Beware the Bulls

South Florida will arrive at Fifth Third Arena on Wednesday night with a 2-11 record in the Big East and 39 losses in 45 games since joining the league. But the Bulls also have one of the best players in the league - 6-9, 270-pound Kentrell Gransberry.

Gransberry is coming off a monster performance - 26-points, 15-rebounds, 6-blocked shots in USF's last-second loss to UConn on Saturday. Before that, he scored 23 points with 9 rebounds in the Bulls' win over Syracuse. He leads the league in rebounding at 11.0 and in double-doubles with 14. He's seventh in scoring at 17.2 and shoots 54.1 percent from the field.

Last year he scored 21 points with 15 rebounds in USF's 74-59 win over UC in Tampa, a win that was so devastating that it moved Cedric McGowan to tears afterwards.

Of course, last year UC had no one who could physically match up with Gransberry. This time, with Adam Hrycaniuk, Anthony McClain and Kenny Belton they can throw three big bodies and 15 fouls at him. But that might not be enough.

Yes, the USF game is one UC should win and it helps that it's at Fifth Third because the Bulls have never won a Big East road game. But the presence of Gransberry alone should be enough to keep the Bearcats from taking this game for granted.

I would say a 26 point 15 rebound 6 block performance is going "nuts". However they still failed to win the game on their home court against a UCONN team that was not ready to play yesterday.

Mick will have a gameplan designed to limit his opportunities and touches. As long as the 'Cats play hard and tough, I see a 10 point win on Wednesday night, even if Gransberry goes "nuts". USF doesn't have enough other talent to beat a prepared UC team.

CSA, do you have a life? I seriously think you sit here refreshing the blog every minute waiting for Bill to post something so you can post something non value added.

at 4:26 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

He actually shoots 53.5% from the free throw line so you can relax a little bit west sider. When UC played Memphis, the #1 team in the nation, did Dorsey go nuts? Didn't think so, Adam H kept him in check, what makes you think that he can't do it against a JUCO transfer.

Haha no CSA lives for these local blogs. What a loser

at 6:20 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Be honest, now - CSA makes some good points now and then.

And yes, it seems like CSA is on here a lot, but if you lived in Cheviot, you'd be on this blog 24/7 like him.

Anyone think Buckey Mike and CSA might be the same person?

Either way, they remind me of the same perosn. You know, probably about 45, and probably still living in the basement of their parents' home. Probably fat. Probably never had a girlfriend. No life whatsoever. Other than anxiously waiting to post negative comments about UC. Probably applied to UC as a 40-something year old, but the application was denied. Wakes up every morning, sniffling and feeling sorry for himself for being a loser who was unable to attend the college he always dreamed about. LOL! What pathetic idiots! LOL!

No, Suckeye Mike and Cheviot Sports Authority are NOT the same person. I realize a number of you don't like CSA very much, but there's exists no evidence to point towards his ever supporting the $uckeye$. No, Suckeye Mike is very likely a stand alone idiot with no wife and no life, and even less brains!

Do you think Gransberry's offense will suffer, knowing he has to guard Adam H ?

at 8:16 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

If Mick is the Superstar Recruiter that some of you dream that he is, then why didn't he recruit Gransberry to come here. Especially when UC obviously needed a good big man this year. Oh, that's right, we've got Adam H. to go crazy while missing layup after layup. After all then' who needs Gransberry?

Ok, I'll bite, this should be easy. Everyone needs a low post presence like Gransberry. There are 300+ D-1 schools who wouldn't mind having Gransberry on their team. Only one team can have him and that is USF. So if you want to call Mick on the floor for that one, then you need to call every other D-1 coach out as well.

Unbelievable.

Everyone wanted Biggie McClain, we got him, are you going to take JT3 at Georgetown to task or Jim Calhoun to task because we got him and they didn't. You win some, you lose some, that's how it goes.

Shame on the us if we take anyone for granted (yes, I said "us" - I went to school there, my parents went there I buy gear and tickets, so I feel comfortable using "us"). USF could knock us down just as easily as we could knock down Pitt or Louisville...

As for ripping a coach because he doesn't get a certain recruit, that's pretty laughable - I remember Mateen Cleaves for example had it narrowed to UC and Michigan State - we see how that turned out. Recruiting is a strength of Micks. Time will prove this out or it won't. It's fun to watch the process though!

8:22, that's about right. We'll be OK though, we got Adam H. Have you already forgotten how Mick was singing his praises when the NCAA ruled him ineligible and BEFORE any of us had seen him on the court. But then again, maybe the other 300 D-1 coaches should be taken to task for missing out on him. Only one team can have him - and that's us!

at 9:54 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think every coach sings the praises of each kid they sign. If they didn't, then why would they sign them?

As for Adam H, he is a backup center/role player who would be better served in the high post as opposed to the low post. In the high post he could play to his strengths which is passing, setting screens to free shooters and to some extent his face-up jumper. I think we would have seen him there if Williams did not get hurt. When Williams went down, Adam was needed to rebound and play in the low post. He does the best he can and let's face it, he'll be gone next year, so its not like we have 3 more years of him.

When he was signed, our low post consisted of Ron Allen and Ced McGowan, which is to say, not much. Mick was elated to get someone with size. As the years pass, Mick will have more to choose from and will not have to reach for a player because he needs to fill a spot.

This wouldn't even be an item of discussion if Nancy had left the program in the capable hands of Huggins. She didn't, so now we have a three year drama while Mick tries to get the program back on track.

Dump Zimpher!!!

9:54,

Very well stated. Hopefully, we'll be improved by next year. I just find it very frustrating to see someone on the floor who at times looks so lost and out of place. And even more so when the person is wearing a UC uniform.

I understand and agree with what you are saying. He frustrates me as well but unfortunately, he was the best we could get at the time, so we just have to grin and bear it for at least another 6-10 games. Then we can look forward to next year. Who knows, maybe he'll surprise us some over the last part of the season.

I can't blame Mick for not getting Gransberry. He got a supposedly good recruiting class. The problem is some of them haven't developed as well as I hoped. That and the players from last year as a whole haven't progressed as well as I hoped in some cases.

Hopeflly we see more from this year's class next year and the new class performs better more quickly than this one did.

Dear NL,

Don't write love songs for Nancy.

at 12:51 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Who keeps posting these dumba$$ "songs"? They're not funny at all and I'm tired of scrolling past all this garbage!

Bill, do you have any control and/or interest in this blog? It seems like your bosses told you to "blog" and you're just doing this because you have to, not because you want to. Better get a moderator on here ASAP or do what Dustin Dow did and require registration. There's too many anonymous fools on here like "Toledo Steve", "Dave in Omaha" etc etc. Let's clean up this blog and get rid of the trash!

I guess also that Mick was supposed to look into the future and know that Mike Williams, his McDAA low post threat would be hurt for the year.

there is nothing more anonymous than "bob" lol

at 5:23 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

He's B-O-B from the movie, "What about Bob?" Or I once knew a guy named Bob that we called "Bribbens Hobblesworthless."

Oh, that was all as nonsensical as "Bob's" ignorant crybaby rant.

Oh, Bill. Please help me. Mommy amd daddy always give me what I want when I pout and cry. Please, pretty, pretty please.

Bill probably paid the guy to post that stuff. I never got the feeling he was very excited about doing this blog, so now he can let the whole thing melt into oblivion by not monitoring and deleting posts so we can actually comment on UC.

Bill, can you do a story about Demetrius Jones? He's the most prolific prospect to come to Clifton, and nobody knows a whole lot about him.

at 8:36 AM Blogger Dave in Omaha said...

Hey Bob - I put a handle on my anonymity. Does that still make me anonymous? My name IS Dave and I DO live in Omaha. How about now?

I agree with you about the anonymous posters though. The songs, while serendipitous are decidedly stupid. Inpossible to sort through the rubbish to get to actual posts about UC...

I think Bill has been posting excellent info on the blog, and that he's taken it seriously.

He's simply chosen to have an open forum instead of a closed one. There's good and bad with that, and there happens to be a few morons who like to hide behind that anonymity.

It's not Bill's fault that some mothers raise idiot kids.

I see three of you girls have a favorite that you've requested early this morning. Well here it is:

Mick Lovers Theme Song

Sippin'. He's always sippin'
And he'll be sippin'
Tomorrow for you.

Lippin'. He's always lippin'
And he'll be lippin'
Excuses to you.

(Repeat both choruses as long as he's coaching at HIS dream job.)

CITIZEN'S ARREST! CITIZEN'S ARREST!

Sounds like a whole bunch of Gomer's around here! Is Omaha near Mayberry?

And now, bubble talk:

Damn nice progress in less than 2 years from Coach Cronin.

Seriously, they're not getting in, but just being mentioned this early in the rebuilding process is a remarkable achievement.

at 10:41 AM Blogger Dave in Omaha said...

10:24 - I'm just looking for a strong finish. When the season started I had no expectations for the tourney whatsoever. Agree that just being mentioned (deservedly so) at this point is a feather in Micks cap. He's brought them a long way. Next year we'll see if he can continue to raise the bar, and then meet (or exceed) expectations. No reason to think he can't but we'll see!

CSA, there are a few self appointed English profs on here, but MANY sports experts. Well, as they opine.

at 11:24 AM Blogger Unknown said...

Bill, you're right. South Florida is a must win for UC. They have 3 home and 3 road games remaining.

They must win the home games to finish 15-15 for the regular season. That would be a real accomplishment for this team.

Away games are GTown, Pitt, and UConn. I don't see them winning any of those, but who knows.

With the nation's 8th toughest schedule, a .500 record might get them into the NIT.

at 10:36 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Bulls pull off the upset, beat UC by 5 at the Shoe.

So much for the NIT...

Hey Chevidiot Sports Authority, I guess Gransberry really manhandled Adam H with his 7 points. Nice call you truly are the authority.
