The best of times, the worst of times
After reading Dustin Dow's "By the numbers" in the paper today and learning that Xavier's 55 wins in the past two years are the most for any two-year period in XU history, I wondered if the opposite might not be true for UC- if the 38 losses of the past two seasons might be the most losses in any two-year period for the Bearcats. It turns out this is not the losingest two-year period in UC history. But it does rank third.
UC was 11-17 in Ed Badger's last year in 1982-83. The Bearcats followed that with a 3-25 record in 1983-84, Tony Yates' first season. That's 42 losses in two years.
They improved to 17-14 in 1984-85, but combined with the previous season that still gave them 39 losses in two years.
The best two-year periods for UC were the national championship years of 1960-61 and 1961-62 when they won 56 games. They matched that total in 1998-99 and 1999-00 and again in 2000-01 and 2001-02.

Kinda makes you wonder about the current situation, doesn't it?
ST CSA
Never would have thought that we'd have a chance to relive the Yates/Badger glory days. But don't worry, CSA. Super Coach is going to get us out of this current mess. Please be a little more patient. We'll just have to wait a while to see. After all, he's got another four years to do it!
This past season is nowhere close to that 3-25 season. It's bad enough you aren't giving Cronin half a chance, with the team he inherited...but, comparing that 3-25 team to either of the past 2 seasons (especially this season), is ridiculous.
They won 3 games that year! 1 came against NKU. They won zero in the mighty Metro. And that was the year of the infamous "stall ball" game vs Kentucky. That was an awful basketball team.
8-10 in the Big East is light years ahead of that Yates squad.
I find it humorous that there is definitely a pattern developing before our eyes...
like always..Bill Koch posts a new thread...who are the first two people to provide their same song and dance?
CSA and wlmnmw prez...
you know, there argument may be taken a bit more seriously if there was even a large minority that shared their views...as it is though, they are a very vocal two man anti-UC army...
humorous
Remember--
It isn't wins and losses that matter...IT'S THOSE GRAD RATES. How many players are going to graduate over this same 2-year period--that's what REALLY counts!
Super Coach is going to get us out of this current mess?
When are we going to hire him?
We had a super coach. I have watched super coaches, Mick is not one! Mick is not even a good coach. Mick was all we could get after Phil Cox of xavier, Dr. Z of osu and Jeff Wyler conspired to destroy UC Basketball.
OK let's see Yates first 2 years he loses 39 games. Cronin losses only 38 in his first 2 years.
That's great we are one game better than "The Dark Years".
I expect the same end game. Local guy resigns after 6 years, and opens Cronin-Wyler Honda in Milford.
With the start of Spring Fottball practice 4/1 will BK allow the distraction of Mauk to practice with the team?
I hope BK holds Mauk out of practice unless the NCAA approves UC's appeal. The QBs who will be playing next year need the practice time, not Mauk.

It's no coincidence that comments are down. It's amazing how a couple of people (I'm being nice) can destroy a blog.
Thankfully basketball season is over. Although I'm sure they will use the football news posts to get in some more attacks on Cronin and UC basketball.
what hypocrite boys. Quit complaining about complainers. Ignore and move on.
Hopson to Tennessee as expected. Wants to play for a guy that can coach like Pearl.
What happened to "not believing" UC wasn't on the list, Bill? Soon after you make that comment he's with Tennessee.
Looks like UC's recruiting class is complete, and appears likely to be ranked lower than this year's disaster. And this was such a crucial class too.
Looks to be another long, long year under a guy who is supposed to be such a "great" recruiter.
Hopson to Tennessee?? As Gomer would have put it, "Surprise! Surprise!"
Who would have dreamt that he would turn down Super Coach and want to play for a real coach like Pearl?
Four more long years of excuses, boys and girls. Anyone else wonder if he'll last that long? Or hoping that he doesn't?
so, because he chose Tennessee, that means UC wasn't on his list?
And I am not sure why you think this recruiting class is so awful.
Rivals.com has them right outside the top 30.
Gates and Wright are pretty solid pulls.
You just can't expect any coach to bring in McDonald's All-Americans, 2 years after the team was decimated.
UCfro - Huggins left 3 seasons ago.
most recognize that is when the team got decimated. Or are you saying after mick ran off Downey? Or Crowell? Or Mitchell? Could be then.
UC has more turnover than Pillsbury.
Muskies..
When Huggins left, AK's team was hardly decimated. Downey, Hicks, McGowan, White, Kirkland..sorry, but that was a pretty decent team. I don't know anyone that thinks that team was decimated.
The only player worth mentioning, that Cronin was left with, was McGowan. Not to mention, zero recruiting done, because AK knew he wasn't coming back.
