No comment from Brian Kelly

I talked to Brian Kelly this afternoon. He said that due to privacy issues he could not comment on the Terrill Byrd situation other than to say that the matter would be handled internally. He said that under UC's athletic department drug policy, an athlete who tests positive for drugs the first time is automatically suspended for 10 percent of his team's games. He said all of UC's football players have been tested, but could not discuss individual results of those tests.

Bill, tell me you asked him if any of his players would be missing 10% of the games. Then you'd know. Easiest follow-up question, ever.

Good. Simpson and Byrd turn themselves in, make bail, pay the fines and miss the first two games next season.

Why is this even a topic? Anyone with half a brain knows he is not able to comment yet. Not that he will not comment.

This is a team issue and should be dealt with inhouse. Just like they do over on the Parkway (Finn).

If this terrible offense against humanity (LOL) was committed by a basketball player, we would have 50 comments by now berating Mick Cronin.

Simpson isn't a Bearcat and never will be. His playing days have past.

I thought all of this type of situation would end after Nancy forced Huggins out.

This one happened on Nancy's watch and it's time for her to go!!!

No need to wait for the court system to work. Our blogging legal scholars have this case well in hand. Even fired Nancy

Ummm....I was not a math major, but 10% of 13 (games) is 1.3 games. Round down and he missed one game (EKU). Keep it at 1.3 and he misses the EKU game and the first quarter at Oklahoma?

I have no idea how BK will handle the situation, but dont you think if there is a way he can play against Oklahoma, then we will see him on the field at some point???

That tremendous wooshing sound you hear is Nancy sweeping this under the rug along with that sex tape!

These players who have been getting in trouble were recruited under Dantonio and Steger, not Zimpher and Kelly. Expect things to change.

with the demise of BB at UC, i took refuge in FB. Now Byrd is determined to screw that up too.

Smoking pot, in my view, shouldn't be a crime at all (unless driving under the influence).
I would imagine, though, that this is a violation of university policy. So the suspension is inevitable and justified.
Not showing up for court, though, is another matter. That's inexcusable.

the athletic dept. & BK need to do everything in their powers to keep Byrd on the field... they can hang Simpson out to dry for all i care.

even if they have to make-up a new rule, which lays out a more forgiving penalty (the same way they did for Darnell Burton back in '96), they must do it and act fast.

if sleezy SEC programs like Tennecheat & LSU can do the same things, so can we. it's just a little curious that Les Miles will not kick Ryan Perriloux off the team - who recently committed his 3rd major rules violation.

we're in a BCS conference now... we need to adopt loosey-goosey BCS disciplinary guidelines, and vigilantly stick to them.

Gee correct my memory if I am mistaken. Wasn't DeAntonio hired during the Zimpher reign?

Isn't she supposed to require the same set of standards from all her coaches, not just the ones she has a personalty problem with.

Byrd/Simspon can't be pinned on DeAntonio since he had the good sense to leave her domain as soon as possible.

Therefore we can only look to Nancy for accountability, preferrably the same accoutability she held Huggins to. Now Huggins has gone on and after leading Cincinnati to 14 straight dances, picked up where he left off with K-State and now WV.

Seems to me we got rid of the wrong UC employee.

Sorry dude--Byrd was recruited and has played ENTIRELY under Nancy's watch...

You need to work on those timelines a little more extensively...

Whether you drink smoking pot should be a crime or not is pointless here. The fact is that it is currently a crime and they did it anyways.

I would really love to hear what Kerry Coombs has to say since more and more of his players seem to be getting arrested. They may not all be currently under his watch, but this type of behavior didn't just start when they arrived in college. You have to wonder what all he swept under the rug for these guys while they were in high school.

Sorry, I missed the news story where Nancy puked all over the side of her Lexus.

"Fire Nancy"

You guys are all idiots. How about you recognize the good things that she has done? In case you aren't aware, applicants for the incoming freshman class are up 44% over ONE YEAR. This university is going through a massive make-over. Sorry that we would rather have a decent person in Mick Cronin rather than a drunk in Bob Huggins. I'm actually looking forward to seeing a graduating basketball player. Furthermore, I'm looking forward to Mick taking our program to the dance within the next two years. He has only had one legitimate recruiting year, and as most Cincinnati fans DON'T know, it takes time to rebuild. So before you throw Mick under a train, give him a minute to work.

Seriously though? You think Nancy has a single minute to look at the type of people her coaches recruit? That woman has more on her plate in a day than most of you will have in a lifetime. Sorry that she is a good leader and takes time to delegate power to her subordinates. You can't expect every recruit to be a standout guy (especially if he is from Colerain's 04-05 team apparently). What you should expect is that our coaches try their best.

Get off Nancy's back and bite your tongue, if you do I promise it will taste better than the crow you would be served otherwise within the next few years.

Your crap is way off base on KC. If you knew anything about colerain hs under KC you knew he took a ghetto program and made it into a national powerhouse with TOUGH DISCIPLINE. No players were cut breaks. Actually game suspensions were common. Ask anybody who knows any facts about KC and colerain during his coaching. What a cheap lie by you.

Sorry, I missed the news story where Nancy puked all over the side of her Lexus.

But did you see the story where Nancy puked all over the alumni?

It was pretty grotesque--moreso than anything Bob did...

Pathetic how the conversation of a 21 year old college student caught smoking a joint in his own home turns into a Huggins V Zimpher rant.

Nice job, haters...

Bingo 6:23pm.
I was a private school kid but observed Combs as a disciplinarian who sat or cut problem players.

No players were cut breaks?

Maybe not on the football field but most definitely within the school. What a joke.

Anon 3:54pm...i'll leave it to you to find and define academic standards within the public school system. Good Luck in your search for academic excellence and standards of differentiation within an inferior performing government/public system. Let me know what you discover.
