Cronin's vote for Big East player of the year

He can't match the numbers of either Notre Dame's Luke Harangody (20.2 points, 10.8 rebounds) and Georgetown's Roy Hibbert (13.2, 6.5) was the preseason player of the year, but Mick Cronin says his vote for Big East player of the year will go to Louisville's David Padgett (11.2, 7.7).

"He's the best player on the best team," Cronin said.

Guess the only thing holding Sippin' back from voting for Adam H. is not voting for one of your own players. "But he can set a screen and defend sometimes." If one only read this blog, you could get the impression that he's possibly a BB player. Those of us who actually watch the games know better.

Wow, Mick got me on that one. I thought he was talking about Adam H. !!

I don't understand why everyone picks on Adam H. He is a solid role player who Mick is asking a lot of playing tons of minutes. He defends, sets solid screens, hustles and shoots free throws. Just because he doesn't show up in the box score I guess he is not a good player. By that thought process I would guess that Stanley Burrell is one of the worst D1 players out there.

Adam H. is a solid player who sat out a year to play for us. We should be behind him, not making fun of him.

I guess that explains why we will miss Adam H. so much. He's obviously super in the eyes of a few. Of course, I don't understand sports in general, and particularly don't understand BB. May I please open the door for him when he leaves??

JT- They do so, because they're demonstratively ignorant about the game of basketball.

As the saying goes: "Chicks dig the long ball". It's the same thing, blissfully ignorant to anything but the most obvious aspects of the game. Any notion of subtlety is lost on them.

Those who bash Adam are clueless.

Finally a person on here with some common sense, thanks for proving that there are at least two people that read these blogs that have an idea of what is going on.

Dumb vote - look at James of Marquette, Hibbert of G'Town and Harangody of ND, and Padgett is his choice over them?

Padgett is 4th at best.

Wow! I see that this thread was a call for the 'We Love Adam H. Fan Club' to meet. Of course, when discussing Big East Player of the Year, one would naturally expect Adam H.'s name to come up. We had future NBA superstar Ron Allen last year and have former European pro star Adam H. this year. Wonder who will rise to the top on next years team to place in the fan club slot? Picture this for next year: 'We Love (fill in blank) Fan Club'

Padgett is a solid vote - look at the way Louisville was playing before he returned. UC was fortunate that his first game back was the first game of the Big East schedule. He has been a key component in U of L's rise in the league. A lot of people rip Mick, but you have to give credit where credit is due - just like baseball's MVP award, the POY tag should go to the player that is most valuable to his team - I think it is obvious.

Anon 8:09,

Would you really expect anything more than that from Sippin'? Remember, he stated last year how much better UC would be with Adam H. And, this year we see how much better UC is with Adam H. Also, he said how great the freshmen were going to be this year. Just on a tear, aren't they? What a great coach and recruiter we now have!

Sincerely,
'The We Love Mick No Matter What' Fan Club

Anon 10:11, how are we not better this year than last year? We have a winning record in the Big East. We have two more overall wins than last year. As the article today states, we are no better on offense than we were last year, so how are we getting more wins? Our defense has gotten a lot better becuase of Adam H, Biggie, and Belton. We have size and 15 fouls now to protect the paint. I would say that Mick is doing just fine. When the freshman grow into their roles, we will be back in the NCAA tourney.

Adam Hryanciuk is the fourth best player on the sixth best team. This year we only had two good players. If our team finishes at 0.500 we will have moved from grade F to grade C. With Williams and Biggie healthy, we may have five good players next year. It will take eight or nine good players to become a contender, but we will never get that many good players to play for a second rate team. Remember what Devon Downey said when he first came? He said his said his pals at Carolina were content to play in the NIT and he was not (UC had played in the NCAA for 15 years in a row). Paraphrasing what Bill said, "you can't get there in one year."

Bearcat in Atlanta and Tom's dad,

We are a team that is tied for sixth place in the conference, which at this point I'm quite pleased with. There's quite a difference though between being tied for sixth place and being the sixth best team. I'm certain that neither the NCAA section committee nor the Big East coaches would consider UC the sixth best team in the Big East, even with our BE record at this point in the season.
As far as now having 15 fouls to give in the paint, that helps keep a presence there, though not necessarily providing any really good defense.
I'm a decades old fan of UC, but I've stated before and will again, this team is still two years from the Big Dance. Hope that I'm proven wrong on this point, but I doubt it.

I agree, 2:49, you are saying the same thing as me, just in a different way. When the freshman grow into their roles on this team (a 1 to 2 year process) we will be one of the top 4 or 5 Big East teams. In the last 3 years, that type of finish is an automatic NCAA birth. My argument was with the poster (anon 10:11) who is saying that UC has not improved this year from last. The improvements are obvious and a sign that Mick has got the ship moving in the right direction. I would rather see Adam H guarding Hibbert than Sikes.

If the POY is the team MVP - then it should go to Gransbery (sp).

Anon 2:49,
Sixth, seventh or eighth best team, I don't have argument about that. The NCAA selection committee and bookies in Nevada, they can pick their own ratings. However, I'm a bearcat fan and I think head to head, on a nuetral court, our team will beat lower 12 most of the time and lose to the upper five (excluding WV) most of the time. Maybe I'm optimistic, but the data supports that opinion.

A few more wins will help recruiting, but the second round at MSG is going to be against one of the top four teams in the conference.

USF has won 2, 2 BEast games and they have NOT won a BEast game on the road EVER.

USF hasn't won a Big East road game EVER. But they could have and likely should have against UC. Makes you really proud to be a Bearcats BB fan these days doesn't it. All we need now is to get Tony Yates back and the BOT and Nancy will be very, very happy. Oh, we sort of do, you say? Great!!!!!

Coulda shoulda, what are you some kind of X fan.

The game before they played UC they lost to UConn by ONE point at UConn.
