Vaughn says he's not tired

After Deonta Vaughn was held to three points last week vs. St. John's, Mick Cronin theorized that Vaughn might be a little tired and could use the breather that was created by the one week between games.

But Vaughn said today he's fine and ready to go all out for these last six games, although he did concede that he might be a bit mentally drained.

“I wasn’t worn down,” he said. “It was just that I didn’t want to force things. I wasn’t getting too many open looks and John was doing such a good job of going inside, why not keep going to John?
John carried us on his back the last two games. I was able to be a distraction with teams keying on me. It gave John some open shots. I still feel good. It’s late in the season, but we’ve still got to keep going hard. Everything’s all good.”

Sounds like Mick’s excuses about him being tired ring hollow at this point.

Perhaps Mick needs to consider he has simply ran the offense through Williamson too much in the last couple games.

I will be interested to see how Mick adjusts the game plan Wednesday night against South Florida.

UC won the last two games. Any "mistakes" Mick made seemed to work out pretty well.

Actually, I'd say Mick's assessment of Vaughn was accurate:

Mentally drained = Tired

You need to be on your game, mentally and physically to play like Vaughn has played most of this season.

Good. He shouldn't have been. They only had one game that week.

If he says that he didn't score because it made more sense to feed an open Williamson, then he gets credit for being smart.

They've got to win this South Florida game and the rest of their home games for a shot at the NIT. If they add one of the away games (not very likely), then they can make a solid case for the NIT.

I believe that the man knows more about his situation than I do.

hey dizzy:

They won the games but the specific question addressed here is about whether Vaughn's tired or not. Appears Vaughn himself says he isn't worn down like Mick said. And I don't think Mick stated it in a way to believe he meant he's mentally worn down.

Also, even though they won the last couple games with some good defense, the offense has performed as poorly if not worse than earlier in the season, which conerns me considering its performance then was one of the weakest PPG efforts in the nation.

I still hold concerns about the team's offense in the future. I'd feel more comfortable if Mick or someone gave me some good reasons to believe next year's offense will be good but no one seems to ask him those questions or anything, so....

This team hasn't run an "offense" since Ed Badger was here. Why the concern now?

What's this?! Borecat fans dreaming of an NIT appearance? Oh, how the high & mighty have fallen!
It's hilarious and pathetic at the same time.

Your Borecats aren't even the best team in Cincinasti anymore, let alone the state of Ohio. There's still time to support the best b-ball team in Ohio. THE Ohio State University is poised to make another NCAA tourney run. Get aboard the bandwagon now before it fills up! Trade your C-paw in for the buckeye!!

Let's play a little game of football trivia.

Who is the only team to be 0-9 all time against the SEC in Bowl games?

If you guessed osu, you are absolutely correct.

Thank you so very much, osu!!!

Sincerely,
The SEC and all their fans
