New rules
I will no longer post comments referring to Mick Cronin as "Sippin' Mick" or any other derogatory nickname. It's fine to criticize his coaching, but he doesn't deserve to be subject to that kind of disrespect. Also, no more comments regarding Nancy Zimpher and what she's done to the basketball program. It's been almost three years. We all get it by now. It serves no purpose to continue to post the same comments over and over again. Try to come up with some new stuff. If it's exhausting for me to read those comments over and over again - and it is - it has to be exhausting for readers of this blog, too.

THANK YOU!
All I can say is THANK YOU VERY MUCH Bill. It was old, tiresome and pointless to read the comments on this blog. Criticism is fair but the same old comments after every UC loss regarding MC, the BOT and Zimpher were old.
And I dont consider this sensorism or anything else other than what needed to be done to make this blog enjoyable for Bearcat fans. I appreciate.
I'm impressed, Bill-- thank you, finally, thank you.
Now, what can be said against the UC vs. Bradley matchup?
Thanks, Bill. Now all of those WVU-Huggins homers are going to have to inject some actual intelligence into this blog instead of talking about Huggins, who is no longer a member of the UC athletics department.
Thanks for cleaning up the Blog. I look forward to some real discussion in here.
Thanks for cleaning up the blog. Hopefully conversation will be more along the lines, how will Mick fill out the recruiting class, the CBI tournament, spring practice, expectations next season for UC football and basketball, or even a topic that has been on other UC boards, UC's greatest traditions.
THANKS BILL!!
LONG OVERDUE!!
Bill,
Thanks for finally putting your foot down on a select few.
Cheers,
Drew
Congratulations Mick, on coaching your team to the inaugural CBI. Best of luck against the likes of Bradley, Brown, Valparaiso, Ohio, and Rider. Go get em Mickster!!!
Add my vote in favor of the decision. It was getting very tiring.
THANK YOU!
I hope people now have something of value to offer to the conversation.
QUESTION
They said the CBI is on Fox College Sports. Does that mean FSN? Fox affiliates? I'm hoping to find out if we can see the Bearcats play on Wednesday on Fox Sports Ohio.
ALSO,
If Cincinnati wins and Ohio wins, does that put the second round game in Athens or Clifton? That's not a bad road trip for UC fans, but won't people be on Spring Break?
ALSO,
Just curious if now that CSTV is CBS College Sports TV if any of the NCAA tournament games will be on that network?
For the first round, with so many games playing at once, would it be possible to see one game on CBS and another on CSTV?
What a sham.
Josh thought the moniker was funny and Bill deletes it. Guess I can't even post on the blogger name by that title.
Mick has done nothing to prove he can coach. Top-15 recruiting class showed NO improvement. Mick used stall-ball tactics which worked for a while until teams adjusted, then he had NO answers. He doesn't seem to know how to run set plays on offense, and the team's "great" defense is a myth.
They gave up an AVERAGE of 75 points in the MAJORITY of their games this year.
And this year's recruiting class would be even worse than last year's at this point.
Yet Bill and some bloggers here seem to want to give Mick a free pass on his in ability to run offense and his team's continued playing down to the opposition's level.
I think the program's toast and until Mick does something ot make me think otherwise, I'm not going to change my mind. Hint: he hasn't come close to changing it yet.
And the fact Bill and other reporters can't seem to ask Mick tough questions about the offense and why the Mitchell situation seemed to coincide with collpasing makes the situation worse.
Heck, Bill, you seemed to brush over the Williamson "thug" act in the Providence game (and that's what it was...just ask the TV announcers) as though it were nothing. Doesn't even look like you or Mick brought it up. It would counter with the program's supposed new "image."
We'll see if you are still enjoying this program in a couple years under Mick's leadership.
Thank you, Bill!!!!!
I don't mind fact based criticism of the program and Mick, but the derogatory name calling and ad hominem attacks had to go. The small core of trolls who posted this over the to negative stuff ruined it for everyone else, and I think gave a slanted view to the casual outsider of what UC fans really think about the program and Cronin.
And it's funny you mention showing Mick "disrespect." He's the same guy who didn't even acknowledge questioning fans' thoughts about Williamson's act in the Providence game. Brushing it off and pretending it didn't happen is the ultimate sign of disrespect to fans who represent the program.
But he wasn't even ASKED about the incident. Amazing.
A million thanks Bill.
It's a great day in the neighborhood for all of the Mick and Nancy lovers. Now all of them are SO happy. Basically now, they'll be the only ones who comment and then it will appear even more so that everyone is happy that Cronin is our coach, and we are not. But it will not change the fact that UC has an average, mid-major coach and below average team.
Sadly though, we ARE still suffering from the effects of the actions taken three years ago. The wounds have not yet healed. Hopefully someday they will be and we'll be a powerhouse again.
By the way, the reason the comments are the "same" is because NOTHING changes about the program. It show little progress even as we head into Mick's third year.
The guy hasn't shown he can recruit or coach on his OWN. Until he does, plenty of fans will think the program's finished.
Just look at 5/3 Arena's attendance to see that.
The acceptance level of mediocrity in this area is unbelievable. It's one of the primary factors in creating such very average teams as the Reds and Bengals. Why should they diligently strive to improve when they are supported while remaining average, at best. Now, we can simply add UC basketball and make it the Cincinnati Mediocre Trio. Sounds like the name of a bad jazz trio when it's the name of a very bad sports trio. I'm a UC fan, have been for decades, and very likely will remain one. But I am NOT happy with the current state of UC basketball (it both saddens and angers me) and I have some serious doubts as to the abilities of the current coach.
If my refusal to accept average or less makes me a bandwagon fan, then so be it.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
"Yet Bill and some bloggers here seem to want to give Mick a free pass on his in ability to run offense and his team's continued playing down to the opposition's level"
What is with these "free pass" comments? Why do you keep saying that? That is simply not true, and especially just because you think it is.
What do you want us to do? Call for him to be fired after just 2 seasons removed from a self-imposed death penalty?
Most normal UC fans are willing to give the guy a chance.
There has been plenty of criticism of Mick and his coaching by people other than yourself on here - and some of them have been from level headed posters.
Bill, may I add a huge THANKYOU?
I stopped reading the blog for a while because of the tiresome, redundant slams that were supposed 'discussion'. We all get it. Enough already. As I've said before if it's still bothering you so tremendously get therapy.
If one wants to criticize it can be done in a civil way. The constant junior-high-name-calling is not being a fan but sticking it to those of us who have gotten over the past and want to give all involved the benefit of time and then evaluation. Not bandwagoning, jus' the facts.
Bill,
Most of the newspapers I read online allow virtually all comments, like the Indy Star. While I don't like people taking too many many liberties with Mick, or his nickname that you have deemed unworthy to post, it is a mistake to censor both the name of the President of UC and and Mick's nickname. Mick's nickname is not negative and the Prez is and always will be open to scrutiny.
If posters want to make themselves look stupid so what? The Enquirer is joining them with this censorship. Posters will still throw verbal bombs at each other. Big Mistake.
Thanx! Usually I oppose censorship, but in this case, it was the right thing to do. Constructive criticism can be very useful, but driving it into the ground, over and over and over, serves no purpose whatsoever.
As a retired UC staffer who endured some pretty poor years under previous coaches (basketball and football), I am happy to see some renewed and energized fan action for a change -- but the constant negativity by a few just had to go.
As far as Zimpher's actions several years ago -- it had to happen! When I told my kids that I supported her actions, they were appalled. But let's not forget, UC IS an EDUCATIONAL institution (I realize that in big-time sports, this aspect is often overlooked!)
Anyway.........it's nice to read about UC sports here, even from 2,000 miles away!
GO BEARCATS!!!

I think the Anon 12:41pm post pretty much speaks for itself. You could feel the hate and venom that guy has for Cronin. The vendetta he has is pretty transparent and just makes him look foolish and petulant. Get over yourself.
BTW, I think Williamson reacted the way he did in the Providence game because the guy punched him in the face/poked him in the eye first. Maybe you had to be there to see it. I doubt this poster has ever set foot in 5/3rd Arena.
I have no problem with a blog owner running his blog in any manner he so desires. I'm a traditional propertarian, and a man's property is his castle.
I thought the Cronin nickname was adolescent trolling. Glad it stopped.
However, if anyone else wants to start their own blog and allow it, that's their right. It might be them and their dog as the only readers, but that's our right.
12:41 the only 'sham' in this whole blog issue is people not being open minded enough to realize that Mick Cronin had nothing to do with this job coming open.
Everyone forgets the criticism BH was getting before he departed for not being able to get UC BB past the second round of the Tournament.
He's gone so now he walked on water.
Was there a better way for him to leave? Yes, in the spring when he was told the circumstances under which he could retain his job. Instead he got his bluff called when he thought it was too late for them to send him packing, by saying in August 'I can't operate under these conditions'. He dared them to do it and they did it. He chose to put himself ahead of his team and program. If he really cared for the program he would have done the honorable thing and stepped away after his DUI, in the spring. Instead they tried to give him one last chance and he decided it was too tough and he had the gall to give them an ultimatum.
They had no choice you can't have the dog wagging the tail.
That's fine, besides he didn't walk away without his pockets full.
As for Mick.
I remember when BH was hired I was disappointed because a guy from Ball State sounded good to me some guy named Majerus. But I gave Huggins a chance. He was very good but had plateaued about 3 years before he finally split.
Lets give Mick a chance and if and when he succeeds, maybe we can get behind an arena that isn't a joke to sit in.
Thanks for the Forum Bill
Thanks Bill.
drshatter -
It's not a vendetta. It's frustration with Mick's coaching.
It's not like I dislike Mick just because he replaced Huggins, because I was a big fan of Kennedy.
I've just been less than impressed with Mick's coaching and recruiting skills thus far. Adding Hopson would give him a big boost, but if he doesn't, I will question him even more.
And yeah, I have been to 5/3. The TV announcers were there at the time and seemed pretty made about Williamson's actions; not the other player's.
