UC travel update
After an aborted attempt to reach Storrs, Conn. on Friday night, the University of Cincinnati basketball team was expected to arrive on the University of Connecticut campus late tonight in time to play its regular-season finale vs. No. 13 UConn at 6 p.m. Sunday.
The Bearcats were originally scheduled to leave Cincinnati Friday night on a 7:40 p.m. flight for Hartford.
After that flight was cancelled the Bearcats boarded a bus with the intention of driving to Detroit, from where they would catch a flight to Harford.
But road conditions were so bad as the bus approached I-75 near downtown that UC coach Mick Cronin ordered it to turn around and return to the UC campus.
The Bearcats then scheduled a 7:30 p.m. charter flight to take them to Hartford, where they were to board a bus for the 45-minute drive to Storrs.
The game was originally scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday, was temporarily moved to 8 p.m. Saturday and finally to today’s 6 p.m. starting time.
Meanwhile, Chuck Machock and I have already arrived on a commercial flight. There's no snow here, just a lot of rain. If the team can't arrive, Chuck can play point guard and I'm pretty confident that I can handle Hasheem Thabeet.

Hey Bill, go ahead. Sure would be more fun to watch than the inept Bearcats. You and Chuck would probably give them a better game...LOL
Bill, keep your body on Thabeet when you apply pressure defense. Big men do not like it when they have someone "hanging onto them" and "banging", while disrupting their movements. Adam H can sub if you run into foul trouble.
Do either of you have any eligibility left? :)
Mick is so great the bus driver doesn't listen to him. It would be better if they just forfeited this one anyway. Mick and the Cats have NO chance to win at Hartford, BIll knows that and all of the bearcat nation should as well. Everyone knows that he is a mediocre coach. UC has no future with Mick.
Sippin' Mick Moniker Maker
Sippin Mick Moniker..
Why do you continually come on these blogs, and spout the same stuff, over and over?
It gets pretty old reading how you think they have no future with Cronin, and how awful they are..no matter what the subject of the blog is.
This was just an update on the weather and travel for the game, and you somehow felt the need to give us your assesment of the program. As if we don't already know what you think.
Can't you just find some team you like, and root for them?
Bill, you do realize your board has become the last place in cyber space where the Mick haters are allowed to post their crap at will. I can appreciate that it's a fine line on some of them, but every other board has pretty much cleaned up this trolling. It's killing your board for me at least, although I'm still checking it, but you'd have to admit, those Mick-hating posters are dominating here.
It might be affecting recruiting, and for all we know it's likely just Hugg's old friends or something personal against Mick, or heck, even against Z because they need her to fail. They can post a hundred times here and look like they're the majority, when they clearly are not. It just doesn't seem right, and certainly unfair to Mick and the current kids who are certainly trying very hard to bring back Bearcat basketball.
You have to ask yourself about the Mick-hating posters - to what end do they pound so harshly on them? Critism is one thing, but when every post of yours (good ones, too) is ALWAYS followed by personal digs (The bus driver doesn't listen to Mick. What was that?) it gets very old.
Bill, Can you make a layup?
Can Adam H. write a game story?
Just how bad is UC basketball right now? Think about it for a moment. How many of us REALLY care if they win or lose at UConn today? Oh, we certainly prefer that they win, but it would be an essentially meaningless victory. And it is also highly improbable.
But here's the real measure of where things are. UC basketball is SO bad that even the osu and x trolls have disappeared, and that was something that I never thought would happen. But it does tell us how very irrelevant UC BB has become.
Isn't a forfiet scored as 2-0?
If so it would be better than the beat down we will get.
My opinion on Mick Cronin is that it's far too early to judge him. As I've said here before and repated on the radio this morning with Ken Broo, it amazes me that so many fans apparently thought that this program could be returned to national prominence in two years. There's a reason why he was given a six-year contract and not the standard five. It's not my job to defend Mick Cronin. I don't know if he will get ever get the program back to where it once was, but it seems to me that going from two Big East wins to eight in one year is notable progress. I think it's also notable that there have been no arrests since he took over and that all five of these seniors will graduate on time.
Through the delays and the uncertainty, I'll bet Chuck was in rare form. You've got to have a story or two about that aspect of your travels this weekend.
Bill. Touche'.
I'm OK with those who want to criticize Mick. There is plenty of room for citicism. There has also been progress (albeit not as much as I hoped for).
But, to all these Sippin' Mick guys. Please get some new material. An occasional intelligent and meaningful comment would be nice. Even if it's critical, I don't care. A lot of you guys think you're ripping Mick, when in reality you are just showing how dull you all are.
It's too bad we didn't have Huggs for two or three years in the Big East, just so we could make a fair comparison between the two today. At least he's in the Big East at WVU today, so in a few years we can judge just how great he really would have done here if he had had to make the jump to such a tough conference while at UC.
We already have an idea of what AK could (or ultimately, could not) have done. Now I'm just waiting for Huggs to win that Big East championship in three years. Or just hang in the middle of the pack year in and year out, which is my hunch.
Bill, your best bet with thabeet is to bust him in the knee with your forehead. it probably won't hurt him, but you will never know the difference or anything else for the rest of the game.
No arrests this past season, Bill, because Warren ran away from his car accident. If he stays with his car, it's a DUI arrest.
