Mitchell suspended
UC announced a little while ago that freshman swingman Alvin Mitchell has been suspended indefinitely from the basketball team.
Here's Mick Cronin's quote from the release:
"We have standards and expectations for our players on the court, in the classroom and in their individual behavior. Alvin is not meeting those expectations at this time; therefore he is suspended from our team. It is my sincere hope that he chooses to put forth the effort to rejoin his team and be part of our program."
It's been a disappointing season for Mitchell, whom Cronin declared the most prepared among his six freshmen to make an immediate impact when he signed with UC last spring. For whatever reason, that hasn't happened. Mitchell, who averaged 33 points per game last year at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Ft. Lauderdale, is averaging 3.0 points and 1.4 rebounds for UC this year. He's shooting 26.3 percent from the field and is 8-for-36 from 3-point range.

Yes what a great recruit from the best coach in the world.
St CSA
CSA who exactly are you? My guess = D bag
Yeah - Huggins never had any problems with all of his scholar-athletes.
This is Huggins fault!
When Alvin was signed it was expected that Vaughn would move to the point and Alvin would step in at the 2. As it turned out, Warren is by far the best point on the team and Vaughn the best 2. This isnt the last disapointment Alvin will have to endure but the way he handles it will tell a lot about his future success.
This is Huggins fault!
Nope, it's Alvin Mitchell's fault.
Personal accountability, what a concept.
I have a hunch, which is backed up by absolutely no credible sources at all, that we will see him transfer at year's end.
This does not affect the team on bit for this year but if he matures into the type of player everyone hoped for, it may hurt in the next three years.
Oh no!!!! What will we do without Alvin Mitchell?
Hindsight is 20/20 I know, but I don't understand why he wasn't redshirted. I hope the kid gets it together, but despite Mick's comments he was not ready for Div. 1 basketball.
That said, the Bearcats will be fine without him.
Mitchell redshirted? Wilkes redshirted too? Your crystal ball must be pretty good that you know early in the year which 1st and 2nd year players will perform. And who among the leftovers will deliver on the court. Good for you.
1:44, Don't know where you've been, but I told everybody before and here I am repeating myself. It was and is all that Bob Huggins' fault. Hey Mike Thomas, Huggins coached basketball, right? Ah OK, thanks. - Nancy
I thought the program had risen to higher levels?
Mick is currently recruiting players associated with drugs - now this attitude problem - and he ran off Crowell after saying how he is sticking with the kids til they graduate.
He is doing the same things all coaches do - there is no difference.
hey Nancy - is this the level of integrity you were looking for?
Stupid Huggins. Everything is just fine, now that the dastardly, suds sippin', criminal lovin' Huggins creepo is gone. We haven't had any problems and don't anticipate having any since he's off the scene. Right, Mickie Boy? - Nancy
I think Mitchell is the most promising freshman on this team. He shows flashes of brilliance. He's quick, can jump, seems to have a jump shot. One of Mick's challenges is to be sure to maximize Alvin Mitchell's potential. If we can get him on track, it's going to be huge.

No, I don't presume to have a crystal ball. If I could pick all winners in recruiting, I'd have a career in basketball.
In Mitchells's case, it appears that he's not the player that Coach Cronin thought he would be, as evidenced by Mick's comments after he signed.
I'm simply pointing out that -- at least in this case -- maybe Mick made a mistake. Is he allowed to make some? Of course.
I appreciate your concerns about my ability to predict the future -- which I can't do. But why not comment on the subject at hand instead of my talents, or lack of?
On another note -- Isn't it amazing how quickly the anti-Bearcats crowd practically leaps out of their beds to comment when something bad happens in the program, only to go back to bed if and when the 'Cats win?
Will I criticize Mick when I feel it's warranted? Of course. Everybody, deal with it. You should do the same.
But the objective here -- and what splits people on this blog into 2 camps -- is that one side wishes success for Mick and the 'Cats, and the other just wants to trash the coach no matter what.
Mick will succeed or fail on his own merits. I hope he succeeds because then UC basketball succeeds. But he will, and has, made mistakes along the way.
Who hasn't?
monclova steve, does Mick share his sippin' bottle with you? When have you EVER criticized Mick? Really, when?
Well, its sad that we are losing one of more highly touted recruits. But on the other hand, Mick is showing that he has expectations of his student-athletes and if they aren't living up to their end of the bargain then they won't be on the team. Simple as that.
Unfortunately he was not contributing as much as we had hoped, but that doesn't mean that he won't be able to in the future. Let's hope he can turn his attitude around and work hard to become part of the team. But if not, its his loss. We will easily find another player to fill his scholly.
Hey 4:22:
Try reading my posts at 2:17 and 3:50. I could have sworn those included criticisms of Mick.
So, does Mick not know talent (after declaring how great Mitchell was) or has his coaching been poor in his case? Not good either way.
I'm still wondering where the team's offense will come from next year but some, including Bill, don't seem to care or are not interested in asking Mick those type of tough questions.
UC remains Thug U. It's a ghetto school with ghetto athletes.
Alvin Mitchell is the prototypical Cincinasti player. Don't you people ever get tired of being a national joke?
crickets chirping...
Answer to Mike's question:
Guess not!
