Alvin Mitchell update
Alvin Mitchell seems to be getting closer to reinstatement to the basketball program. He's not there yet but Mick Cronin said today that Mitchell is doing better.
"He's gone from an indefinite suspension to probation," is how Cronin put it. “He’s had a couple of good weeks since spring started. We’ll see, but he’s trying and I commend him for it.”
Mitchell's problems were neither academic nor legal, but a series of transgressions that Cronin felt he had to deal with for the good of the team.

If he has his head on straight, this COULD be an unexpected bonus...I had already said my good-byes...
Al McGuire always said "the best thing about freshman is they become sophomores" so it is reasonable to expect more out of Mitchell and the rest of his classmates in the '08-'09 season.
Bill's article about the APR is good news for the Bearcats future. I need to state up front that I was always a Bob Huggins fan, but I thought that he did things the hard way; this in the sense that he brought in JC players and guys with questionable academic credentials and then he had to scream at them all the time because they only had 2 years to learn the game. I think Mick's strategy of bringing in guys for four years will really pay off. Mick and his staff can teach the guys the fundamentals the first couple years and then reap the rewards their last two years. Once the classes gets balanced with 3 or 4 players in each class, then we can expect to have well-taught veteran type players with some solid discipline on the floor at all times. I like how Mick is rebuilding and I can see the possiblity that we have a shot to win 10 or 11 Big East games next season and be back in the NCAA tournament.
I'm over on the x blog trying to smear their students and we havo our own problem children. i'm being embarrassed here
