UC 52, USF 51 -postgame

Sorry for the inconvenience, but the Blogger function went down late in the game and this is the first chance I've had to get back to it after making first-edition deadline.

It certainly wasn't a great win for UC by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, the Bearcats almost suffered the indignity of being the first Big East team to lose to USF at home. But they weren't.

“In the courses of a season you have to win sometimes when you’re terrible on offense,” Cronin said. “We dug down and gutted out a win. Sometimes you’ve got to do that."

His offensive limitations aside, Hrycaniuk did a great job on Gransberry, who was held to seven points.

“Jamual (Warren) gets a lot of credit for being a great role payer for us,” Cronin said. “I wish Adam would get the same amount of credit for what he does. That’s by far the best anybody has done against (Gransberry) all year.”

Chevidiot Sports Authority I hope you witnessed Adam H holding Gransberry to 7 points after he went for 26 points 16 rebounds and 6 blocks against UConn. You truly are the authority.

Great win, go cats, make it to the postseason.

UC scored more than USF...USF has played better of late. A nice win. No extra points for style, eh? Sikes was key. Nice to see Vaughn bounce back with big baskets too.

13-12 (8-5)

Adam H would get a lot of credit right now if he wasnt SO FREAKING AWFUL at the end of the game:

1. He fouled Gransberry 93 feet away from the basket with 37 seconds left and UC up 3.

2. He threw the ball away with UC up 1 and 34 seconds left.

3. He badly missed the front end of a one and one with UC up 1 and 12 seconds left. He is a pretty good foul shooter too. He choked badly there.

If UC would have lost, it would have been completely Adam H's fault.

Bad game, but great win tonight. I hope the arena can fill up for the last two home games - it would be a nice way to send our team to Garden.

The Senator will be in attendance again next week.

Right it down Bill, UC beat Georgetown by 4 on Saturday.

It is a W! I think Adam stole somebodys girlfriend.

Adam still deserves a lot of credit for the win. He just decided to make it interesting at the end. ;-)

ADAM H IS A STIFF

I'M TIRED OF HIS SOFT EUROPEAN PLAY

at 11:33 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Soft European play? By saying that do you mean hustling, rebounding and playing some great low post defense. He held a guy that went off on UConn for 26 pts. 16 rebounds and 6 blocks to 7 points. He also played #1 Memphis' Dorsey as well as anyone has this year.

His play secured the game for us even though he made it interesting in the end.

Soft, I don't think so. Not confident in himself and his shot, probably, but not soft, the guy can bench 315 lbs. How much can you bench anon 11:07???

What an awful game. Just awful. I feel sorry for the 7,000 or so fans who showed up to watch it.

Tonight's game is what it looks like when the bottom feeders of the Big East play each other. Way to get the guys ready, Mick!

Bill....any mention on attendance??

Awful game? Which game were you watching one of Xavier's games where they give up a 16 point lead to barely win against top notch St. Louis or Rhodie Island?

Did you even watch the game? They held a guy who just went off on UConn to the tune of 26 points 16 rebounds and 6 blocks to 7 points.

That bottom feeder just lost to the hottest team in the country by 1 point and had the game won at UConn. Another bottom feeder Rutgers lost to ND which is ranked in the top 20 by 3. The obvious bottom feeder game was the one on TV tonight, Marquette whipping up on St. Johns who is an obvious bottom feeder.

There are no easy games in the BEast, you have to bring it every night.

Pretty sad performance...but it was a win.

Seems Sippin' Mick didn't get the team prepared for this one on the offensive end. Sounds like he did good work on having the players work on stopping Gransberry, but his offensive strategy again left much to be desired.

Why can't Vaughn and Williamson have good games at the same time? I think Mick needs to mix up his offensive sets more.

UC is in 6th place in the Big East with an 8-5 conference record and wins over Louisville, Syracuse, Villanova, Pittsburgh and West Virginia.

There are 16 teams in the Big East.

No one with a brain would call them a conference bottom feeder.

I dont know how to be any more clear.

The Cats too often play to the level of their competition. It's a very common problem for many young teams, and it's something Bearcat fans have seen from various Bearcats teams for years. It's certainly nothing to get upset about when they're able to manage at least 1 more point than the other team.

A very ugly win tonight.

This team was lethargic. I think long breaks between games hurt a team rather than help it. It was lazy on offense and defense the first 10 minutes. Clearly, someone had slipped them some sominex.

While his defense was good, Hyrcaniuk looked absolutely lost every time he got the ball in his hands. He is definitely afraid of making a mistake with it.

A 1 point home win against lowly USF is a loss according to Sagarin.

A rational person knows it says something about the relative strength of this team.

While I'd love to see Vaughn and Williamson have a great game on the same night, I still enjoyed being there tonight. Looking forward to the next one :)

11:34 -

I was one of them in attendance. Don't feel sorry for me. It was a great game to see in person. Folks staying at home are missing one of the most entertaining seasons of watching games in the Shoe in 7 years, IMO.

Adam H. plays good defense. He can set a pick and roll. I have to agree with those statements. That's all just swell. He also almost singlehandedly lost the game tonight. He can't make a bunny. He made two boneheaded mistakes in the closing moments. Chuck M. called one of them the "dumbest play of the game." And, he missed BOTH free throws. How many of you wish he was with the team for another three years? The fact that he's even here is a statement is to just how good? this team is. I have to wonder what the tone of all these happy about Adam H. comments would be had the Bearcats LOST the game last night.

at 8:19 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Not a great win for the Bearcats but still a win, altho it looked like MC's crew tried to give it away in final few minutes.

When you look at the season overall and UC's record in BE it's obvious that the team has improved.

Also obvious that other than the top six BE teams ranked in top 25 the rest of the league is mediocre, as only 8 of 16 teams have more league wins than losses and six teams without overall winning record. Lotta bottom feeders.

Would be huge upset if Bearcats could win at GTown - but don't bet on it. Still predicting UC overall regular season of 15-15.

at 8:21 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

The good news is the NCAA ruling last year left us with only one year to suffer watching Adam H.

UC certainly plays to the level of the competition. Almost losing at home to USF yet beating WV and UL on the road.

It has been an entertaining season so far, much better than expected. UC should end up with at least 10 wins in the Big East. Go Cats, can't wait until the football season.

at 8:56 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Tough game in the Big East conference, the most difficult conference in the country. Adam H does not get enough credit from the basketball hacks on this blog who have obvious lack of understanding. Adam's defense was worth at least 10 points in this game. Without Adam's defense, UC lose this game. He played the best defense against Gransberry this year. You can be critical of his offense if you want but he has been a large part of UC's current 6th place in the most difficult conference in college basketball. If you don't think its tough, go talk to Bob Huggins.

at 9:06 AM Blogger Bcbdub said...

Adam H certainly tried everything in his power to hand the game over to USF during the final minute.

The foul, the turnover, the missed FT's...

I feel sorry for the kid, but it's almost laughable.

at 9:23 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Anon 8:19 are you stupid? "as only 8 of 16 teams have more league wins than losses and six teams without overall winning record." Usually in any conference the bottom half will have more losses than wins. It's pretty much basic math if you have a losing conference record you're in the bottom half of the standings. I just thought this was common sense but I guess not?

I agree ugly win by the Bearcats but a W is a W and hopefully they can regroup against Georgetown and gain some momentum for the rest of their games.

LOL!!!

When half the teams lose every game while the other half wins (in EVERY conference!)...i'd say that's just about what one would expect from every conference.

I'd take another season of Adam H in a heartbeat. Put the guy at his true position: the 4 rather than the 5, and play him off the bench where there isn't so much pressure, and you've got a solid role player.

at 9:33 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

I know this isn't the popular view amoung most people, but UC still has a chance to get in the Big Dance. If they win three of their final five games, they'll end up with a decent seed in the Big East tournament. And let's not forget, they have beaten Louisville, Pittsburgh and West Virginia and they took UConn to the wire.

If they can slip into the top four in the Big East Standings, anything is possible.

at 9:43 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

This was an ugly win. even uglier than most. The magic number for the bearcats is 65. If they hold the opponent to 65 or less they win (with a few exceptions). Lets hold Gtown to 65 and I give the Cats a great shot at winning.

at 9:51 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

I did not see or listen to the game last nite. I'm glad Adam H is gone next year. UC will never crack top 20 with that caliber of athlete starting.

However, he had a good game overall if he held Gransberry in check and Adam H only had 2 fouls by the boxscore. I'm use to reading Adam H with 4 or 5 fouls per game.

That's not what I saw at all.

Want to know why?

Well, after watching the first 5 minutes, I FELL ASLEEP. Literally.

Oh well, at least the Bearcats escaped with one.

One half the teams in the conference have a conference record of less than .500? An infinite # of monkeys with an infinite # of typewriters could have written Hamlet? MY GAWD EDNA, THEY ARE ON THIS BLOG!

at 12:02 PM Blogger Monclova Steve said...

After some exhaustive research, I have found that -- if you add up all the Big East teams' conference W/L records, it comes out to exactly .500!

In fact, the same is true for EVERY conference in the country!

Not only that, but in every sports league, the same is true!

How could that be? Hmm, I wonder...

at 12:07 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hey Chevidiot Sports Authority, I thought that Gransberry was going to go nuts on us. I saw him score 7 points on 2 field goals.

You really hit the nail on the head with that prediction.

at 12:07 PM Blogger Cheviot Sports Authority said...

Well, Steve can't say as I didn't dose a bit myself. One of the bad things about Bearcat BB is that when I fall asleep during the games, it makes it hard to get to sleep at bedtime.

at 12:37 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Chevidiot, since you are ignoring me I was going to post your comment predicting Gransberry going nuts but it has been removed.

Boy he really went nuts, leads the BEast in doubles doubles, did he get one last night, NO, didn't think so.

About the sloppy game did you know that UC is THE ONLY SCHOOL in the country, 316 div. 1 schools, that does not have a 3rd year scholly player. With a team of frosh and JUCOS you can't expect perfection. BH's teams won a few games that were very ugly also.

You can't back your talk up Chevidiot.

12:37 Anon,
Settle down, it'll be OK. I have some friendly advice for you.
First let me say that CSA and I don't agree on many things concerning UC basketball. That's OK. That's what this is all about -- expressing our opinions.

Having said that, if you want more responses then register with a name. I know I tend to respond more to those who have gone to the trouble (actually, it's no trouble at all) to do so. Also, since he IS using his registered name, don't address him with a variation of it that's an insult. People tend to talk a lot more to someone who isn't calling them an idiot.

CSA doesn't need me to defend his points of view. I usually don't and am not doing so now.

I would encourage you to of course argue your points strongly. But if you want responses, I'm not sure that insults get you what you want.

Adam H should be benched for the rest of the season. He's too much of a liability out there.

at 5:50 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

What is sorely needed is a 'We Love Adam H. No Matter What' Fan Club. Then, we could all just talk about setting screens and playing defense. No need to mention that basketball requires a measure of offensive aptitude also, including simple little things like making layups...

at 2:08 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Who else is going to play center? Biggie can't go more than 15-20 mins with his foot condition. SO who do we put in? Sikes, we saw what happened last year didn't we? So who? Who would be better than Adam H on the current roster?????

1. Notre Dame is a lock for the NCAA tourney.

2. UC is not even a lock for the NIT.

Here endeth the lesson.
