Mauk saga

Apparently there will be no decision today on Ben Mauk, but Brian Kelly says it won't be long now.

"We have heard from the NCAA and they are actively on it," Kelly said. "We have to supply a little bit more information but this seems to be imminent. This thing is hot right now."

That actually sounds like there is some hope. I would really be surprised though.

All of the focus put on Mauk is very troublesome. If the Bearcats had ANY faith in the QB candidates who might take over next year, they would not be trying so hard to get another year out of Mauk. That, in and of itself is a problem.
Still, I understand that in order to be fair to a young man who has served the team well, the University must advocate for him and exshaust any and all outlets to give him the chance to play further.
But, from a "big picture" perspective, is the University's persistence in this matter really prudent and beneficial to the team? I wonder also wonder what it says about the quality of those who may start at QB next year and beyond.
As much as I love Ben Mauk, admire his leadership, and am truly grateful for his contributions in bringing the UC footbll program to prominence, I am becoming a bit concerned as to the mark that his eligibility conflict will leave on the team.
I just feel like this getting to be like an Al Gore "counting" every vote type of situation, and I am not convinced of the good it will do in the end.
