Clarification - UC would host second round

The information that I received Evan Olesh of the CBI was incorrect. In fact, UC requested only that it not host a first-round game. According to senior associate athletic director Mike Waddell, if the Bearcats beat Bradley on Wednesday, they will host the second-round game at Fifth Third Arena.

What a joke! What time does the bus leave for Peoria?

Just heard Tracy Jones pondering the question: Do you think a Bob Huggins team would ever even consider going to the CBI? He also said that first of all a Bob Huggins team would never be 13-18.

Rewarding a team for losing, this is a disgrace to the great past tradition of UC basketball. The Most Respected Coach Cronin should have respectfully declined the invitation and got on with his recruiting and excuse making for next season.

I disagree. Bob Huggins, for all his faults, was an extreme pragmatist about basketball.

If he saw a chance to get his players some more experience in a couple of extra games, then he'd do it.

So would I. But, I would get a head start on next season with my younger players. These seniors have nothing to prove. They wouldn't get more than 20 minutes playing time each.

We turned down the opportunity to host the game???? That had better be a scheduling issue. That's a pretty brainless move otherwise.

What a bizarre twist to a bizarre season. Another game???!!!!Whodathunkit?? Almost seems pointless, except............

I see this game as an odd bird in an odd tournament, a windfall of sorts for the players who get a nice reward for all the hard work the kids put in. Even though they finished the season on fumes, they did play a tough schedule and hopefully they'll lighten it up next year. Eight Big East teams made the NCAA tourney. That's strong, any way you slice it. It's pretty obvious this team was deficient in terms of talent and experience, and they completely wore out the end of the season. But sometimes die hard fans forget the amount of time and effort they put in, as well as being students and attending class, and I don't begrudge them another game at all. We don't own the team, we don't get to pick and choose who's on the team, they're just student athletes who love to play.

As for Tracy Jones, I could give a flying flip what he thinks about UC basketball, or basketball in general. He should stick to baseball, where he's mildly interesting. That's about it. I find the guy way too cutsey and self aggandizing for my tastes. The main reason Huggs never went 13-18 was all the chump change at the bottom of C-USA. And a lot of bottom feeders early.

I agree with the thought that Mick oughta play his young guys a lot. But also try to win the game. A second game would be fun to watch.

Perhaps, but he went 14-16 with Walsh and 12-14 with Akron, and I'd be willing to wager that neither team had a SOS anywhere close to this team's #11.

Bob Knight on Sports Center picked Pitt to win the NCAA tourney. Pretty cool if that happened.

Coach Cronin needs to tell the seniors thanks, but you'll only play if someone gets hurt our fouls out. Use this tourney to get a jump start on next season

However of a disgrace not making the NCAA or NIT, playing in a post-season game will help this team. The more experience we can give our freshmen before next season the better. Our team was not suppose to be that good this year, and overall we did not have a great year. However, this extra game(s) will do nothing but help our team in the long run.

People, I agree that this is not a special event but winning this would make up for all the games we should not have lost. Winning this will prove we are as bad or better than the record indicates. Atleast we will be able to say that they had a bad start and came around too late this year. Winning this will prove that. I dont see this as a reward for loosing but an opportunity to save face. Otherwise they just sucked and fininshed 13-18. Keep in mind this is big for the conference too. If the 10th place big east team wins it, that speaks volumes about the league depth vs mid-major conferences. Everbody cant get past their frustrations to take this for it is worth. I just dont get it. We can say we won something or just end it now and say we suck. Being a true fan, I know which scenario I hope to roll with. With all the criticism on these boards, I am thinking it is a bunch a Xavier fans making these post! Get over it and support your team. It would sure be nice to see the cats blow every team out of the water. I think that would good for the confidence of the younger guys too. It will make them feel they are better too but had a year.

I think Bradley is a tough match-up for UC. They shoot the 3 very well, and we have to play them on their home court. Mick better have these guys READY to guard the 3 pt line, unlike that DePaul game. Otherwise, I doubt Bradley will have a bad night from behind the arc playing at home.

One of my gripes with the season is that we played terrible in our non-conference schedule against "seemingly" inferior opponents. Was that because of inexperience/no Warren, or was it because we stink? Did we just get lucky against Louisville, WVU, Pitt, Syracuse, and Villanova?

Hopefully, they play good and win this game. I think the team showed a lot of heart despite the poor talent and lack of experience. I'd like to see them win a few games.

bdbdub -

I think it's because Mick's teams have shown a tendency to play down to the competition.

I hope Mick learns how to combat his issues in that regard.

I woke up this morning with a headache, chills, and an upset stomach.
Figuring I might have the flu, I called my doctor. After hearing my symptoms, he said "Flu? Heck no, you've got CBI fever, baby!"
His cure? Make a banner saying "Go Mick" and hop on the bus to Peoria with CSA!
