UC wins again in Big East tourney

No. 2 seed UC knocked off South Florida Wednesday night, 11-1 in seven innings, scoring 10 runs in the last three innings to support Michael Hill, who allowed one run in seven innings. Having won their first two games, the Bearcats will be off Thursday, then will play in the semifinals at 1 p.m. Friday vs. the winner of Thursday's game between USF and West Virginia. The Bearcats' cause was helped Wednesday when No. 1 seed St. John's lost to Villanova, 12-0, eliminating the Red Storm. UC is now 38-19.

It's exciting to see UC baseball making great strides. Coach Cleary has toiled under the radar for many years at UC. Now, with great new facilities to work with, UC baseball is definitely moving up in the national picture.
First football, then baseball. The big challenge awaiting, of course, is basketball. Hopefully the groundwork has been laid for future success there. Time will tell.
In the meantime, UC athletics is enjoying an upswing.
Best of luck this weekend. Go Cats!

Way to go Bearcats !

UC will have to beat either WVU or USF one more time in order to advance. In fact, I believe the way this bracket works they will get two chances to get one victory, which puts them in pretty good shape. Just got to keep it up.

Louisville is looking strong in the other grouping, and is shaping up to be our opponent for the Championship.

38-19

Great record, and I'm truly pleased for the baseball team, but it raises a red flag for me. That is 57 games, all of them during spring. How could this not affect academics?!

I ask because of an acquaintance who played for our state's biggest school, but who was also a pre-med student. (He's now a doctor.)

He said that when he objected to the schedule's impact on his study time that he was told to choose.

By the time this is done that's 60 games. Basketball has 32 or so, but it stretches from fall to spring.

What do you think, Bill?

It is really sad that news of UC's success in the BEAST baseball tourney is relegated to the blogs.

If the VOLS were in the same position in the SEC it would be the sports page lead story here in Knoxville.

I suppose when you have such highly successful pro teams such as the Reds and the Bengals you just don't have space for news of the Bearcats' championship run. How very sad.

Outstanding! Just curious... I know UC wants the automatic bid, but is there a chance for an at-large if they don't win the tourney?
They have a nice record and the NCAA Tourney expanded a few years back.... Hope they win the BE but if not I hope they get a chance to dance!

Yes - it is sad. But lucky for us the local media are giving us daily updates on Odell Thurman, a player that is not even on the Bengals anymore.

UC fans fought for years to get football covered.

Baby steps.

P.S. I'm not dissing Bill on this one. His hands are tied and we appreciate the blog updates.

I think it is pathetic the lack of coverage of the University of Cincinnati athletics by the Enquirer. I live out of town and have to rely on the online edition for any UC news. For two days the UC baseball team is doing great in the Big East Tournament and for two days the only thing written is a one short paragraph blog. And this is perhaps the greatest team they have ever had in their history.

Please get with the program and support your local university.

Thank you,

Vernon Tabor
