Mauk decision coming this week

According to Brian Kelly, UC expects to receive a decision from the NCAA this week on whether quarterback Ben Mauk will be granted another year of eligibility to play next year. Kelly said the decision could come as early as Wednesday, but by Thursday at the latest.

It seems to me that he should get that year, but I doubt that the NCAA will see it that way. Sure would be welcome though.

Good luck Ben Mauk. Not much else to say but it is
nice to see a post not filled with childish rants.

Oh they're coming, just wait. Listening to BK last night, it seems like he has put a lot of thought into Grutza being his qb. Hopefully the NCAA will not hold it against him that Ben took advantage of the Graduate school rule.

Not holding my breath seeing how the NCAA already closed the loopehole that allowed him to play this year...Mauk showed me a lot and it'd be great to see him back, though...

One question:

Does anyone know of one single time that the NCAA has EVER ruled in favor of a request from UC?

Hopefully, they will this time, let's hope so!

Regarding 4:01's comments:

I think we are way past due for a favorable ruling. I doubt if we get it.

Anon 4:09,

I really like Mauk's perseverence. Many would have hung up their helmet and called it a career. Hopefully, another year will be granted for him. There's always the exception that proves the rule. Maybe this will be one!

didn't we get a favorable ruling on a hoops player this year?

I'm not aware of a favorable ruling on a hoops player, but we may have gotten one on Adam H.

I think he means Darnell Wilks.

The great thing that everyone seems to be overlooking is that if Ben is granted another year, he will finish college with a Bachelor Degree and two Masters.

How many atheletes can say that? Well, there was a middle distance runner named Johnson back in the 80's that earned his PhD.

Is the basis of the request that Mauk played just one portion of one half in the year of the injury that took him out for the remainder of the season?

If the NCAA were concerned with the best interests of the player, they'd rule in favor of Mauk.

If the NCAA were concerned with precedent, then they'd have to nail down exactly how much play in a season can take place before a player is credited with that season.

Is it one quarter, one half, one whole game, 2 games, less than 50% of games?

I can see them saying that suiting up equals game. It would just be easier to manage.

How about all the bench warmers who've never stepped on the field? Should they have games counted....after all, they've never played even one minute.

The injury or illness occurs when the student-athlete has not participated in more than two contests or dates of competition (whichever is applicable to that sport) or 20 percent (whichever number is greater) of the institution's completed scheduled contests or dates of competition in his or her sport. Only scheduled competition (excluding scrimmages and exhibition contests) against outside participants during the playing season that concludes with the NCAA championship, or, if so designated, during the official NCAA championship playing season in that sport (e.g., spring baseball, fall soccer), shall be countable under this limitation in calculating both the number of contests or dates of competition in which the student-athlete has participated and the number of completed contests or dates of competition during that season in the sport.

Grutza did a great job in the games he played last year, earning another Big East player of the week. My question is, if Mauk is allowed back, can he transfer with any eligibility remaining?
