Football update
UC wide receiver Marcus Barnett, who broke his leg (fibula) during the PapaJohn’s.com Bowl on Dec. 22, remains on crutches after undergoing surgery on Dec. 24 to insert a steel plate. According to Brian Kelly, the injury will keep him sidelined for three months, which means he'll miss spring practice.
Quarterback Ben Mauk also underwent surgery to clean out scar tissue from his first surgery in the fall of 2006. “It’s taken away some of the impingement that he had,” Kelly said. “He can feel the difference already.”
Kelly said that UC could submit the appeal to get another year of elgibility for Mauk as early as Monday.
Kelly, who signed a letter of agreement on Dec. 17 that extends his contract through the 2012 season hasn’t signed the actual contract yet. His contract is on the agenda for the Jan. 29 Board of Trustees meeting. Presumably he’ll sign it then.

That's too bad that Marcus won't be at spring practice but maybe it will be a blessing in that younger guys will get more PT. I have VERY little doubt that Marcus will be our #1 WR in 2008.
I really hope that Mauk gets the extra year - it seems fair that he would.

Why didn't UC offer this guy a long time ago...apparently he actually runs a 4.45 and is from Dayton...Nebraska wants him bad and it looks like OSU is going to offer. UC hasn't even looked at him and probably could have had them if they were on the trail months ago. These are the types of battles we have to win!

Apparently you have this kid rated higher than scout, rivals or the UC FB staff. Do you know something that the rest of us don't?
When is the spring game?
Mauk had an excellent season, but isnt there a lot more to talk about in that area?
Spring game is probably around spring time.
annon 1:02am - what are you referring to?
Yes, the kids has sick potential and is an amazing athlete. Apparently Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Nebraska agree. Why would OU and Nebraska offer this kid and UC not even sniff in his direction? He is from freaking Dayton.
