Looking for more students
Mick Cronin is hoping for more student support at Fifth Third Arena now that school is back in session and UC in fully engaged in its Big East schedule.
"We haven’t had a lot of student support," Cronin said. "When we were playing home games it was November and we weren’t playing name teams. When we played Memphis we were out of school and we had been out for two weeks. So now that we’re back in school and we’re playing Syracuse on a weeknight, I’m hopeful that with the Louisville win and with us at 1-1 in the conference it’s a big week for us.”
Wednesday's game against Syracuse is UC's first at Fifth Third Arena since the Dec. 19 loss to Memphis.

I'll attend in 2008/2009 BB season. See you there next year.
You do know that the men play on wednesday (tomorrow) not tuesday (today) right? The women play tonight, dont expect you to know that though.
Ah, Bill, the game's tomorrow.
You mean tomorrow night right?
I think you mean tomorrow night's game?
By the way - UC's website has it wrong, too - they show Wednesday, January 8.
DOH!
Maybe some of the incoming Frosh will show up. It'll remind them of intramurals and tag football days.
The better UC BB team plays tonight anyhow. Be a good mistake to make - seeing the women play instead of watching another lack of effort, etc.
UC still has a BB team? I'm really looking forward to seeing Ron Allen play tomorrow. Oh, I mean Adam H. And he actually starts. That tells you just how for UC has sunk and stunk!! Thanks again, BOT and NZ!!!!
I don't care about these bandwagoning jerks....I'll be there.

Of course you'll be there. You get paid for pretending to coach, don't you, Mick?
Bill, do you review some of these comments. I haven't posted since Josh and the Post were smashed but, if you do- as it used to be almost all Enquirer Blogs did- then what is up with all the recent BS.
For the most part on Katz's blog NZ and BOT comments had disappeared. Is the Enquirer crowd really this classless? Do you approve their input?
And, yeah, I'll be there.
It's because your team stinks Mick. Not that hard.
Go 'EERS
Go REBELS
NZ and the BOT are fair game on any UC related blog. They screwed up the b-ball program big time!
Bill, could you please be sure that ANON 7:53PM will only have to read the things that he or she wants to read or believe. There's simply no room for independent thinking about UC!
Been a uc fan for 45 years , when will UC admit they hired another Tony Yates.
HAHAHAHAHA. I'll be there

But remember Stubby, this is his DREAM job. The question is though, how far is Mickie from our DREAM coach??
I feel sick when I read comments from so-called fans about our current coach. The guy inherited a mess, and took it on happily. Why? Because he's a Cincy boy, one of us, he wants to be here more than anywhere else. So he rolled up his sleeves, works his a** off, and while still trying to just get the basic building blocks in place, he is being eaten alive by what amounts to his own family.
If we lose Kelly, Cronin, and even Thomas, who went through a lot from the fans at the beginning, all while apparently doing a very good job, then we deserve to s**k nationally and lose coaches year after year. I hate to tell the rumors I just heard about another big time program already being interested or at least asking questions about MT. We need stability and we need people who aim high. We've got both in these three guys - let's try to make their lives easier, not harder, shall we?
In other words, SUPPORT MICK CRONIN until he has proven, proof that can only be evidenced over time, that he can't do the job. Until then we have nothing to lose by supporting him, and everything to gain as he, and therefore, the TEAM, will benefit from fan support.
It is funny how they are all asking for student support when the need to fill the stands, yet when they do sellout (like the Crosstown Shootout), they limit the number of student tickets. No loyalty to the students.
I agree, give Mick a chance. Just because we are used to success doesn't mean we can bash Mick for a bad year or two. This team is clearly in the rebuilding mode and that freshman class should be something to watch in a couple years.
XU plays against a crappy St. Bonaventure team tonight, and I guarantee you they have more fans there than UC does against a strong Syracuse team.
But then again, Xavier is a good team. UC is not. Why waste an evening and money on the garbage shoveled into 5/3 Arena?
If there was a crazy fan base for the Memphis game, UC would have won. It was sad. The band didn't play during timeouts like they used to - everyone just sat down.
Or I should say, they continued to sit down. You get yelled at in 113 & 131 if you stand up. What happened?
And please, go away bandwagon fans - don't come back when they're winning again.
I am staying home tonight so I can watch Andy Kennedy's undefeated Ole Miss rebels.
Bill -
I can't believe UC is recruiting Bud Mackey - a kid who made a mistake obviously, but it wasn't that long ago the BOT AND the president were talking about how character counts.
Hypocritical does not begin to describe the actions of that administration - I guess the lack of basketball revenues has a moral price to them.
Yes kids deserve a second chance, but to state your 'standards' in public records and then turn a blind eye to them later shows the shallowness and lack of ethics they have.
Just disgusting.

Can't agree more with anon 11:36 AM. If Mick is doing such a bad job, how in the world is he pulling recruits away from other schools. For ex., Bishop was the best player on the St. Benedict's Prep team last year, and this year that team is #1 - Bishop had a lot of options and he chose UC. McClain is at UC and he had UK, UCONN, UNC, and others interested in him. Gates and Wright are the real deal for next year and the addition of Aldridge (a Huggins recruit for those of you who keep living in the past)is going to be a help (he is thick and strong). Think of it this way - UK fans are there for their team through good and bad - if we think of UC as better than UK, shouldn't we stay true to our team? GO CATS - can't make it tonight due to coaching committments at a local high school, but will be there Saturday night!
MC demands a full Shoemaker for syracuse game and puts an average product on the floor. Expect about 11000.
BK demands a full stadium and puts an excting product on the field. he gets his sellouts.
I demand to win the lottery. We'll see if MC or I win first.

Two points to help keep you on an even keel. One, a good recruiter isn't always a good coach. Two, don't necessarily associate players ability with the schools that were looking at him.
Either way, Mick is bringing in some good players and we need to give him time to prove himself.
12:31 - Who cares what you are doing?
Andy Kennedy was an ok guy, I guess, but he was only a head coach here for one season.
I don't get it.
I have a question for all of you fair weather fans who are just going to sit out this year and wait til they are good again to start watching and going to games. Have you ever played sports, and if so do you know how much easier it is to play at a higher level and how much easier it is to be competitive when you have supporters behind you? From personal experience I can say that when you have others supporting you, even when things look hopeless, you can suprise everyone including yourself.
There are some very sad small thinkers out there who use this blog to vent their spleen.
Results? Their blood pressure rises a little, they feel better ridiculing every body who they see as destroying their perfect BB coach,or those willing to give Cronin the benefit of the doubt, and continue to ruin it for those who have dealt with it and MOVED ON!
Did I like it when huggins left? I was stunned like anyone else. No but I also didn't like the comments I constantly got about our thug team and our screaming coach and everything else people kept throwing at me.
I kept defending the actions because I overlooked them because of what seemed to be results.I was in denial like you still are that there were problems.
Now that I am over the shock of almost THREE YEARS AGO and have looked at the whole thing exactly what did dear huggie give us? In the last few years it was a lot of one and outs in the ncaas. No championship, one final four, one eighter.
Yeah all that with him and Kennedy resulted in two years of no recruiting - and this is what you're seeing now. Deal with it.
Those of you who still want to vent about huggie can go talk to a therapist. He's got his dream job and wants to stick it to UC in a bad way the next time he's up against UC. So you jerks who are going to keep supporting him and having your tantrums on this blog I hope you'll wear your blue and gold and sit on his side.
The rest of us are going to give Mick some time and let some recruiting years work themselves out.Only after then might there be anything to rag about.
Bob Huggins doesn't coach here anymore (Thank God). Andy Kennedy doesn't coach here anymore (Shame). Mick Cronin coaches here and was put into an impossible situation. Give the guy a break and let him run the team. Based on most of the comments, many aren't real fans so why care. Two years from now you'll find another reason to complain and it won't be about coaching.
