Baseball on a roll
UC's sweep of UConn over the weekend was its first series sweep in the Big East in two years. The Bearcats are 7-2 in the league, tied for first place with St. John's and Notre Dame. UC hasn't played in the NCAA Tournament since 1974. They have played in the Tournament five times overall - 1956, 1961, 1967 and 1971.

Great news for UC baseball.
Where is the best rundown of the team, players, strengths, challenges, etc?
Thanks, Bill.
Just to prove to you what an oldtimer I am...
I played against that '67 team. As I recall, they were arguably UC's best ever. Wasn't it those guys, or was it the '71 team, correct me if I'm wrong, that met Southern Illinois in the regional finals in a two and out scenario. This was back in the days when the Salukis won the national title a couple times and were a premier college power. UC had already beaten them once in the regionals, and only had to win one of two to advance. I believe they lost something like 13-12 and 7-6, to miss out on a trip to the College World Series. Closest they've ever been.
The game we played against them was at Haubner Field in White Oak, the old home field. It was in late March or early April and it snowed much of the game. About 37 degrees and windy. Whew! That's the thing about college baseball, they play even when the pros won't. We (Tommy Tech, aka Thomas More) lost 1-0 when Jimmy Nageleisen stole home for the winning run. I think everybody was relieved when the game was over. Our old coach, the venerable firecracker Jim Weyer (legendary as a basketball coach)sent me up to hit in the sixth and stay in for the rest of the game. I was 16 years old at the time and faced UC's bonus baby pitcher, BIll Kleem. Boy the bumblebees in my hands were amazing when I grounded out. Coldest game I ever played in, and I played a long time.
UC had Kleem and a bunch of other very colorful guys. Guys like Nagy and Hudy Camp and others whose names escape me. As I recall, those three went on to play a good while in the minors. We (TMC) played a ridiculous schedule, ol Coach Weyer loved to schedule any big schools he could, including X, Miami, Dayton, UL and UK, that is if they weren't afraid of us LOL. Beat some of them too, on occasion.
Playing in the snow against a fireballer is no fun. I still cringe at the thought.
UC baseball has gone through some tuff times. But it has a rich tradition. It'd be nice to see it regain some of its glory again.
Anybody else out there recall any of the teams of this era?
Bill - Any idea what the national scribes who know college baseball are saying (if anything) about bearcat baseball?
I'd love to see them in Omaha one day...
