Playing in the Big East Tournament
Next year all 16 members of the Big East Conference will play in the Big East Tournament, which means there will be no more battle for those coveted 12 spots in the tournament the way there is now. I suppose it's a good thing that every team gets to play in the tournament, but I prefer the way it is now. I like the fact that teams have to earn their way in. From a UC standpoint, just getting to the tournament this year would be a nice way to gauge the improvement of the program over last season. And for programs that don't make it year after year, it's a convenient way to note the progress that's not being made.

I look for the Bearcats to beat St Johns by 25 points Wednesday.
By next season, I am SURE that the Bearcats will make it to the Big East Tournament.
UH, OH! It's afternoon. Suckeye Mike will be getting up and walking to the library to use the computer again to post his one stupid post on all new threads.
Wow! There's no worries about making the BIG Big East Tourney next season. Maybe we'll even have a shot by then of making the NIT little dance. I guess this year we're shooting for the Junior High school dance, the BIG Big East Tourney! In all of history, has any other university ever been this STUPID to destroy their own BB program?
Bill, I totally agree- the Big East is the largest B-ball conference in the country. "Playing into the tourney" makes much more sense and the season more exciting with the conference games being more meaningful. It also makes sense to "relegate" the bottom 4 teams in a 16 team conference. However, as we know dollars always wins out where logic is concerned.

The program has not "been destroyed".
It has had a brief setback - in part due to the admin, in part due to your ol pal Bob.
As Bill Koch has tried to point out, things have and are greatly improving.
I know this post may be hard for you to comprehend, however, knowing that is written above the understanding of a second grade student.
Wasn't the original point (that was fed to the public at least, we all know it's really just to make more money) of these conference tournaments to give every team a chance to get into the NCAA? If that's the case, every team should get to play in their conference tournament.
Isn't it just wonderful that in such a short period of time this team has come from a National power to a team battling to finish 12th in their conference?
Respectfully,
The Kind & Gentler,
Saint CSA
Hey Bill,
Having to qualify for the tournament is like a tourney to get to play a tourney and tournaments are fun.
so I agree, but this is the last year that the Cats would be in doubt, so changing the format will not have any effect on the Cats. we will just have to use national rankings to judge improvement from now on.

I agree with Bill's reason on the Big East Tournament and for the additional reasons:
* The extra four teams extend the tournament by a day, which means extending the number of games for a team to win. I would imagine the top 4 or 8 teams would get a first round bye, but really what chance does a lower division team have of winning the title having to play 4 or 5 games in as many days anyhow? Why bother?
* For those teams that are serious Final Four contenders, you have a great season, you're expecting a top 4 NCAA seed and you have one bad outing against Rutgers in the BE and your NCAA seed is killed. Nice. Waste of the regular season for one money-grubbing tournament game.
* That first day of play-in BE Tourney games rarely draws flies and is barely worth turning on the lights. That South Florida-DePaul game oughta really rake them in at MSG.
* With the exception of the bubble teams conference tournaments are useless anymore with 65 teams going to the NCAA. Otherwise what's the point? Does St. John's have a shot of winning 5 in a row? No. So why waste everyone's time? You've played 16 conference games in a season and gone 5-11, but now you'd have to play 5 in 5 days to reach the NCAA?
So what it comes down to is the money from TV and attendance is the only reason to extend to all 16 teams.
I'm a college basketball fan. More basketball is good. I don't mind expanding the tourney. Does any other conference curtail it with only 75% of the teams?
Does any other conference have 16 freakin' teams?
What's the point of the regular season if you're going to allow the dregs of the league to have a last, one game chance to ruin the season of a team that has done their share to be in contention for an NCAA bid?
I don't think it's right to lose a bid because you got beat by a lower team in a one game playoff after playing four months and 16 games to be where you are.
Actually the whole league tournament thing is nothing but a money grab. You have already played an entire conference schedule to determine who the best teams are. Every year some 16-14 or 15-15 team gets into the NCAA and some deserving teams are left at home. But money talks.

1:15, this program WAS destroyed. That's why it's rebuilding from the ashes and has only one true Big East calibre player. All things considered, this team is overachieving this year. That is was initially destroyed is likely a difficult thing for a sensitive little guy to take - huh?

There's always a recovery period after radiation.
CSA,
I thought Nova was battling for that 12th place spot right now. It seems we are tied for 6th at the moment. Though that is nowhere comforting or a guarantee to make the tournament.
Worst case, we lose all 7 of rest of our schedule, falling to 6-12 in conference, and fail to make the tourney. Best case, we win all 7 making us 13-5 in conference and likely finish in the top 4 of the conference. More reasonable would be to win either 3 or 4 more and finish somewhere around 8th or 9th putting us in the middle of the tourney seeds and playing teams with similar records in conference.
In any event I would hardly say we are the team battling for that 12th spot this year.
Hey 4:40, NaZi is a malignent wart. Hopefully, she'll be removed SOON!!!!!
The only tourney we'll be in this year is the Big East tourney.
Yip yip yip yahoo!
We're going to Madison Square Gardens for a game or two. Then it's back home to Clifton.
UC basketball: Catch the excitement!
4:53 >> UC Grads can't spell malignant?
You one of the ones who hate Z for denigrating (google it) your degree?
Hey 4:53:
Nancy didn't get herself filmed on national tv....that was Bobby...all Bobby. We are very lucky to have Zimpher as UC's president. Everything shook out for the best: AK is closer to home at Ole Miss....Mick is where he belongs and Bobby's at home where the Morgantown Police Taxi service have no problem giving him rides home every night.
4:53 >> Ouch!!
9:53, that's the way to tell it like it is! Stupid Bobby doing what so many others before him have done. If he would have kissed my rear and not kissed your trophy wife, Jeff, we wouldn't have been so upset with him and sent him packing. Anyway Jeff, thanks for all your support.
Love, Nancy
9:32, I've been demoted to a little sister 'x' grad since I incorrectly spelled one word in all my excitement...LOL
10:39 - "I've been demoted to a little sister 'x' grad".
You can only wish... and no, I didn't go to X.
And you still can't even spill right.
12:45
No, you didn't go to 'x' and likely dropped out of Junior High. If anything, you likely have an "honorary" degree from o$u. Hopefully, I've 'spillt' everything correctly for ya, little fella. The library was closed, how were you able to use their computer?
Popular opinion of anti UC posters was that UC would win 2 or 3 games in the Big East and the overall win loss record would be on the order of 9 - 21. Posters like CSA continue to demonstrate a complete lack of understanding due to the fact that they have never played the game on any significant level.
The fact is that this team will probably go 10-8 or 11-7 in Big East conference regular season, win a game or 2 in the tournament and go to the NIT. A 12-6 finish though unlikely would put UC into the NCAA dance. At any rate, UC will be NCAA dancing in 2009.
9:14, gotta love your optimism. More cautious myself, but I hope you're right! - CSA's Buddy
7:11 >> Good for you - you regurgitated all the standard putdowns except the one about my GED degree or lack therefore.
Quit while you're behind.
9:46, didn't mention it, because I was fairly doubtful of your ability to pass the G.E.D., but at least you are aware of it. Quit while you are a behind.
9:46 and 9:52 ---
Are the two of you truly UC fans? If so, think for a moment how happy that you are making the x and osu trolls. Of course, unless that is what one or both of you are!
22 - 31.
9:59 >> You're right & I'm done. Thanks for the well-deserved slap-in-the-face - really. Huggies just boggle my mind.
