better than to tell the truth. The Mick Defense calvary will soon be on the way!

at 5:38 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

CSA...you're a clown. UC lost today to a better team. Plain and simple. Mick is still doing a hell of a job...and you're still a loser.

Yes, I will support Mick until it's fully his program. These are not the caliber of players he will consistently have. But, for the time being, you can continue to spout drivel from your bar stool in Cheviot. Good luck to your Xavier Muskies in their battle against LaSalle. Man, they better be ready.

at 6:20 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Oh, CSA. I warned you, didn't I? It's always only a matter of time before the Mick supportees arrive on the scene to defend his honor and dignity.

at 6:38 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

I wish you would come out with a stance CSA. Are you a UC fan or not? Or are you here just to irritate people? I'm curious. Xavier fan? Sports fan? Where do your allegiances reside?

Same with the rest. Why do you come here?

at 6:42 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

'cause we like you. M-O-U-S-E Mickey Mouse. Oooops, that's probably not PC here.

at 7:02 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

This is turning into a place to avoid...win or lose.

at 7:07 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Kennedy now 3-4 in the SEC We need him back?

at 7:11 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

I thought we weren't supposed to talk about Kennedy or Huggins on this blog. Oh, that's right, we can if it's something negative about either of them. Hypocrites!

at 8:43 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Not a good performance today, but I'm still proud of this team. They need to make hay in their next three games.

You don't want to play from behind when a team has the kind of quickness that Marquette has.

at 8:47 PM Blogger Dave in Omaha said...

Young teams experience plenty of ups and downs. Would have been sweet to follow up a big road win with another at home. Marquette is tough. They are well coached. They have experience and it shows. What, some of you were expecting UC to run the table? Patience. I'm enjoying the fact that I'm caring again. Pacing the room, swearing at the TV, impoloring someone to "get a damn rebound". This us a fun team to watch. Growing pains be damned. The team is better now than they were at the beginning of the year. They'll be better in a month and even better next year and beyond. I hate the losses, but love the expectations....

at 8:48 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

It's difficult, if not impossible, to win against a good team when only one player shows up to play. Hopefully, Vaughn won't be out there by himself in the future.

at 9:33 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

OK everybody, here is the deal.
WVU and Ole Miss will be dancing come March and UC won't. Who is the best coach Huggs, AK, Mick, who knows? That being said UC is 10-12 and they are not much better than last year, maybe a little better. Williamson, H, Gentry, are terrible. They have no business wearing a Bearcat uniform. Warren plays hard and I like him, even if he did drive drunk, with no license, on the wrong side of the road, wreck the car, break his hand, and was not even suspended by Mick.
Next year all of Sippin Mick's excuses are gone.

Does anyone get tired of the the media or coaches yapping about "fan" support then the next game the team lays a major egg at home? Kock, Doc, you go to UC games for free, it is called a press pass and a front row seat. Do not tell us how to spend our money.

I was not even impressed with Marquette, UC was just so bad that Withrow could have beaten UC. The best part of the game was the halftime show and than cheerleader Britney Bauman.

at 9:59 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

You should remain anonymous if your basketball intelligence is comparing UC to Ole Miss and West Virginia programs at this point and time.

When does the incessant madness of comparing everything about UC basketball today to two long-gone coaches and two programs at completely different stages end?

9:33, Go buy a clue.

Cronin beat Huggins on Huggins' turf this week. Amazing you forgot so quickly. Huggins has a slew of returnees. Does this mean that Cronin is a better coach than Huggins. Of course not. I try not to say stupid things.

But it does mean that he and his patched together team deserve a chance. They deserve a chance to grow, and he deserves a chance to show what he can do.

To the Hrycaniuk critics: just which other big man do you see clogging the middle and pulling down rebounds? Mick's right to keep him in there.

Stealing from footbabll, the bball Bearcats really could do with learning a 3 minute defense drill. Anything, really, to shake them up in the middle of a game.

at 10:18 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Is Mick Cronin related to Tony Yates? Coaching syles and results are very similar.

at 10:25 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hey WVU won at Providence today. 16-6 and looking OK to make a run at the NCCA tourney! Ole Miss looking good too. I hear that Nancy is hosting a March Madness party at her place, Xavier fans only please.

at 10:43 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

UC might be making an NCAA run too if Cronin was left with the same experienced rosters and fresh recruiting classes that Huggins and Kennedy were handed at WVU and Miss.

Sheesh. How dumb can you be?

at 2:45 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Sippin' Mick thought up some tricks
He slowed down games to make the clock tick
But when it really mattered in big games, his teams just threw up bricks

Sippin' Mick he's not so slick
He just makes you feel sick
He sits on the sidelines taking sips
With no idea how to right our ship

Sippin' Mick can't coach a lick
He whines just like a little prick
He makes you want to give the remote a click
I'm really tired of his same old shtick

I wish this nightmare would end quick
That Thomas would give Mick a kick
But even though it makes me sick
We seem to be stuck with Sippin' Mick

at 7:35 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Some UC fans don't like Mick.
They think he can't coach a lick.
But before you give him the boot.
Give him a chance to recruit.

Players, players, players - Mick doesn't have them - Give him X's players and Mick would be sitting on top of BE.

Muskie fan says be patient - MC can coach and success is on the near horizon.

at 8:37 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

the good news is the remaining schedule is not as tough -

they should go 5 - 3, and end up at .500 for the year. compared to 11 - 19 last year, a big step forward.

still - not seeing the 'great' coaching some people talk about.

AK is coaching circles around mick.

Go Cats!

at 9:23 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

You're nuts if you think Kennedy is outcoaching Cronin.

Look at the two teams and look at the experience and the talent differences and then come back with an educated observation.

I'm guessing you haven't seen Ole Miss actually play but are just looking at records. IF UC finishes at .500 or better in the Big East Cronin is coach of the year.

Get a clue.

Whats really sad about 2:45's poetry is that he probably thinks it's funny. Imagine him taking the time to sit, think it out and with an earnest expression on his face and a nod he submits it. Not funny or interesting. All it is is more evidence that an attention whore is among us. pathetic

at 10:01 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Kennedy is coaching in a tougher league.

at 10:31 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Look, Kennedy is a terrific coach. We all know that. But he inherited a lot more talent at Ole Miss with their top four scorers returning and needed fewer players. UC had to literally beat on doors to field a team that could even have a practice squad last year.

Read this Sporting News item about UC recruiting during the transition to Cronin and how it's prediction has come true. Then, after you've learned something, tell us how awful of a job Cronin is doing to even be sniffing .500.

http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=72661

btw: Kennedy had to get seven players this year. He got two from Juco and only one top-flight recruit, Malcolm White. Everyone else was roster fill.

He, too, is just now in his first full recruiting class.

at 12:56 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

"He got two from Juco and only one top-flight recruit, Malcolm White. Everyone else was roster fill."

7 new players, and he is doing what with the team?

UC has 5 seniors who are in the second year of his system.

When some of you get a brain and can deduce, you'll see who is the better coach.

Unreal the limited capacity of some posters.

at 1:20 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yeah, like yourself. If you love AK so much move to Mississippi with the other dregs. Make a stopover to Morgantown while you're at it.

at 1:32 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Here's an idea for all you Kennedy and Huggins supporters. Why not get the best UC Coach of all time? he did a lot better that K or H. He won 2 national championships and almost got the third. His name is ......George Smith!! Oh, wait, he's dead. Give it up with this Kennedy and Huggins talk. This board is really tiring and excessively negative. I guess the only positive I can find here is that a lot of people care about UC. If you look at the NCAA/XU board, there are very few posts. Nobody seems to care. Same with calls to Sports Talk shows.

I do wish the webmaster or Koch would require that a nickname be used. I would just skip over some of the idiots on this board. Until that is done I am not going to waste my time here.

Great! Goodbye!

at 2:00 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Exactly 12:56!

He has all those new players (including JUCOs) and supposed lack of talent yet is 16-4 and has one of the BEST scoring offenses in the country.

Can someone explain why Mick couldn't get that caliber of shooter to lead to a 16-4 record so quickly??? Anyone?

at 2:37 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Muskie guy says - Ed Jucker was the Bearcat coach that won two NCAA championships in 61, 62. His third final in 63 resulted in a loss to Loyola of Chicago.

George Smith coached Oscar but never won NCAA tourney.

Jucker also coached at Rollins College in Winter Park Fla where he retired after leaving UC.

Jucker unlike some modern day BB coaches was class personified. He passed away a few yrs ago.

at 7:14 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

We wouldn't be in this mess if NanZi had just 'hired Andy'

AK and Huggins will have their teams in the NCAA tourney this year, while the Bearcats will be lucky to make the NIT.

at 9:52 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

UC = UNLV East

...Or maybe not - UNLV has cleaned up its act, has a winning record, & has made the NCAA tourney last year.
