CBI field
Here's the rest of the CBI field, according to its web site:
March 18
Richmond at Virginia
Houston at Nevada
Brown at Ohio
Rider at Old Dominion
March 19
UC at Bradley, 7 p.m.
Valparaiso at Washington
Miami at Tulsa
Utah at UTEP
Quarterfinals: March 24
Semifinals: March 26
Championship Series (best of three): March 31, April 2, April 4
The winner of the UC-Bradley game on Wednesday will play the winner of Ohio-Brown in the quarterfinals.
When the tournament reaches the semifinals, the teams are re-seeded one through four, with the two higher seeds hosting games.
In the championship series, game one is played at the higher seed, game two at the lower seed, and game three, if necessary, back at the higher seed.
UC's first-round game is on Fox College Sports.
Enjoy! I guess.

Who wouldn't enjoy this? If I were a D-1 group of wannabes, I guess I'd be excited, too. Just think, if they can get past a super tough, sub mid-major team like Bradley, then ll get to play other great teams like Ohio, or even Brown! Wow, what could be more exciting than something like that???
Maybe someone should get CSI on this and investigate if CBI is a real tournament or a hoax. At the very least, it's a farce!
Bill,
Is the game gonna be on Fox sports here in Cincinnati or on 19?
Bill, if we win on Wednesday night does that mean we have a home game on Monday?
Can't we just let it end? The way I read that is UC could (probably not) play 6 more games. Haven't we been through enough this year?
I think it is great for UC. More games and practices which is especially good for the Freshman. Maybe UC can win this thing? Better not lay an egg at Bradley.
By next season the CBI will stand for "Cancelled Basketball Invitational." More post-season basketball is a good thing. I think the NIT is a quality tournament, however, the CBI field is not so great. I think it is good for UC to continue play games (and hopefully win) maybe play some of the freshmen a few more minutes. Does UC deserve to go to post-season, no. (maybe when they were 13-12)Next year UC's goal should be to qualify for one of tournaments run by the NCAA, with real brackets and seeds.
Bill,
I'm glad UC is in the CBI. Anytime you can get more games for your team it's a good thing. While I'm not thrilled at this point with UC's coach or season, that has absolutely nothing to do with what's best for a team. More games are best for the team.
So far as their record is concerned, that doesn't bother me anywhere near as much as 16-20 Coppin State being in the NCAA Big Dance. Coppin St didn't just lose to any halfway decent team that they got in shouting distance of, they lost terribly. They aren't from a weak conference, they are from the 30th ranked out of 32.
Coppin State in the NCAA is a joke, and their pairing against NC in Raleigh is proof of the stupidity of the automatic bid process of that tourney. There is no justification that's good enough to explain CS in the NCAA with so many far, far better teams left out.
So far as the CBI is concerned, I do think it's interesting to get to compare the Big East against these other conferences in the CBI. I will watch it for that reason.
What does CBI really stand for? Counterfeit Basketball Imitation? Why are we going to a pretend tournament to play against pretenders? This is what UC has been reduced to. A super losers tournament of mid-majors. Oh, that's right, that's where we are today. Thanks BOT and Nancy!
I think this is great. I live in Chicago so I'm definitely going to make the trip down to Peoria. Bill, I'll see you there.
I support Mick and my alma mater. Having said that, this tournament is a joke.
What are the positives? The youngsters/next season's returning players get "postseason" experience. Also, every player gets the chance to extend their season by at least one game.
Fine. But the above is still a stretch.
In the end, regardless of what happens, this current team still has the issues it did in the prior 31 games.
Bottom line to me is, there needs to be a line drawn somewhere with a team that has the record they do. That's the problem with a tournament like this. UC now has a group of frosh who see that you can reach the postseason with a subpar record. Given, they're smart enough to realize that this isn't the big dance, but still...is has to be taken into consideration.
If this tournament didn't exist, Mick's post-season comments would be along the line of "We need to break that .500 barrier, we need to become a winning ballclub to join the postseason again, etc etc." Now, he's forced to justify their subpar record. That's what bubble teams who missed out on the field of 65 are supposed to do...not a team like UC.
Bench the seniors and play the Freshman. I"m sick of Cronin crying that next year's team has no experience.... before the next season even starts.
If you miss the CBI, pickup games will start soon at Purcell or the Armory. I don't know about the TV coverage yet.
I'll take Huggins again with all his baggage. At least then we went to real tournaments with real teams and we got WINS!!!
Now we are:
The FEW! The Proud? The UC fans.
My family has done. We have a large driveway with basketball Hoops at each end. Breakaways. And lighting. Tell mick to give me a call after the CBI and i'll hold a double elimination for his team and other local college or pickup teams. Printed T-Shirts will be provided.
They should be embarrassed to accept an invitation to such a farcical event. An absolute laughing stock is what UC basketball has become.
ST CSA
I guess it was too late to get into a good High School tourney?
St CSA
Wow, what a group of "Negative Nancy Zimphers."
If UC runs the table they end the season with a winning record. I guess you were all paying too much attention to Huggs or K-State to realize that.
I admit it has been painful to watch them play as of late. Still, they run the table they with a winning record. Crazier things have happened, like a horrible Georgia team running the table in the SEC over the weekend.
My guess is that the CBI had a hard time finding 16 teams to compete in such a degrading tournament. "This is a disgrace" to the once proud UC basketball program.
This is sad in a way.
I didn't realize that Brown had a team.
The three game championship set up should be cool to see.
NCAA tourney--- Major league
NIT tourney---- Mid Major
CBI tourney---- Minor league
It could be worse...we could be facing a confident Georgia team who roared through the SEC tourney as our first opponent.
Bill, or anyone else with an objective attitude--
How does UC match up against Bradley?
I thought CBI Tournament stood for "College Basketball Inept"... LOL
With 65 teams in the NCAA and 32 in the NIT IF UC wins this they can claim to be the 98th best team in the Country!
"Enjoy, I guess" ???
As the song goes, "Your true colors....."
10:15 You're right. At this point, Georgia would beat us by 30 points!
What a great banner to hang in Fifth Third Arena . . . qualifier CBI, hang it right next to the 2 NCAA champions banners.
Such a proud day to be a UC basketball fan, how quickly the mighty have fallen to unprecedented depths.
There is too much negative talk on the blog. Yes, the CBI is not so good, which really is the organizers fault not UC. I am always happy to watch UC play another game. I like conference tournaments (everybody should qualify), the NIT, and the NCAA tourament. Everybody knows what the real tournament is. Everybody also knows that only a handful of teams have a chance to make the final four and even fewer to win it all. Whether people complain about at-large selections, automatic qualifiers, the NIT, the CBI, expanding the tournament, at the end of the day everybody starts the season with chance to win the championship. Even until last week schools had a chance to win their way in (Georgia did), more college basketball is always a good thing, altought, nobody should be confused about what the ultimate goal should be.
Rather than complain that UC is in the CBI - something no UC fan is happy with (whether you support Mick or not), we should be fortunate that the team and the young guys are going to get a chance to get more EXPERIENCE. I wish the team had a better record and I wish they were preparing for the NCAA, but if the extra games can help guys like Bishop, McClain, Davis, Belton, and Vaughn, I am all for it. Besides, it will give us UC fans who actually see improvement, something to base our opinions on -at the beginning of the year UC had to struggle to compete with mid-majors, if there is real improvement, they should play well and win a few games (maybe going away).
We'll probably never know, but I wonder how many teams turned down invitations to the CBI.
How's this for an ideal "Championship Series". UC versus Washington, three games.
3/31 at Washington, fly back across the country for the 4/2 game at UC, then back on the plane to Washington for the 4/4/ title game. Then back home. That's 4 flights to and from the Pacific Time Zone. Roughly 9.000 air miles in 6 days.
Bill, any ticket information about the CBI game? Will Mike Thomas offer to swing by my house and pick me up for a ride to the game?
the CBI tournament will look great on Mick's resume. He will be able to claim that he took his team to an end of season tournament in only his second year at UC.
Was that the Buckeyes seen not making the NCAA tourney....Think they will fire the coach? Top 10 recruiting class and they cant make the NCAA's. I wonder if OSU fans are bloggin the same crap as the losers on this page. Fire THAD!!!
See how dumb you guys sound.
The Bearcats stand no chance against Bradley on their home floor. Have any of you seen Bradley when they're healthy this year? They can beat anybody.
1021, Bradley is from the MVC which, by Sagarin, is 7th rated while the Big East is 4th.
UC had the 7th toughest schedule in the nation; Bradley the 76th.
Bradley's 17-15 record and 92 rank is better than UC's 13-18 and 113, but the conference ratings and schedule strength have their relative strengths at 77.5 and 75.5.
Bradley hasn't faced nearly the level of play that UC has, so UC should have an edge in facing hostile fire.
On the other hand, Bradley has a scoring threat spread across its top 4 while UC is a 2-man team. All of Bradley's top players are 3 point shooters and free throw shooters.
I'd call it a coin toss. I'm curious if UC's playing in the Big East will negate Bradley's apparent strengths. I really think that taking a lesser Big East team like UC up against a good MVC team will give some idea how much different are the two conferences.
9:38 - If UC runs the table they'd finish even at .500 for the year (18-18. There are only 16 teams in the event, so it would take 3 wins to get to the finals. A weird thing about this tournament, other than that it even exists, is that the finals is a best 2 out of 3. So the winner of the tournament will have to win 5 games. They might go 5-0 or they might go 5-1.
How does UC match up against Bradley?
Bradley has two very good guards in Daniel Ruffin and Jeremy Crouch. The team as a whole can shoot the lights out. Key for UC-defend the 3. Simple. We do that and contain Ruffin well be in good shape.
Are you UC fans pumped up for the inaugural CBI?!?!?!
CBI fever baby. Catch it!!
I am currently a student at the University of Cincinnati, and the way the Bearcats have been looking the past few years, I will take any tournament. A chance to get our freshman class some more experience is an opportunity no coach should turn down. Yeah, it's new and not the best tournament to be invited to, but hey, it's better than some teams can say.
True fans out there- Cheer on the Bearcats to end the season with a bang.
