Two big questions
As the snow continues to fall, two key questions come to mind:
Question No. 1: Will our flight to Hartford tonight go as planned so that we can arrive in time for tomorrow afternoon's 4 p.m. game vs. UConn?
Question No. 2: Will UC win another game this season? They way they've played lately the answer to Question No. 2 would seem to be no. If anything, UC is getting worse offensively as the season nears the end. If they lose to UConn, as expected, and then lose in the first round of the Big East Tournament next week, they would finish up on a 6-game losing streak, which would be a really terrible way to end what once was such a promising season.
Here's hoping that Nick Aldridge, Cashmere Wright, Yancy Gates, Mike Williams and Dion Dixon can put the ball in the basket next season because it's really hard to watch a team that can't score.

The fact that they are getting worse offensively is very obvious. But how about defensively. There is basically no defense and very, very little effort. There is yet a third question:
Question No. 3: Does Mick Cronin have any influence on this team?
If he can't control and coach this mid-major group of wannabes and is essentially ignored by them, how on earth is he going to influence real D-1 BB players?
Yes, UC will at least one game in the Big East Tournament. Next years team will be a lot better, and then the year after that as well. The Big East is a difficult conference, next year UC will have more talent and probably win 8-10 league games; however, the non-conference record will be better. I would not be suprised by 17 to 20 wins next year. This team will next year will be a bubble team in 09 and a tourny lock in 2010.
1) You better hope they delay the flight.
2) We thought this year's new players would develop and contibute.
I'm really seeing a lot more apathy in talking UC basketball. Once proud, now a shell.
Thank you Bill for stating the facts. It is very hard to watch a team that can not put the ball in the basket. I have being saying that all year long. I too hope that the newcomers can put the ball in the basket but after the fiasco this season, I will believe it when I see it.
This team is only marginally better than last year's. Which I have also stated repeatedly. Mick Cronin, coach of the year, yeah right. Haven't heard that one for a game or so.
Not one to say I told you so, but it looks like Cheviot Sports Authority knows what he is talking about after all, doesn't it.
ST CSA
Bill, are you FINALLY, FINALLY going to ask Mick to respond to the concern some hold about his ability to build an offense. And also why we should feel good about the team's offense next year??
You need to ask him the tough questions after tomorrow's loss.
Please.
Bill, as a fan, the UC BB program is an exercise in exhaustion and humiliation, for a recently proud program. I've nothing pithy left to write.
I'm starting to think putting an emphasis on Williamson getting the ball has put UC on the wrong track and kind of skewed with Vaughn's game. I'm glad to see Williamson doing well, but when the offense was going through Deonta, UC was kind of winning. I think they can win another game. At least they get to play in the tournament. Small goals gents. Small goals.
There is such a thing as scouting, by now everyone knows who to stop (2 players) and how to do it, especially at crunch time. A concentrated offense just doesn't work. Just ask the LA Lakers.
I apologize for the delay in posting comments today. I was under the impression that they were being posted by someone else and obviously they weren't. My bad.
"Here's hoping that Nick Aldridge, Cashmere Wright, Yancy Gates, Mike Williams and Dion Dixon can put the ball in the basket next season because it's really hard to watch a team that can't score."
Does the coach have no responsibility? Or do we have a whole 'nother year of Mick getting a free pass. Last year they weren't good and we got three stories a week saying, "It's not Mick's fault." And now, it's the players that can't score -- i.e. "It's not Mick's fault!"
Never Mick's fault -- the official Enquirer stand, because he Mick gets the "hometown boy" pass. Maybe it's the same reason we always have to read crap about Hometown Boy Nick Lachey. Or Pete Rose. If you're born in Hamilton County, you can never do wrong!
Mick is the greatest coach EVAR!
It's not Mick's fault!
The cats may beat Uconn by 20 tomorrow. Mick has the boys on the right track and things will only get better. He was the right man for the job!
The REAL Sippin' Mick Moniker Maker
Here's hoping that Scotty Hopson committs to UC.
Here are some truths...
UC has very little basketball talent and only one offensive threat on the team.
UC has very little basketball intelligence among the members of the team, maybe no one on the floor with a real basketball brain.
The coaches are only as good as the players. Until talent picks up this is what we are going to get.
A sizable portion of Cincinnati basketball fans are bitter and are content to just shoot off criticism, finding a cowardly home on this blog. My name is Charlie Culp. Drop me a note anytime to talk about UC hoops. I would love to see some of the gutless people who pop off here without letting anyone know who they are express themselves and sign their names. That will never happen because they are cowards.
I just hope that Scotty Hopson hasn't been watching how great UC has been on TV. Then we still have that one chance he'll play for Sippin'. One chance in a million...
See above for a typical Cincinnati fan comment - a guy who wishes that a five star player decides to NOT play at UC.
If UC wins, I cant sit back and whine about the past. Woe woe woe is me. What will I do then?
This blog should be re-titled Musings from a bunch of revisionist twits.
Or Scotty Hopson can read this blog and the numerous demeaning remarks about Coach Cronin and his basketball players. One chance in 5 million. Shot yourself in the foot.
The Shadow Knows,
It is not wise to put one's ID on the internet. There are too many reports saying that.
If you say that folks should use a registered account name, then fine. I'm with you. Such names can be monitored and managed by a blog moderator.
But, you are simply wrong to encourage folks to broadcast their actual ID. For all anyone knows, those who request it could themselves be running a scam.
This blog should be re-titled Musings from a bunch of revisionist twits.
Oh Charlie...I think YOUR blog should bear that title. You complain about people bi$ching and moaning--and your blog is one long left-wing diatribe. Bitter is as bitter does...
BTW--what is your magic solution for jumpstarting the economy?
(let me guess)
1. Tax the rich.
2. Erect trade barriers.
3. Destroy the oil companies.
4. Amnesty for illegal immigrants.
Methinks the pot calleth the kettle black.
One question for you...do you support the current University Administration? If so, please justify the denigrating remarks made by the University President at the expense of former alumni...
And...no...I'm not going to identify myself (I don't want a bitter lawyer coming after me for exercising my free speech rights)
I await your "wisdom"
Hopefully the Cats can't make the trip. If they make it to Hartford they are going to lose by 30 points. Mick has this team regressing. Mick does not know how to teach offense, Bill is at least finally taking note of that. Two more losses for the cats. At least BIll is starting to see Mick can't coach, now the rest of bearcat nation needs to admit it.

Hey Bill, you moderate this blog so lets hear what you have to say. One thing that we all agree on is that you fail to give you opinion on Mick, so why not belly up to the bar and chime in. This comment will never make it to the blog and Bill will never pop out an opinion.
