Nine from the Big East?
For what it's worth, and it's probably not worth much, The Washington Post attempted to seed the NCAA Tournament field today. The paper has nine Big East teams getting in. I suppose I don't need to mention that UC is not one of them. The nine, with their seed in parenthesis: Georgetown (3), Connecticut (3), Louisville (4), Notre Dame (5), Pittsburgh (7), Marquette (6), West Virginia (11), Syracuse (11), Villanova (12). Of course, UC has beaten Louisville, Pitt, West Virginia, Syracuse and Villanova. I understand why Mick Cronin did what he did last week when he began to campaign for his team as an NCAA at-large team, but the odds against that happening were - and still are - formidable. Jamual Warren's injury notwithstanding, they simply had too much ground to make up after their 5-7 non-conference start.

UC left out!
This is a OUTRAGE!
To Steve in ref to the last thread:
Perhaps 'stinks' is overstating it a bit. Mediocre is probably a better term. Either one is not acceptable to me as I can remember when getting into the NCAA was never a question, it was how far can we go?
The Mick lovers are always jibbering something about over-achieving. What bothers me is the way the freshmen are under-achieving. The endless excuses are just annoying but actually meaningless.
It would be surprising for any conference to have nine teams in the Big Dance. Conceivable, but I don't think it will happen.
Interesting thing about the list is that all nine of those teams have something in common. Each has a respected, established coach and although the selection committee would never admit it, that is a factor that comes into play, at least a bit. Someday, hopefully UC will have that situation again.
UC needs to win out, or win 3 and 2in big east tourney to make the NCAA tournament. 9 teams are not going to make it. ND, U of L, Georgetown, and UConn are locks. Marquette should be in but thier conference schedule down the strech is brutal. WVU needs to win 3 or 4 to feel safe. Pitt is in trouble and will probably finish 9-9 in the league. Villonova is the same situation as well. Syracuse needs to win out as well. Seton Hall needs to win out. Basically you have 11 teams that still could make the dance. UC and Seton Hall need to win out/or win two or three in the conference tournament. The top four are safe and everybody else is probably going to need a victory in the conference tournament and a storng finish.
BE gets 7 for sure - Gtown, Uconn, Louiv, Marq, ND and Pitt.
On bubble - W.Va, Vilanova
Not in - Syracuse
In CBI - UC. They're 4-8 on road and should end regular season 4-9 or 4-10 on road and overall 16-14 or 15-15.
For the future good news for Bearcats is if they can avg. 20 wins/year and in top half of BE very good chance they'll regularly go to NCAA tourney.
We have too many losses to be considered and some of them were against really weak opponents. Next year we'll be better.
No chance UC makes the "real" tournament, or likely even the second fiddle tournament. Be proud they have the CHANCE to be guinea pigs in the CBI (huh? equivalent to the pizza bowl?).
The view looks good from Victory Parkway.
Anon 5:41:
Dustin has a blog for you eggsavior fans. We'll see how far you go against teams from real (BCS) conferences. It must really hurt inside knowing that you are viewed as mid-major by the entire nation and ALWAYS will be.
At least we have a football team at UC. Oh, that's right. You do also - it's called intramurals.
As for the papajohns.com bowl, it's 10 levels higher than the new Whatever It Is Called tournament. Better just to stay home.
Anon 5:41 maybe you can give us pointers on the best way to approach the lesser tournaments. X has plenty of experience. We're fairly new at that.
And CSA, haven't heard from you the last couple weeks. Funny how you show up the day we play and lose to a top team. Could you please go back into hiding. It was much better without you.
CSA, IMHO this team HAS overachieved, at least in the conference. I really don't believe that you or I would have thought they would win 8 games throughout the conference schedule, much less at this point. As to whether this is because of Sippin' or in spite of him, let the Mick Lovers and Mick Haters debate. - Your Buddy
csa You talk about the freshman under-achieving what do you call what UC did in those years there was never a question about getting into the NCAA? To answer your question how far they could go 2 words SECOND ROUND. When you think about it objectivly something you say Mick supporters fail to do 14 trips to the NCAA seems impressive (even though it was because we played in such a weak conference with little competion) but only 4 trips past the second round not so much. I guess I don't understand your defination of mediocre & what your willing to accpet. Maybe its 28% you 4 out of 14.
Anon 7:59,
It's easy to understand your frustration about getting past the second round so seldom. I likewise found it to be that way. But at least we got there and going out early couldn't always be blamed on the conference. Do you believe that Memphis, still in weak Conference USA, will be going out in the second round? Could happen, but not very likely.
On the other side of the coin, how many years do you believe it will be until the Bearcats are even back in the Big Dance?
UC can make NCAA if they win BE tourney.
Bill,
9 from the Big East? Highly doubtful. I see 6, maybe 7.
Personally, though, I don't really care how many make it from ANY of the conferences. I guess the debate may be interesting to some looking for bragging rights, but the committee as you know looks at INDIVIDUAL teams -- not conferences.
Maybe it's because neither X or UC is part of the "bubble watch" this year, but I don't recall a year when I had less interest in what teams manage to sneak into the tournament.
Other than a few teams who clearly deserve an at-large bid, we seem to have a huge group of slightly above average teams in a squishy morass hovering at the margin -- almost all of whom will be "one and done" in the tourney. I find it hard to get excited about any of them.
It's going to be hard for anyone not picked to scream "FOUL" this year.

This is one of the things that I really do not like about "moderation", the sometimes loooooong delays before comments are posted. I posted a comment on another thread last night and at 8:00 AM it is still not posted. Hope all you moderation lovers are happy!
And I know the few thin skinned folks who desire moderation protection will come back at me with their quaint arguments.
9:42 anon Very good shot for next year & to qoute the almighty CSA without question the following year.
It is clear that the Bearcats are a year away from the 'big dance.' But i really don't understand everybody's value in going to the tournament. Okay, it's nice to go to some lame duck town to watch the bearcats win one game, and its over. It sucked going to the second round every year and never going beyond. At least with the NIT (and hopefully the CBI) we get a few more home games against competitive teams. Sounds like a winning situation for everybody as long as we don't have a realistic shot of winning the national championship (that would be the point of the big dance, after all, in case we forgot that since 1992.)
Why do Xavier fans troll our blog and feel it necessary to make comments? In under two seasons, Mick has brought UC to the tournament talk, despite having nothing when he got here, the only talk about Sean Miller's coaching ability (questionable anyway) revolves around when he's gonna bolt. But the facts speak for themselves: an A10 team has not been to the final four since 1996, and that was a 29-1 UMass team. On the road the muskies are shaky, at best. For a school with 1/15th our endowment, you guys sure talk big.
b.m.a.j.,
You seem slightly more optimistic than I do about UC making it to the Big Dance by next year. I hope that you're right though. In my opinion, there's still too many question marks starting with the point guard and center positions. Also, Vaughn seems either intimidated or disinterested in road games. We'll have to see how things shake out next year.
As for the little sister 'x' trolls, they deserve a little pity. Poor little fellas are terribly pained by the fact that the entire nation views them as mid-major and ALWAYS will. It's a difficult thing for them to have to live with. And, if that isn't bad enough, their football team hasn't won a game in decades!
UC has a shot - a long one, but it's still there. His Warren arguement is valid - UC is left out because of Kirkland's injury.
But if UC could win out the season and probably pick up two wins in the Big East tourney - they should get some consideration. Granted that's a tough six games, but who would have thought in December they would have gone into West Virginia and won by 23?
Teh Big East will get 6 teams in the NCAA tourney which is what it should be.
Why do Xavier fans troll our blog and feel it necessary to make comments?
Same reason some UC fans do the same thing on Dustin's blog, and the same reason you also see also see trolling from OSU and UK fans here.
Some people are just wired to be annoying.
Anon 10:23 am--- Be will get a minimum of 7 with outside shot of 9 LIKELY 8 will go.
4:04 Great league, but will UC be there?
No, the UC Bearcats will be watching as the Xavier University Musketeers get a #2 or #3 seed on "Selection Sunday."
UC will be lucky to make the Not-In-Tournament, despite all the bluster from Cronin AKA "the mouse that roared."
GO MUSKIES!
