Another Tulane memory
OK, here's another quick story from Tulane that demonstrates how reporters sometimes fall into scoops. Back in the Robert Whaley era, if there was such a thing, I flew into New Orleans on my own, not on the same flight with the team. I got to the hotel a little late, checked in and headed down to the bar for a beer.
When I got there, associate head coach Dan Peters and some of the other UC people - not Bob Huggins - were already there. Peters asked me if Robert Whaley was on my flight.
"No," I said, "wasn't he on yours?"
That's how I found out that Huggs had left Whaley behind. I made a quick call to the paper and had it in my story the following morning.

Bill,
I'm surprised you remember anything at all about those Tulane trips, due to the university's close proximity to Bourbon Street.
It wasn't just Tulane. B-Street was only a rental car and an hour away from Southern Miss.
These are great Bill. Please keep them coming. You not only have found a way to make the blog has informative has Josh did, but this gives it an extra dimension that long time Bearcats fans will love.
The only thing I remember about Tulane is that it's close to the college that Ronald Allen came from. I see your Robert Whaley and raise you another underperforming big man.............
didnt he get drafted by the jazz? is he still in the league?
8:25, Ron Allen was a little different situation. Ron did not underperform, he merely was not talented enough for top tier D1. If not for Hurricane Kartina and the Cats being in the situation they were, he would have never played D1.
Whaley played briefly in the NBA -- 23 games, I think -- with Toronto. He is no longer with an NBA team.
I believe he's playing overseas.
