Academic honors
The UC football team has landed six players on the Big East all-academic team: offensive linemen Digger Bujnoch, Chris Flores and Jeff Linkenbach, punter Kevin Huber, linebacker Ryan Manalac and defensive back Cedric Tolbert. All are finance majors, except for Tolbert, who is majoring in special education.

Why the conspiracy theory? Can't we just be proud to have these guys be both academic all stars and good football players? This is the best of both worlds, but according to the first post there must be something negative in here somewhere! Just enjoy the good news.
What? I read 6:14pm and then the negative comments following. Seems the negative people read their biases into the first poster's statement, where I do not.
Is poster 6:14pm just stating that he/she wishes more individuals and races would value an education? Is that being negative? I don't read he/she stating that sports should be de-emphasized. People need to learn to read objectively.

What are the standards that get you on the all-academic team? The BE is full of significant academic schools. I'm betting the standards are pretty high.
This is just so exciting! Maybe if Nancy sticks around long enough we can be a chess champion school. Or maybe a ping pong school. The possibilities are now endless.
Good for these guys, at least they didn't get a C like UC did in football recruiting according to ESPN.
ESPN recruiting coverage is a joke. They dont even have Pead listed as a UC commit.
And they Give Pitt, Who i Believe had a top 25 class a B-. What a joke/hate fest on the Big East.
Ah yes. ESPN, the wonderful folks that bring us ESPNU and ESPN Classic. Yes, the brilliant folks who made it impossible for most of us to watch the crosstown shootout a while back. That was a brilliant move as mostly only people in the Cincinnati area care about the UC-x hoopla. And, in the matter of recruiting, you want to trust the judgement of the ESPN geniuses?
Congrats on passing the basket-weaving classes taught at UC!
The bad news is, once these jocks graduate they'll have a crappy degree from a crappy inner-city school in crime-ridden Cincinasti.
Congratulations to all six young men for their well deserved honor. Your success with both football and academics reflect well on you, the Bearcats, and the university.
I know it's unfortunate that some will try to detract from your achievement for their own personal reasons, but the Bearcat community is very proud of all of you.

I'm a UC grad and my degree there has been honored wherever I went. I live a very comfortable retirement.
The truth is that UC has some of the most highly respected departments in the country.
But, as with any school, a bachelor's degree in history isn't going to do you any good if it isn't backed up by a plan to get a certification in some field that uses it....probably teaching.
UC, though, is as good (or better) a city university as most others.
Buckeye Mike, let me be the first to congratulate all OSU Academic All Americans this year. Student athletes across the country who get this award should be honored, not slammed. Your post ... I don't even know what to say. And congrats to our UC boys as well. Job well done and keep it up.
Buckeye Mike is simply simple. He's a bitter athlete wannabe who is constantly rattled with two things:
1) After many years and numerous attempts, he is still trying to get a life, and
2) After many years and many attempts, his o$u suckeyes are still trying to beat a SEC team in a bowl game. ZERO wins in nine attempts. That's 0 and 9!!!!
In light of the above, we can sympathize with the little guy's great angst.
Mike, that is true. Not all of us will grow up to be as successful as Mo Clarett or Art Schlichter.

Well, considering OSU produced Andy Katzenmoyer, who flunked golf and out of school. Of course we all can not take a 5 credit hour history of rock n roll class, like Oden did.
Yes, Buckeye Mike's original post should be deleted. The hatred for UC that he dumped on this site will be multiplied by 100 UC grads and returned to OSU in the future. Very unfortunate.
Was there any press release from Ms. Z on the academic awards? Isn't this her priority!

Yeah, Oden, the 40 year old freshman, took history of rock and roll and a sociology class for winter quarter before he split for the NBA. Also remember a story about an O$U running back trying to transfer to Maryland who could hardly transfer any credits because all the classes he took were so crappy. O$U is an academic wasteland for student athletes. They use them the throw them away.
