Looking ahead to St. John's

Anthony Mason, Jr., who scored 17 points against UC in the Red Storm's 70-58 win on Jan. 5 in New York, has missed the last two games with an ankle contusion, but he might return in time to face the Bearcats tomorrow.

I just talked to St. John's coach Norm Roberts and asked him about Mason, among other things.

“We hope we can get him back,” Roberts said, “but we’re not going to rush anything with him. It’s been a nagging injury all year. There’s a chance he could play.”

No one will be more fired up to play St. John's than UC point guard Jamual Warren, who got into foul trouble in the first half of that Jan. 5 game and watched from the bench as the Red Storm went on a 19-4 run to end the first half. Warren was so upset about some of the calls that went against him that he was called for a technical foul as he sat on the bench.

“I was frustrated after the game because I thought we could have played harder,” Warren said. “I thought I should have played harder. I thought I could have done some things and I didn’t get a chance to do them because I was on the bench.”

....so almost around the same margin that Cronin beat Huggs...sweet, thanks for the inside info. I'll place my bet now!

I'd be happy to win by that much, but I'm not sure if we have the poise and experience to ride a lead that large. I know we did against WVU but we also lost to Bowling Green. Just saying that amount seems a bit high for this team. I'd place my money on a win by about 10.

I'll take a win, whether by 1, 2, or 25.

I do not think this team is capable of beating anyone by 25 unless SJ shoots like the Mountaineers did. I'll take the Cats giving 8.

I don't think you can compare the first part of the season (Bowling Green) with anything more recent. To much has changed, like Warren not playing back then.

Since UC *SHOULD* win this game, my money is on St. John's.

What kind of absolute pud do you have to be to hang out enough on a blog to be the first poster of every new thread?

I shoot ball good! I no am perfect. Ball do not fall same way down hole as back home in Poland. I blame your Ohio gravity. Is more heavy the ball in my hands. You all fans shut up now!

I'd like to see a complete game. I don't need to see a blow-out, but I'd like to see solid play across the board. In the end though, win by 25 or by 1...Just get the "W"...

5:42 - UC (like many young teams) has shown a tendency to play at the level of their opponent. Good OR bad...This is a must win to keep any kind of NIT hopes cooking...

CSA, it's so nice to see you being extra gentle to avoid upsetting the Mick and Nancy lovers. See, so far, none of them have crawled onto the blog to insult/chastise/rebutt or otherwise refute your comment. Life is SO different on this blog now. - Your Buddy

Come on, guys. Let's all cut Adam H. some slack. After all, he's not a BB player. He's just some tall guy in a BB uniform running up and down the floor. He only throws the ball somewhere near the basket because he sees everyone else doing it and he wants to try it too!

Jon, the time should never occur again when a team like Big Girl State University will be able to beat UC. Last year and this year will hopefully soon be forgotten memories. GO B'CATS!!

Nice double posting slapping yourself on the back again CSA. Piece of work.

Just had a great thought! If I was real tall, say 6'-9" to 7', I could have been on UC this year or last. And it wouldn't have mattered if I could nail the side of a barn. Oh, that's right, Adam H. beat me to the spot on the roster. Shucks!

Good post 6:13 >> "What kind of absolute pud do you have to be to hang out enough on a blog to be the first poster of every new thread?" However, that's already been established.
Question is "What kind of pud do you have to be to RESPOND to a CSA pud?"
Please you all - ignore this CSA LOSER in the name of good blogosphere.

at 9:55 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well maybe. But then what is CSA's Your Buddy going to do?

Pull his pud?

9:58, you're a real class act. Is your IQ as long as your ignorant comment? Don't answer. You've already made it quite obvious.

All of you UK fans from yesterday trying to compare their team with ours......that 11 point first have exhibit tonight against Vandy was "just precious".

at 10:50 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

What will be more important is where UK and UC are two years down the road. Right now, neither are very good teams.

at 10:59 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

I hope UK and UC can start up a series. Just the location of the two schools make sense.

Concering that Warren didn't think the team played hard enough against St. John's last time.

Might be an indictment against Sippin' Mick in regard to the team's performance against some of the less powerful Big East members.

Regarding Bills column. WOW! A game decided by questionable fouls called on one of a visiting teams keys players? That has to be a first in college basketball!

Yeah, no coach in the history of basketball, correction, no coach in the history of ORGANIZED SPORTS has ever had a team play to the level of it's competition. That's why the phrase "play to the level of the competition" didn't exist until this very moment.

This just busts me up! Some of you think Mick is the GREATEST coach who ever lived. Some of you think Mick is the WORST of them all. Here's an idea to ponder. Wait about two years and everyone, both the Mick lovers and Mick haters will know. Except, of course, those who refuse to look if things don't go the way they hoped that they would!

Funny...I don't recall a single post where ANYONE said that Mick was the "GREATEST COACH EVER"...I've seen plenty where folks feel that he's done a great job so far...Nice of you to make things up to support your arguments though...

at 12:09 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Irrelevant. Mick is the head coach. UC BB program is in his hands until there is strong evidence that he can not do the job. The program went through a self-imposed three year death sentence during which time there was no effective recruiting. Now is not the time to cut off the legs of the new head coach. Give him three more years.

Bill, do you expect any word on Mauk today?

at 1:05 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

I expect word on Mauk in about 2-3 weeks and it will not be good news for UC.

1:05, you weren't asked and Bill has a thread that it's today or tomorrow.

I don't know what some of team some of you have been watching this season, but to say UC is "not very good" shows a lack of basketball intelligence, if not just intelligence.

The have beaten several ranked teams. They are in the middle of the pack in arguably one of the best, if not the best, basketball conferences in the NCAA.

They may not be a great team, and they don't have a record that shines right now, but UC is actually a pretty good team, especially considering the circumstances.

at 1:34 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Oops - I showed a lack of intelligence with my first sentence in that last post.

I should have said -

I don't know what team some of you have been watching this season...

at 1:50 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Does anyone know if tonights game will actually be broadcast in HD. Seems like every time UC has been on ESPN this year they didn't feed it in HD. What's the word?

at 1:59 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

1:50 guess i shouldn't have said every time since it hasn't been often.
