Clarification

It wouldn't have mattered if Mauk protested his redshirt year in 2003 or not. According to the NCAA bylaw that Mauk was caught under, "a redshirt year is considered within the control of the student-athlete and/or the institution." In other words, whether Mauk wanted to be redshirted or not - and he clearly didn't - the fact that Wake Forest wanted to redshirt him precluded the year from being considered "a missed participation opportunity." Sorry for any confusion.

The alternative to redshirting his freshman year would have been to be on the roster and not play. That would have used up a year of eligibility. There really is very little argument that can be made in his favor here.

question, what happenned to the big time recruit from Dayton?

Domminick Britt from Dayton backed out of his commitment before signing day after Dem. Jones transferred and Brandan Kay/Travis Kelce verballed. I don't think he wanted to compete for the spot, which means he probably wasn't going to ever win it.

Bill,
Now that we know the Mauk decision, what is the expected decision on Mike Williams? Will his transfer year count just like Mauk's redshirt year, or are transfer years counted differently? Should we only expect to see Williams for 1 season?

Looks like the UC Pussycats will be lucky to make the Papajohns.com Bowl again next season!

Meanwhile, the rest of Ohio will be cheering for their Ohio State Buckeyes.
